  • Here’s a fix that off-roaders should pay particular attention to... We hit a sharp rock once and punched a hole in the oil pan. The hole was about and inch in diameter. After pulling the pan off to inspect the damage, noticed a package of Marine-Tex sitting on the shelf above the work bench. Picked it up and saw the statement that it can be used to patch a hole in most anything. Followed the directions and used it to fill the hole in the oil pan. Let it harden good and solid for a day and reinstalled the pan. Filled the crank case and Shazam, it held! The car continued that way for several years without leaking a single drop. Amazing stuff!

  • Hi Scotty, Just have to bring something up on what I heard you say more than once on your channel. "The plastic decorative cover on the top of engines are junk and useless." I agree. Here's why. Hot air and heat rises. My thought is that these covers help keep heat and hot air confined and close to the engine assembly, in turn hampering the cooling of the engine assembly. Here in Wisconsin, I take my engine covers off during the summer and put them back on during the winter. In the summer, I want as mush air flow around my engine as possible. Removing these silly unvented and unlouvered covers is one way of doing that. P.S. Nice sign above your garage door.

  • I was lucky to have a father that was an master mechanic. Not only did he teach me tips and tricks I inherited his mindset as well..I do all my own repairs except things like alignments and tires which I don't have the equipment to do. Saves a ton of cash. The aluminum seal powder is used in new cars or at least it was. Everytime I do a flush and fill I use that stuff. I also wash the engine at the car wash 2 or 3 times a year to keep everything clean. This keeps the hoses from being attacked by dirt and grime. Have 240,000 miles on my car and I changed only the lower hose only because I needed to take it off to do a flush and fill and it was 12 years old. Also use the spring clips. They shrink and expand with the hose instead of cutting into the hose.

  • I’ve been ripped off by mechanics so much it’s pitiful. Even the dealership, it’s sad. I want to learn to work on my car & truck… Love this channel a lot!

    • To work on your own vehicles, you'll need some basics: 3-ton jack, good jackstands, rubber wheel chucks, 3/8" and 1/2" ratchets and sockets, hand wrenches, crescent wrench, breaker bar, torque wrench (maybe), Torx bits, spark plug socket, serpentine belt tool, C-clamp for brake job, blue loctite, WD-40, brake parts cleaner, all purpose grease, silicone grease, etc... Not too much, but buying it all at once it might seem a lot. For me, replacing brake pads is the easiest job with the biggest cost savings. KZhead has many, many videos to show the way on a variety of repairs. And you can take a leap of faith on some things: I once tore my starter apart and cleaned and lubed it and put it back together and it lasted another 2 years. Note: I don't have a lift, and working on your car laying on your back on your garage floor is next-level uncomfortable. But you WILL save money that an unscrupulous mechanic would otherwise get, and you get the satisfaction of learning and doing it yourself.

    • The dealership/stealership will always rip you off, always. Buy yourself a good craftsman tool kit for a few hundred dollars and you'll be able to fix pretty much anything. If you need to, take pictures as you are taking things apart and you can always refer to them in the opposite order to put things back together, at least until you get the hang of it.

  • For the sceptics, I can vouch for the AT-205 Re-Sealer. My '02 Ford Ranger had a rear main oil seal leak, literally a puddle of oil under the truck every time I drove it. I was keeping an oil pan under it at all times. Saw AT-205 on here and other testing vids, got some at Advanced Auto and within 2 short drives it stopped leaking completely, not a drop. I was looking at 6 hours labor (~$130/hr) at a minimum to pay a shop to put new seals in. Time will tell how long it stops the leak for though.
