Australia really need to take action on his advice. I was thinking the same way as Yanis (but not so eloquently ... so I don't want to insult the bloke). But his advice to Australia is spot on. We are in the Asian region of the World. The only country that has bailed us out in the past, has been China (with the 2008 Global economic crisis, Australia was spared the disaster ... because ... China helped us out by buying, and paying, 10 years of Coal supply to us ... which shielded us Aussie citizens). Yanis English is very good, considering he was born in Greece.

    • @@dranzacspartan8002 if you also watch on you tube another brilliant Aussie the late great John Pilger, on his documentary the coming war on China, it shows how the USA has surrounded China with its army bases , situated in USA friendly countries like Singapore, Australia etc, so who actually is provoking a war? It certainly not China which has no bases near the USA shoreline! The Ukraine war is also a US proxy war Maa they openly decided to ignore the Minks agreement, to enable them to arm Ukraine so it can fight the Russians! It’s all too dirty this need for USA to feed its military industrial complex with ongoing wars while we all suffer austerity as our puppet leaders follow the USA, and thus no money left for our own citizens as it goes to bolster wars which the US creates.

We have the Southern Cross hovering over our heads, 24/7. You see, all the smart ones left their Motherlands and migrated to Australia. We're just having a coldie, snags on the Barbie, surfing, and taking care of our beautiful sheila's (prettiest in the world). When the Northern Hemisphereans blow each other up, we Aussies will venture back to our Motherlands and reintroduce our Cultures ... BUT ... with Aussie values. His global experience, economic analysis and fearless advice and advocacy are a rare combination. To hear an address that not only questions the status quo but also points to its detrimental impact on the nation makes his address worthy of further debate. Australian shibboleths are squarely and rightly in his cross-hairs. Take the astute holes and houses reference for example. What resonates with me in listening to this address throughout is: As our economies embrace cloud capitalism, whose interests are we serving? Who is benefiting from the New Cold War? What can and should we learn from China? How should Australian sovereignty be preserved? And ultimately, do our leaders have the right courageous vision to deliver for all Australians?

Unless you bring in nuclear power Aust will be sliding into a backwater. Where its heading now, nuclear power is a not even on the horizon as it takes years to build plants. Relying on service industries renewables not the way to go for Aust when it has abundance of coal, and gas off the WA coast. Unfortunately our politicians here in australia lack all these qualities and that is why we never hear these ideas from our local representatives. A leader is someone who brings ideas to solve our problems, a agent is someone who brings no ideas, only a directives. Unfortunately we here in australia have no leaders, only agents who do the biddings of their masters.

Sons and daughters of Greek industrialists like Mr Varoufakis and his wife have the the privilege of levering the humble Greeks’ legacy with his obvious intellect, but to only steer Hellenism towards a airy fairy moral relevatism just like Kissinger wanted.

  • Have always respected and enjoyed Yanis' speeches for their intelligent and intellectual contents. Alas, for all his wisdom and political experiences though, his knowledge of China has proven to be somewhat deficient. As a Chinese born in Hong Kong who have spent fifteen years living in the Western world and currently residing in Hong Kong, I can honestly say that while China still has a lot of room to improve on both the social and political front, it is nothing like what Yanis (or his friends) has described it to be. I would suggest that Yanis (this applies to all foreigners too) spend more time visiting China and seeing China for himself instead of relying on third party recounts which could be distorted/subjective despite the best of intentions.
