I hope my finding is useful this one looks about right
The world would have unlimited energy if we could hook generators and batteries to Scotty’s hands in these videos. Haha. He’s the best. 💪👍
Imagine how happy his wife is.
i had not thought about that ----- you are clever -----burn one for me ---- keep up the good work
As an aircraft mechanic, borescoping has really taken off in about the last 5 years for troubleshooting cylinders. We like the vividia ablescopes. They’re cheap enough to replace if you tear one up but good enough quality to see valves and crosshatch
I like it better when Scotty uses video subject lines that aren't as dramatic as the last two. "I'm dying" and this? There's no need for the drama, as the content is so valuable.
Your honesty as a mechanic seems to be a "lost virtue" these days. Keep up the good work + God Bless You !
Professor Scotty, the man, the mystique, the legend.
A replacement for Scotty's discontinued boroscope is the AUTOOL SVB305, same type of flex head boroscope with same features, is available at many online stores.
Scotty you are a genius auto mechanic.
It's amazing how much information I've gotten out of Scotty over the years and it hasn't cost me a penny. In fact, it's actually saved me money. This guy is a hero in my eyes.
@@ThomasKing19933 I agree.
Some of these newer engines that use low tension piston rings are consuming loads of oil. The problem is ppl are being told they can go 10 thousand miles or more between oil changes, and the oil ring gets gunked-up and freezes in place allowing the oil to blow by. The answer to this is to use a quality oil, and change your oil every 5 thousand miles.
Got one myself, love it. Scotty is again right.
These scopes are phenomenal, and " they look cool too!" Scotty is the BEST!
Scotty if that is the 1zz-fe motor, there was a TSB on those engines. What happened is Toyota mis-engineered the piston. What can be done is you order the new pistons and oil control ring or you pull the pistons drill one or two more holes in the pistons, or maybe open up the existing holes and then modify the oil control ring with more of a gap to allow more oil flow. The restriction of oil ended up excessively building up carbon and causing the oil control rings to seize and then the oil couldn't regulate the temps and, hence, the oil burn. Supposedly, Mobil One Full sythetic works best, I have ran Castrol Edge full synthetic for over 10 years and it's a amazing oil that's doesn't shear and handle the heats great but doesn't suspend and clean carbon like Mobil One does. I've owned my Corolla for almost 13 years. When I switched to Mobil One from Castrol Edge because I couldn't get it, I did end up having a leak near my chain tensioner. Mobil One full synthetic also demonstrated it's cleaning ability immediately vs Castrol Edge full synthetic. I would recommend to anyone who has the tools, time, and the ability to fix the piston and ring problem or just run Mobil One Full synthetic and possibly every once in a while run Marvel MMO in the last fews miles of a oil change! 👍
Scotty really makes understanding technical mechanical issues so Fun 😂👏💯
This Scotty video is even better than usual!!
Love your videos, you and I have something in common. Working on cars especially my own! And I also have a ZZR. Love that bike, comfortable and fast enough! Question? I have a 2013 Toyota Rav4, Where's the best place to get Timing chain kits? Keep up the good work.
Thank you Scotty Kilmer.
Interesting that Scotty still has a " stupid beauty cover" on his own car
Yep, Scotty's place in Rhode island and Scotty's place in Tennessee there are two big piles of "stupid beauty covers" that no one wants.
@@gazzafloss Having the "beauty" covers on ups the value at selling time. The average schmuck thinks they make the engine look more modern. If you take yours off, save it for when you sell.
@@boyracer3477 lucky for me my 25 year old Mazda Miata MX5 doesn't have, never did have any sort of "stupid beauty cover", just a plain old engine. Scotty would love it. 😂
Some of them do serve a purpose, so make sure you check before chucking your stupid beauty cover lol.
@@gazzafloss Pretty engine it is also.
i remember my brother was into chevy camaros back in the 70s n 80s and a common prob they had with oil gettin in the comb. chamber was the oil seals on the valve stems a tedious job not particularly hard but it fixed it or greatly improved most of the time
Thanks for the video. Very informative. Just wondering though, how are you managing to keep your garage so clutter free compared to your last one?
Scotty likes that articulated one 😂
Love your videos bro, the camera dapstick idk probably spelt wrong but they most likely sent you the newest model yet to be released for promotional reasons, hell you deserve it check their shop in a few months.
Another great video, Scotty...
I think Scotty likes the borescopes. I will watch the video again to make sure
Absolutely great video scotty keep up the good work
I have a depstech USB C camera I use with my phone, it's really great
We love Scotty!!
Borescope indicates 48 deg C in the air and scotty wearing denim jacket. Hmmm, either borescope needs cal or scotty is broken.
great video
That would be great too see your blend doors in the dashboard

Scotty: "plus my weird nephew REALLY seems to be getting into auto repair now!"
I get great photos of PreTurds.
so one of these cameras can fix the oil burn.... Thank you.....!
At least you can fix an internal combustion engine. When the battery goes out on a EV, you're screwed.
I hear ya. But the powers that be don’t want the lower class and middle class to have their own means of transportation. In the future the 1% will probably be the only ones with their own cars.
The worst part is, there is very little you can fix on a BEV at home.
@@BigEightiesNewWaveTotally agree.
@@nickz6143What's stopping you from owning a car?
Have you kept track of the cost to rebuild or replace a modern engine? A $3000 new Leaf battery is Half that.

Scotty. Is that a Yamaha FJR in the background? If so, what can you tell me about it? Been thinking about getting one. Thanks!
Scotty is the Man! The absolute best G.O.A.T! Thanks.
In this High-Tech world, the BEST tools are predominately Low Tech. Speaking from experience. CHEERS!
That marked cyl was from being possibly overheated, the piston expands more than it would under normal temps and grabs the cyl.
Answer: The Old AT-205 Reseal Formula before they changed it a couple of years ago. The new stuff doesn't work as good and they charge you Double for it as well.
No wonder! I used to have good luck with that stuff.
Agreed. The change was not for the better... including when it went from $10 to now $20.

Maybe he can find your lost TV remote you sat on.
My life will never be the same after watching this either.
I have a liftime powertrain warranty on my 09 ram with hemi. Recently noticed massive oil consumption, about 1 qt every 1,000 miles. It holds 7 qts. Took it to the dealer, they did an oil consumption test and confirmed that i was in fact burning about 1qt every 1,000 miles. Thats when they busted out a tech bulletin from chrysler saying that its acceptable/“normal” for any engine over 50,000 miles to burn up to 1qt every 750 miles. So they wouldnt do anything. And my first thought was “my oil changes are every 3,000 miles so its “normal” to burn 4 qts of oil? Thats over half!!” And thinking of the 2013+ rams, their interval in 6,000 miles for oil changes so chrysler is saying it would be normal for them to burn 8 qts of oil, which is all of the oil and then some. I mean, seriously?!? They are out of their minds.
I got a question? What if the piston rings works perfectly, and what about the valve stem seals is that matter too?
I would lovevthis guy as my neigbor
Hi Scotty, I live in the Houston Texas area. Where would u recommend that i take my 2015 Chevy Cruze to get tested for oil burning? I know the big/well known shops just do too much and charge an arm and leg just to try to tell you what’s wrong. If they can even guess.
If your car burns oil you need a bore scope to confirm the bores are scuffed.A good pcv system will reduce any visible smoke.
Hey Scotty here a question for you my 2014 hyundai Elantra Gt is slow to shift gears but it does shift I don't have grinding gears or slippage or and buring smell and I don't hear bangs from under my car. My car accelerates great and runs awsome for being almost 10 years old. What do you think it could be. Hyundai dealership here says its my transmission and I need a new one but it won't be new they will sell me a refurbished transmission. I think it's just a little think that needs replacing. They said they test drove my car but they really didn't. Anyways do you have any ideas what it could be. My dad isn't shooting any codes and ne check engine light. Thanks so much Scotty.
If you want to fix it you can look into the engine restore with the copper lead and silver that seals a lot of the grooves and the cylinder wall and the trick in 2-stroke small engines and if you like in your car put some inside the cylinder with a syringe and the spark plugs out and run it up and down to coat it and it works really fast then just never put in something like a 7.3 l Diesel with a high pressure oil pump you will screw your injectors and everything else but that is an unusual case
Scotty, how is a judge supposed to distinguish between the cross-hatching of a bore-honing and cylinder damage ?> Please tell me that !
My 02 trailblazer has 233k doesnt burn a drop of oil its my 1st gm car/truck and i was surprised
I could have sworn the first time I read this it said “My Wife will never be the same after this” 🤣
"The Gee in Geespotechnik stands for Gebrauchtwagen.... probably!"
Scotty, out of curiosity, please tell us how you feel about the articulated camera scopes?
A cylinder leakage test on automobiles engines is a lot better it has to be done on aircraft engines annual inspections or use to be?
You're the best, Scotty..!!! pls keep it coming!
This is awesome but where’s the free part? 😂
HI, I HAVE A 2005 TOYOTA HIGHLANDER SOMEONE JUST TOLD ME THERE IS OIL ON THE ENGINE ( I SAW IT) AND IT PROB MEANS I NEED HEAD GASKETS BUT IT RUNS GREAT, IS THIS AN ISSUE OR NOT FOR THE VEHICLE. THANK YOU FOR ANY OF YOUR YOUR HELP ANGELA
As an aircraft mechanic, I can say: Our digital flexible boroscope costs at least €150.000. It is very necessary for the GEn-X engine.
"I really love this flexible probe!" "so does my nephew for some weird reason!"
Them STIK'N SWINES!
6:46 he likes Benny hill,lol,
Leak-down test is best. Leak-down test tells you per cylinder, where the leak is. Intake valves/exhaust valves/cylinder head/rings. Leak-down is by far the most accurate.
Leak down works with women too.🙃
Yes, it drips out.@@antefizulic6851
i love you man
Shouldnt you vaccum the spark plug area before you take it out to make sure dirt doesn't get into the head?
Yes but he's the type that makes fun of engineers.
It seems always the older technology is preferred by Scotty and many people. Just like the manual transmission.
Because we prefer the ability to physically look at a problem. Okay. This is bent, broken.. With microprocessor controlled things. Even inappropriate voltage for a moment can cause you a world of trouble.
Lol automatic transmissions are old technology at this point lol
Also hes not too technilogically inclinded but makes fun of engineers for making cars the way they do.
Scotty, can you give us a cut rate colonoscopy?
Sir engine oil on dipstick for my diesel car smells burnt, no smoke from exhaust, oil changed recently 15 days back, no unusual mechanical noise observed. Is it normal for engine oil in diesel to smell like this, as underside of pistons is cooled by oil jet , ? ?
What does this video have to do with the subject line?
I am setting up a brand new HO scale train set all around the house. I'm bored. 😃 Bore scope looks like a worm with a light on the end.
Those scopes are great.. the Scotty here is sweet.. you can check brakes , sometimes trying to find a leak.. and if the piston is all the way to the bottom of the cylinder you do get a see the whole cylinder walls.. good stuff.
Hi Scotty, I have a 2007 Ford mustang V6 ... I ordered a PVC valve it was the wrong one. 1500.00 dollars later my car is back on the road. I went to defrost my windows and immediately the car overheated? Fans work. Can you help me out here?
I got a bore scope that I use for my rifles, never thought about using it on my car. Was a gift for Christmas that plugs into my phone and it seems to work well. Looks like Imma have to make an upgrade, especially one that articulates.
The Florida pool pump motor repair guy 32750 approved ! that was good info Scotty Kilmer
48c and you`re wearing a button shirt and a jean jacket??,,I`d be half naked sweating like crazy!
As usual Scotty knows what he is talking about! Worked on aircraft engines and we used borescopes ALL THE TIME. In fact, engines have borescope access ports as part of their design. I'm sure airframes do as well. Found out borescopes were affordable a couple of years ago and bought one. It is indispensable for inspecting areas on your car that you cannot access without removing quite a few parts. It has helped me eliminate potential problem sources and locate the actual problem. I've also used it to inspect many items around the house (gas furnace, sump pump, interior of walls, etc). I also agree with Scotty in that I wish it had the bendable "finger" tip.
5:38 Scotty’s RI garage is starting to get that “Houston” look.

🤔 Hey Scotty, you left out a possible self-administered colonscopy 😳🤣😂
Hey Scotty I have a 04 mercury marauder can you do a vid on that ??
Heyo! I have an 03 silver! Where are you located...I'm in NC.
It saying engine oil pressure low what to do?
Sad that us customers have to check our own cars to keep mechanics honest. I guess thats the world we live in.
Hi uncle Scotty, I have a question. Does a vehicle burning too much oil have anything to do with loss of mpg's(bad gas mileage)? TIA
I'm not uncle Scotty but, Yeah if the piston rings are worn you can lose mpg, power and burn oil. But you can also burn oil not lose mpg or power.
What vehicle and how many miles?
Great for do-it-yourself colonoscopies, too.
The goat 🐐!
Where are you located?
I need one for my guitar and dobro work. I’m with you Scotty. The articulating one. Send the link. Thanks Scotty.
Ooooooooh, that'd be really nice for guitars. Well acoustic
No need to go to the doctor for a colonoscopy
Give the neighbors a discount 😂
Can you use that thing for a do it yourself colonoscopy?
Yes just use lube first unless you live on the wild side
Hey Scotty, wanted to ask a question. "I have a 2017 camaro v6, and have started doing Full synthetic oil changes, in your opinion what would you reccommend the mileage to change it every 3k, 5k what?" Thanks Scotty!!!!
I have a 2016 camaro 2.0 trubo and I do oil change every 3k to 4k miles
With synthetic oil the recommended interval is 5-10k miles
What year is this toyota
If their is any smoke visible from the exhaust pipe and a cop see's it you will get a very large fine.
Chicks dig Scotty because he can "stick it in and wiggle it all over the place" !
I like your flexible borescope Skotty. They don't sell them anymore. Maybe all of the amateur proctologists out there were doing DIY colonoscopies!? I would try it.....
I’ll sell you mine 500$
Scotty- So buying a bore scope will fix my oil-burning engine? How am I supposed to re-install the spark plug...when I leave the bore scope in the cylinder to remedy the oil burning?😅
HELP. Hi Scotty I really enjoyed the knowledge and awareness you push with regards to car repairs etc. I would also like you help in addressing an issue that I am currently experiencing with my Mazda 3 (2006) Axela. So let me share the issue I was driving and the engine check light came on. I got it scanned and I was informed that the knock sensor needs to be replaced. The sensor was replaced however after this process the car start idle rough ,vibrating and the brakes was not working as it should. Also what I should have mentioned earlier a strange heat was coming from the back seat and the floor panel was hot. I decided to start the car and peek underneath only to see the catalytic converter glowing red. I have to take the car to another mechanic now to address the catalytic converter issue but what I can't understand why is the car idle rough and vibrating when it stops or in park.
Internal combustion engines, require unhindered air flow into and out of engine. If catalytic converter is plugged, broken...air flow is reduced going out, so less going into engine, so engine does not operate correctly. Scotty has videos on this, and can be checked by measuring the pressure going into and out of catalytic converter, as engine operates. Usually, this is measured by removing sensors, before & after converter, one at the time and using a pressure gauge installed into the hole where the sensor was...Not a mechanic, but hope this helps.
Scotty bought the articulating borescope and went in his garage and wasn't seen for 3 days.
Scotty you always have the same list of tools in the description, but like this video, none of the tools you mentioned are listed. It would be great if you could list the tools used
Common sense is on the list.
