  • The story was: Dad and I ran our old 20’ Seacraft over to West End with some friends back around 1985. While we were there a major storm set in and Dad had to get back home to work. So, Dad and I took a taxi from West End to the Grand Bahama airport to fly home. On the taxi ride, we encountered a big dude with a large Bowie knife. Our taxi driver stopped and picked up the big guy with the big knife. Now the three of us are sitting next to each other in the back seat of a 1970s Lincoln Towncar; big guy, me, then Dad. Both Dad and I were very concerned. Big guy pulls out the big Bowie knife and starts cleaning his fingernails. Dad and I (without saying a word) exchange a couple quick glances, and we both thought things might not end well. Fortunately, the taxi driver safely delivered us to the airport, and we flew home later that day. Our friends (I think David Wakefield) ran our boat home later that week when the ocean finally laid down.

  • I ate more conch than I care to admit while in the Bahamas. I stayed with a native family in their guest house. They made A LOT of money off the queens as they are the pretty ones used for jewelry. They were hung in the sun until the conch voluntarily left it’s shell in order to preserve it for sale. The males, one whack with a machete in the right spot and it’s out of the shell. Needless to say the family loved that I loved conch as I gave them each female to sell. At the end of the week. They only charged my family of 4 500$ for our entire stay. Sadly I just looked them up, and they sold all their land to a resort company, and construction is almost finished. Easily the most wonderful Caribbean experience I’ve ever had.

He had Scarlett fever when he was 4 and came to live with me and he’s now fixing to be 62. Is that awesome or what guys! I wouldn’t change it for the world. Him and I have learned to love the things that we have and not the things that we want and I wouldn’t trade it for the world!! Thank the lord for the blessing me that we have been given and the family to share them with. Love you guys and thank you for being a clean channel. No cursing or at least it a lot and just being a family type channel. You guys are getting bigger and bigger every time I turn your channel on. I love that you guys can do this now full time and I love that your channel as well as Kelly’s and the. Keywest Waterman you guys all know each other. You have all found ways to repeat the things on the wives channels to become successful as well which affords you guys the advertisements and another way to make money. That’s all great!! I’m very happy for you guys. But I see that it becomes work and a lot of it with editing and all that goes with it. Maintaining equipment and just all that goes with it. I’m sure there will be people that you hire very soon to help with these things which will free you guys up to do more of the things that we all love. Can’t wait for that and please keep things rolling you guys. Looking forward to you all getting together and doing one video with you all in it. That would be awesome and I forgot about paddling Madeline as well and dear meat for dinner. Talk to you guys soon!!

  • Hello Gabe and Kelly.. I just found your video by accident and loved every bit of it. My husband and I are here glued to the screen watching the beautiful scenery and the process of catching barracuda and conch. I love the shells I can’t believe all those shells are piled up in the Bahamas and nobody is taking access to them. Well we both live primarily in Florida, but enjoying the mountain environment in MT right now. It’s very difficult to even get the conch shells now. And I love shells, any kind of shells. But looking at this makes me wanna go over there and get the shells. 😄 I never ate conch, maybe just In fritters but you can’t really get an idea that way. Maybe I’ll have the nerve to try it one time…it all depends on how it’s prepared. You took great videos of everything with close-up pictures and very precise about everything. Love the 74-year-old bohemian. What a sweetheart and that was very nice of you to bring him fish. I’m sure he loved that. Thanks again and look forward to seeing your next video chow for now. oh by the way…both of you don’t look old enough to have children…ha…that’s a compliment…peace be with you all…🍃🙌🐚🐚🐚🙌🍃🌊🌊🌊

  • Wow...totally amazed at your knowledge and sharing! loved watching Kelly out swimming while you caught your fish. One of my favorite places/ Bahama's. We went on a Private Island where we tried to get a Conch out of the shell. The bartenders noticed us and then one came out to take the Conch out and filet it for us. He said I can cook this for you to perfection. He then quickly filet'd out two more Conch and we watched as he smashed it, added flavors, dredged it and fried it. He said the boys saw you having such a good time with the Conch we all decided it would be a good snack as our shift is about to end. He had added a nice fruit salad and cold rice from the buffets for our meals . It was amazing food...we heard amazing stories about Conch...their families. They were so interested in our lives/our families/Iowa :) learned our "cook" had actually gone to Culinary school in the states and was filling in for a friend/employee who had a family emergency. Wow...what luck!

He said his uncle shot the teacher who did that (6 ft as in burial). Then his uncle went to New York. Then he said he had some other friends who came in today. He was working from 16 I think he said. He sounds like a house keeper for someone house and he was talking about how they bring him the shorts he like. His girlfriend shops for him too. The guy who drives the ambulance and his friend is first cousins. He was a police officer but he isn’t anymore.

  • I lived in Nassau Bahamas for a year working on a 65' Hatteras Sedan chartering for the owner. Best job of my life just me and a friend that I used to smuggle weed with. We would take our guests all over the Bahamas and dive and fish. I would find grass flats and pick up conch for our guests. I'm from the south so when I found out you could fry them, it was all over. They are delicious. To me tastes like a cross between a clam and a shrimp. I met to big Bahamian momma's out on the jetties one day when I was snorkeling, and they sent us out to find some conch for them. They showed us how to clean them by knocking a small hole in the third spiral and cut the flesh there. The whole conch will come out of the shell. You have to clean them of innards, the horn and slice them thin. You have to pound them into a steak, run through a spiced egg wash and fry them crispy brown. It's the Bahamian national dish. Served with pigeon peas and dirty rice. (Rusty)

My uncles loved eating abalone, which has almost the same texture. They would marinate it in lime juice, salsa and a bit of Clamato. Omg, it was so good! Thank you so much for sharing Gabe. God bless your journey home. Love you two. See y’all in the next one!

Fish never knew what hit him, one minute he was swimming along minding his own business, moved in to check out the gangly looking creature trying to swim and "POW" He blinks and suddenly he's swimming in God's aquarium!! I'm glad you enjoyed your trip and the Contender performed just like it said on the tin. You work your butt off bringing us content Gabe, so it's nice to see you relaxed and truly enjoying yourself. • Your explanation on Conch is spot on. We here in Hawaii have the P'U which is the triton trumpet conch. Not a delicacy to us Hawaiians but it'll taste ok with lots of sauces. We don't even target them because if you have a Mu or prized sportfish nearby,... the P'u is left alone LOL

I even bought a rod and jigs they got destroyed in his boat. I asked my dad to teach me his skill because I love it but he didn't, we have a rocky relationship. My dad take me spear fishing with him sometimes I dove with him once it's beautiful. I have work all weekend but if you come to Nassau and say you'll teach me how to catch a fish I'd skip it.

  • Conch is a shellfish a bit different in it's makeup or image you would find them more abundantly in the waters of the Bahamas. It may have started as a myth many many years ago. Until it started becoming to be more noticeable above the amount of babies that was being born The conch for many years was one of the best kept secrets it was never intended to get out. Perhaps it was during the Vietnam war when many more singles was traveling taking a vacation here in the Bahamas.

While in St. Thomas in late 80's came across a baracuda that size. It was circling us while snorkeling. Not a pleasant feeling. Great video. I loved the Bahamas. Actually I love the Caribbean.
