I turned off a feature with my 13 Pro Max called “Prioritize Faster Shooting” and it increased the detail in my photos with the telephoto lens. I noticed the photos would be artificially adjusted and turning this setting off helped.

@@Farah-bq7bm only when I’m close to an object or something is close to the camera lens. Mine switches lenses for Macro when anything is within 6 inches of the lens. Outside of this, I don’t have an issue. I also use an app called ProCam which gives you more control over your cameras and prevents the auto switching macro feature from engaging.
You can set timer on light sensor to few more seconds to get amazing night time shots. Although I guess a tripod needed

It’s a big improvement other than design, if apple redesigned the phone people would be calling this a massive upgrade and everyone would be selling their iPhone 12 for the 13. I think the iPhone 14 will be a generational leap as it’s getting no notch and a redesign with a possible 48mp camera to enable 8k which I do find a little unlikely, what is likely for next year’s will be the have a 4nm chip and that will make the phone a lot more efficient allowing for better battery life and faster speeds.

Thanks for this - I'm on the 11 Pro and was curious just how much better the 13 Pro is. The 13 Pro is certainly better, but this helps me stay content with the 11 Pro. For me, I'm aiming to hold on until maybe the 15 or 16.

@@PupperChino I sold my 11 Pro Max recently. It’s actually left redundant after I got the 13 Pro Max. I decided to get rid of it out of concern it may not fetch the good price I was offered if it stayed with me for one or two more years as Apple comes up with a new flagship every year.
Love your videos. Was going to upgrade my 11PM to the 13PM, but decided to wait for the 14PM. The wait time for the config I want, plus all the camera issues I keep reading about, including some of your own videos, has reminded me what an amazing phone my 11pm still is.

Well done ! That’s a very instructive and very good structured comparison of all photo lenses in all light situations. The inclusion of video comparison is very helpful as well. What I see are small but visible improvements year by year. I will keep my 12ProMax for a few years. A suggestion @Max Tech for your next comparison : maybe you could include also include a comparison of Raw photos. In combination with a Tripod and in a dark situation, there should be some nice improvements to see.
After watching this comparison, I will keep my 11 pro max for another maybe 1 or 2 years. 11 pro max still a beast and still having an amazing camera. The quality of the photo still great and absolutely stunning for 2021.
Yeah, I upgraded from the 11 Pro Max and am seriously thinking of selling my 13 Pro Max and just going back to my 11. The battery life on the 11PM is still great.
Waiting more will decrease your phone's market value, which at the end will lead to more money spent for the new iPhone. This is what people don't understand, if you upgrade every year, you get a new iphone every year for 200€. If you wait for 5 years you need ~1000€ for the new iPhone which are exactly the money spent for five years if you upgrade every year for 200 (200x5 years= 1000€) BUT you have a new phone every year.

I have the 11 pro max & i believe this is more neutral in terms of sharpness and reality specially in portraits. I don't like the too much hdr this year in the 13 also not a fan of taking photos against the sun so not a big reason for me to upgrade for my purpose, which is photography, this year, but for videos yes it is a beast worth upgrading to.

Max is putting everything to the max! Thank you for that review, great comparison. I'm curious can you shoot in RAW in all these modes (of course except photo styles) and if you can share a video showing how much you can push the RAW file. Will be great if you can do Photos vs. Lightroom Mobile vs. Snapseed or something so we can see the full potential of the camera. Also if you can print some the images from RAW and ideally if you can compare it with 12mp DSLR/mirrorless camera.

I use night mode on the "Neural Cam" app for ultra wide on my 11 pro as well as for night video, which looks quite good. Since the majority of what is "New" and is by design by Apple to slowly release computational/software updates to only the newest phones, the differences are becoming really small year over year. Whilst, there are hardware differences, they are certainly not enough to upgrade, and this year's "Cinematic mode" is more gimmick than anything, (Anyone remember "Slofies"?). The feature that they should send to all is pro res, since im rocking a 512gb in midnight green (Best colour still so far), id like to see the bitrate upped for 4k60 video, but as I mentioned previous, im sure a "good" 3rd party app will release as well. Great review, I dont see the reason to upgrade, not to mention the soft rounded edges of the 11 series and smaller 5.8'' size of the phone make it the most comfortable "pro" phone of the series.

All we knows that phones were invented mainly for talking only in the beginning But unfortunately I couldn’t find any pages whose are reviewing phones for talking. Like how good the phone is for longtime talking? Doesn’t it heat up after a while of talking? How about it’s voice quality while talking?? How smooth we can listen. I need to call many people everyday sometimes I talk for 15/20 minutes and iPhones are heated up after 5/7 minutes. So I’m planning to buy other devices but I couldn’t find anyone who’s reviewing phones for talking???

Great review! Thanks! The increased contrast on the 13th series is good for landscapes and architecture, but not so good for portraits. In general, everything is fine, just a little less information in the shadows on the Iphone 13. On the iPhone series 12, the opposite is true) Landscapes are not so contrasting, but this has a positive effect on portraits))
Your comparison is by far the best I have seen, and easy to watch. I was planning to upgrade from 11 pro max but was hesitant after the announcement. Now I guess I will wait to next year. I usually use the main lens for photos and videos in bright environments, and for that the improvement seems minor. Fingers crossed for longer telescope lens next year and I shall get the 1TB by then.

Thanks for this great and very relevant comparison. The cinematic mode is nice to have, but still a Gen 1 implementation. Other differences are, in my opinion, too minor to upgrade from my 11 pro max. Lots of these differences can be adjusted in post. Will stick with my 11 pro max for another 1 or 2 years.

@@gaborsimko3870 I've upgraded to the iPhone 14 Pro Max, but only because I wanted the LiDar sensor and my wife needed another phone so she is using the 11 pro max now. Accu is still whole-day and most pictures during day are very similar. Filming is a lot better.
A lot of the over exposed sky images can be improved by clicking on the overexposed area and letting the camera adjust to compensate before taking the photo
That’ll work for the sky but it’ll just leave us with a darker subject.

he is being very biased, just believing that the 13 is better just cuz its a new phone unless he is seeing a different image from what we are looking at, i'd say most of the day time images between the 13 and the 11 looked almost identical while the 12 tended to blow out the images alot

@@amishrafiq7101 if you have an 11P/PM and are going to the 13P/PM, I found the cameras such a huge upgrade. Not to mention the ridiculous battery life I have. I charge my phone every second day and use it all day and into the evening. If you can afford it, I’d recommend upgrading. I also recommend the Max series for battery life etc.

Thanks for this excellent review. As for me, the 12th one is the outsider in most cases so I was lucky enough to stick with my 11 Pro max. But with 13 Pro I tend to upgrade it since it allows to achieve better shots in most situation while in some (just some) 11 is better. And keep in mind that in coming OS updates the quality can be improved pretty noticeable way while 11th mostly like is going to stay with current level.
The innovation of Apple is limiting the night modes of the ultra wide and selfie cameras for the iphone 11 pro max.
This video has convinced me that keeping my 11 Pro for another year is a very sound choice. The selfie cam on the new phones (in poor light especially) is a bit of a joke!
Exactly my case, it convinced me, how 11 pro is actually the same in terms what are important to me, and showed there’s even a disguised macro mode.
Upgrade are LiDAR, cameras , brightness, 120hz , 6GB of ram , speed , cinematic mode , better battery , MagSafe, the body of the iPhone are now like the iPhone 5, new colors , A15 , 5G , Wi-fi speed ghz

I picked up a used 11 Pro today in great condition for about 380 $. Perfect size, long battery life, oled screen, and great cameras
man, that dynamic range and flare reduction is a big plus for me, I wish they would increase the 12megapixel to 20+
That means nothing without bigger sensor. More tiny pixels would deliver even worse results.
Interesting comparison. I was wondering if buying a new iPhone would get me to ditch my old 10MP DLSR ... and now I don't think so, anymore. Cinematic mode where suddenly the spokes of the steering wheel become blurry even though they're at the same distance from the camera as the driver's face? Or that shot with the plane models where planes in the distance come up sharp when everything around it is blurry? Those look just like in the early days of digital photography when people were recreating bokeh in photoshop who didn't understand how the physics work. Guess, I'll stick to an optical depth of field. ... same with some shots where the 13 Pro had less noise at high zoom and looked like an oil painting to me, just some aggressive noise reduction in on-chip post-processing. But I suppose overall it's fair enough for just taking decent pictures quickly in a wide range of situations. I should just stop falling for marketing claims all the time :P

Actually your understanding of Bokeh physics tells me you should consider this phone. You can adjust the pic until it comes out to your liking. The phone is called “Pro” for a reason.

A lot of people complain that the 13 makes maybe too contrasty photos, but the thing is you can lower the contrast in the actual photo processing with the new photographic styles. I think that he should have mentioned it in the video.

The 12 ProMax doesn’t have night mode on the telephoto (it just crops the main lens - annoyingly without notifying you).

Great vid! A lot of times I don’t see much difference other than maybe brightness or contrast in these comparison videos. The detail in the clouds with sun facing photos is undeniable. I’m on the xr so I might upgrade this year. If I had a 12 I would I’d either downgrade to the 11 or upgrade to the 13. The 12 is the worst of the bunch.
Great video mate. In my humble opinion, ifyou own any of the new iPhones from X upwards. My strong advice is, change your phone once every 3-4 years. There wasn't any real change that would worth that price difference.

The iPhone 13 Pro Max was a big upgrade for me, coming from an 11Pro. I'm having a ball with the macro lens capability. Thank you for pointing out the differences in all three cameras' lenses! As an amateur photographer for over 40 years, I certainly appreciate the 13 Pro's camera capabilities!

One big difference between the iPhone 12 / iPhone 13 Pro‘s the 11 Pro is the ability to capture video and photos in HDR / Dolby Vision.
Honestly I think Apple overcompensated for the extreme dehazing on the 12 Pro Max, and added way too much contrast on the 13 Pro Max. In night photos they have a habit of crushing shadows to complete blacks.
Nice test - very engaging But why compare pics right out of the phone to heavily processed pics out of the camera? If they are both raw images, use post processing on both or neither 😁

Same here, I still take excellent pictures with iPhone11 pro max
Honestly, I’d rather have my 12 pro max over the 13. Did side by side with the cameras and the 13 seemed worse in multiple aspects, especially zooming in it pixelated much worse with up close objects / macro type images

This review convinced me to get the iphone 12 max instead of waiting for the 13 to be in stock. I am probably one of the few who likes lens flare in pics. Not a fan of the exaggerated detail on the portraits in the 13 photos. The 13 is much better at balancing scenes with bright lighting in the background, however I take more photos at night and I really like the details in the shadows you get with the 12. Thanks for the review and for saving me a few bucks.
I like the lens flares of the 12 too. I also don't like too much contrast, that's why the 12 pics look more natural to me than 11 & 13
