- Three lionesses defend their cubs from two of the Ndhzenga males.
- Elephants swim in the Sand River.
From MalaMala Game Reserve to wherever you are in the world, we'll bring you moments from our daily safaris in one of Africa's most iconic private game reserves. This is essentially a continuation of our 'Rangers in Isolation' series which was filmed during the national Lockdown.
Damn, those lionesses meant business! The first male was like "Oh shit!".😳

I can imagine how the Elephants' love the feeling and weightlessness of the water. With the heat, dust, biting insects... it must be a great relief 🙂
The 3 oldest BBoys's daughters are agressives like her fathers😻😻😻
How many daughters do they have in total in that pride? I am assuming they are all sisters to the Nakuhuma male lion and cousins from the time he was growing up?

The lion footage is from a couple weeks ago. The main NK pride ended up having 3 cubs split from it where the main lionesses are with 4 cubs. The other 3 cubs met up with the NK sub adults under the watchful leadership of Chela.

We've seen the lion fight defense...hope the cubs, youngsters mamas were safe. Not sure if this was Mohawks pride- he surely needs help !🦁 I feel sooo glad for these beautiful elephants 🐘 who seem to be at such peace n joyful in the water. May they alll be protected. 💥💯 thanks👍🏾

Those lioness were not going down without a fight to protect their cubs. Those ellies were really enjoying themselves in the river.

Nkuhuma Power Girls. It's just that he was with his brother, the Nkuhuma girls would have done damage to this male Chela found the cubs after a few days, and took them to the north zone.
Thanks a lot Reinon for the update. I was wondering what happened to the cubs after that skirmish because the invaders were too close for comfort.

This is off topic but the big news is Nhenha the last Birmingham/ Gowrie male lion is alive after a fight with the Plains Camp coalition. Nhenha does have some injuries.
Yep, he will probably be crippled for the remainder of his life, IF he continues to heal from it. Too bad Nkuhuma is so scared of the PCs, and for good reason. Remember what they did to him in Oct/Nov of 2021? Probably them, not Manghenis.

@@zone_Magazine_reporter Not far from where the Nkuhuma male lion was photographed after the incident. Some more news the Plains Camp coalition just attacked Skorro Jr. Not sure if Skorro Jr. was caught or was able to escape. Nhenha has some fairly significant injuries. The injuries are not on the back. The left leg and the back of the neck is where the injuries are visible from the photo but is able to stand.

A female may be weaker than a male but a protective mother can be extremely violent.
I hope all of the cubs are ok! I don't think Mohawk can defend the pride against them now that he's all alone. It would be safer for them to move back north since we haven't heard anything from the young Black Dam males in a while.
Black Dam males exactly. Problem is that Mohawk and the Nkuhumas might encounter more up-and-coming "trouble" if they go north. Lots of young males, and only 1 Mohawk.

Right now the Black Dams have probably not decided whether to stay or go. You know there are 4 more Black Dams up north, those 6 young Birmingham males, and various other males. The Talamatis are farther south right now, and not an immediate threat to the Nkuhuma cubs and Mohawk. The S8 male has not decided yet--though he might--whether or not to attack Mohawk. S8 should know by now that Mohawk has 4 sons/nephews in the vicinity who might defend Mohawk.
@@private4918 Oh yea, I wasn't talking about that far north. Just up in the northern part of his territory. But apparently the 2 Black Dam males are still there and roaring in the area, so even that area isn't safe right now. With all these young, large coalitions possibly entering Sabi sands from the north, south, and east around the same time is going to cause some major fireworks, both for the incumbents and vs each other.
S8 is in equal trouble if not bigger trouble than Mohwak b/c he has smaller kids. Really hope DMs get attracted elsewhere for a little while

I hope their river doesn't dry up forever like some other African river systems. Once a teeming ecosystem filled with hippos and crocs, now just dry riverbeds. Unstoppable use of fresh water for agriculture and its not just in Africa..
That first male lion was in big trouble until his brother arrived...

Ndzenga males are 4 strong . These males trying to take over this pride now. Mohawk can't defend against 4 males. These lionesses a fighting for the lives of their cubs. I can only hope the other 2 aren't attacking Mohawk as this goes down.please keep us informed.
They usually kill the male or drive him off , then they go for the cubs.....not good
Yep, time will tell. Mohawk has his 4 sons/nephews to help him, but that's not guaranteed, and he could be caught apart from them one day, by the Ndzengas, or Black Dams, or whoever.

You assume correctly. It could have been a bad scenario if the males got to the cubs, but as you can see their moms were not about to let that happen. Well, not without a fight anyway.

A male Lion will kill the cubs to mate with the lioness to populate his own cubs. That’s why the lioness’ were defending their cubs.

About the lions: not new. Otherwise great elephant viewing. Does anybody know for if all 7 cubs are still alive, reunited?
@Adora BelleYour comment is appreciated, but .... Enjoying "scenery" in nature is one thing, but you have to know about when/new/old if you want to be able to understand what the lions are doing and WHO/WHICH ones are doing what. That's the point I made. People get confused and get into unpleasant discussions over the animals--lions--when it's not clear when something happened and who did it, where this or that lion actually was. There's a difference between recording and posting dates, and stuff is also reposted, including in different places. I don't like having people fight with me when they are wrong about something maybe because they don't know/understand whether or not something is "new."

The cubs are safe but split up. 4 are with the 3 mothers and 3 are with aunt Chela and the subadults. They have been seperated for weeks but might have reunited now.
They are all 7 seen alive. What is your source they are dead?
