Catfish are simple critters, so it doesn't take rocket surgery to figure out how to catch 'em. Here's a few things I look for that helps me fill a stringer.

Just a tip an old dude taught me, keep your cast net in a bucket. A lot quicker deployment than tying it up. Every once in so often soak it in some scent less fabric conditioner. Not detergent, but anyways it makes it to where you don’t get tangled up nets as often. Keeps the net supple and opens up like a dream
Just got back to finish this video after some rough days. You won't believe how much a little cat fishing can brighten the day. Thank you for sharing your trip, and glad to see you both home. Enjoy and stay safe.
I'm happy to hear it made you a little happier. Hopefully things are on the up and up for ya. Thank you for all the support.
It's really sad that people leave so much trash behind. I've seen some of your videos where you pick up some stuff. I thank you for that, Spencer. 😊😊
One of my favorite spots is always full of crap. Diapers and all kinds of junk. 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
Because of Spencer, I've started doing that because I would hate it if they banned the few close fishing spots around me and it's just disgusting seeing all the crap people leave around so carelessly.
I should honestly pick up more. I agree though, it is sad.
@@RiverCertified shouldn't have to be your responsibility or everyone else's to pick up after these clowns.
Always bring a trash bag, make the spot look better than when you get there. Nature will pay you kindly
Love the bank fishing vids. Thanks for taking us along!
You bet man!
Epic video as always!!! Love it when you include catching bait, I’ve been catching chubs with a rod and reel my whole life and many of my fishing buddies didn’t think it was possible!!!! My chub holes are a sacred as a good mushroom spot. Keep up the good work!!!! Try a longer rod and don’t cast to them, you can actually make the larger ones come to the surface, almost like shadow casting for trout!
Loved it! I catfish all winter, usually the river running into the lake has open water when most of the lake is frozen over. I only use 3 to 4 inch shad running the hook from the mouth to the tail . I bag and freeze shad starting in September ( wife hates shad in the freezer) oh well! A man has to have bait. Thanks for sharing Spencer.
Loving these tips, just starting out my channel, we shall see how it goes! Been fishing for years but figured since I fish almost everyday being 10 miles from lake texoma I’ll start recording and see where it goes!! Great job!!
Spencer what can I say?? You are a great teacher and it's alot of fun to sort of sit at your feet to learn. Down here In Missouri today it's cold with heavy sleet. I'm saying to myself fishing weather can't get here to quick for me. Thank you for your time and attention to showing us how it's done. Take care and God bless
Glad you enjoyed it. I was actually fishing down there the last few days. Left before the sleet, but got caught in it on the way home. Made it, but definitely wasn't the most fun hauling a boat.
Another great video Spencer! I appreciate your taking us with you. Always fun to have your little companion along! He always strikes me of understanding the situation. 🙂🤔🙂 . Oh those would have been some tasty fish! God bless all here.
Friday, Match 17, 4:55 AM. Love your show, Spencer. I've learned a lot since watching you about the last year. 🎉❤🎉
This is my kind of video i need all tips i can get. 7 kids an they love catfishing love the videos thank you
Can't believe you got me to stop watching The Big Dance to watch this. Great stuff. Thanks as always for sharing brother!! 👍🏽👊🏽✊🏽☺💯
Yes. Wind at your back is preferable to be sure. Just ran into that situation yesterday when scouting a new lake. Going back tomorrow, and will go to the spot I found with wind at my back.😁
Glad you made it back looking forward for your next video
Thanks man!
No boat no kayak, bank is fishing gets me going. Thanks for the bank fishing v's. FISH ON !
😂😂😂😂😂😂 THIS IS A GREAT VIDEO!!!! I just found that I really enjoy catfishing, and this is the first time I've been fishing during January, and February for anything. I'm looking forward to getting on some blue catfish in a few weeks. 😊😊😊😊😊😊
Great video!! I can't wait to get my rod in the river and hope to get another big flathead
Great video Spencer, cool Bank fishing, total perseverance you did great . totally enjoyed..
Glad you enjoyed it Jeff.
Like always Spencer another great video! Glad to see you made it back safe!
I appreciate that man. Glad ya enjoyed it!
It's awesome watching your videos, you fish in areas that I do a lot of fishing in... Mississippi River and creeks that run off of it. I'm just south of you in Missouri, right on the Mississippi River. Ha ent had much luck yet, so you give me hope that there are still some cats out there!
Has anyone told you, you’re relaxing to listen to. I ran out of bait in New Orleans and used fried Churches chicken. I caught over 12 blues from the Mississippi River bank in Plaquemines parish .
I've hear of people catching them on raw chicken, but fried chicken would be a first. I've never tried mainly because I eat it all haha
Great video man I enjoy every video you put out great tips keep those lines tight my friend
Thanks for the tips Spenc!
You bet!
I really like your double hook rig, seems better than the one I use. Could you give a little tutorial on how you tie it? Thanks in advance. Don't know about up north, but cold water cats are my favorite eaters. 😊 Great video BTW.
It was warmer than usual in early spring. You didn't fall in the water. You didn't lose a rod in the water. You didn't catch a giant but you did catch nice fish all day. Thats a solid day in my book.
Great job. Super fun trip
Thanks so much. Glad ya enjoyed it!
Life is good and thanks for reminding me.
Really like your videos brosuff, keep it up
You got some good structure there nice
Thankyou for all your tips and very educational.
No problem. Glad you found some value in this video man!
I'm definitely going to have to try out the shallow mucky fishing, thanks for the lesson Spencer.. We definitely have lots of muck and shallow water here in NW Indiana at the moment..
I hope ya beat em up man!
My guy. Always enjoyable
It's still cold here in Illinois and the river is still high but last Friday I got a 5,4 and 3lber on cut up carp and worm, love the sinker slides
Sounds like a darn good day to me man
@RiverCertified it was got a lot of action once the cut bait went out, lost 2 pieces, should of kept the 5lber the 3lber was a pretty female, don't keep females
Glad ya made it home safe!
Thank you!
Glad your back home Brother
Much appreciated
Enjoyed the Florida vids. Good to see you back home too.
Thanks man
Glad to see you back in the good ole midwest.
Thanks man
You should go on tour of all the popular fishing spots of Iowa. Looking up Red Rock is how I found you!
Hey Spencer great video!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Since I have no access to Blue Cats and very little access to Flat heads, I would have filled the freezer with that catch. Great video. I am looking forward to more fishing soon!
They would have been good eaters. My freezer is full of deer, so I gotta eat some of that before I throw some cats in there.
@@RiverCertified a freezer full of deer is an abundant wealth.
Being from Wisconsin I love that you say ope 😂
That semi-spill at 8:00 was athletic! Almost like one of them Iowanian wraslers
If the shoe fits, I reckon I'll wear it. Wrestling shoe anyway haha
I have some spots in central Minnesota where I use a #0 Mepps Aglia bucktail to get some big chubs. I go after them just for fun sometimes.👍
Thanks for the tips .
You bet!
Thank you RC
Thank you for watching
Another aswsom video brother keep them coming I'll be here watching always. Peace out from Ohio Don T
Glad ya enjoyed it Don
cool you brought your dog. He kind a looked out of place. Luv your vids. Ever come out to KS where the Kaw River meets the Mighty Mo. Thats a very general area that close to where I have fished from boat & shore for more than 40 years. I go by KawRiverrat I'm easy to find
We used to be able to buy crawfish that were molting you had to use them quick but they was like a piece of leather and straight burn it up also used to use eels cut bait eels or just ells in general.
Go get em spencer keep them coming
When you are fishing for smaller species, try a pencil float, a porcupine quill float if you can find one. They are more sensitive to light strikes
Not being able to keep a rod in the water because of a chaotic bite is a great problem to have. Had a few night fishing trips last summer go down while fishing the California aqueduct.🎣🤙
Another river certified classic 😎
Thank ya man!
Good stuff! 🤙
Thanks! 😁
I need to book a guide trip and leave you with some of my taller rod holders to get those reels up away from the sand and mud!
Welcome back to the midwest. I'll be up at the John deer plant in iowa for the next week and naturally left my travel rod at home
With the weather next week, might be worth grabbing another
Wanna catch kitties on the bank? Build a nice fire. Grab your cold ones. Glob you up some worms. Throw er in. Kick back, relax. Don't forget your bell so they wake you up when they jingle lol.
Definitely a solid strategy
@@RiverCertified lol, you know it buddy. 🤙🏼 Thanks for the vid
Lots of fiddlers. Thanks for sharing.
You bet. Fiddlers definitely have their time and place in my heart
Get a double triple hook set up on your chub pole. It works great for those lil schools of them
I was shocked you didn't keep any!! Cold water fish are the best!!!
Awesome video man
Appreciate it man
Can't say I've seen a whole lot of people bottom fish on a BaitCaster, Let alone on KZhead! Great Video brother!
Thanks for watching!
@@RiverCertified Anytime!
Chris here from panhandle Florida miss seeing you on the river
I might be back next winter. Kinda up in the air between there and Bama. I appreciate that though man.
great vides as always. thanks for sharing. forgot to unpack the orange and black?
Getting to be walleye time amigo, I'll give ya a shout when it gets good.
Thank you very much
Thank you for watching
That’s our wheelhouse. Been doing that as long as I remember. Great video
Yes sir. Tough to beat it when the weather is decent.
Enjoyed 👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽
Glad to hear it man!
This is the kind of catfishing I did all through my childhood. In rivers or ponds. Normally setting my poles on a electric fence. FYI always make sure the electric fence ain’t on😆 Even lost few poles to big catfish’s while taking a Pee in the woods through the years. LoL fun times
My favorite way to catch chubs is a 1/32 jighead and a tiny piece of slim Jim. Soon as it hits the water they are on it. Using an ultralight and 2lb line it's a ton of fun.
That sounds fun to me man
Love a great channel cat show Cubs fan!
Much appreciated! Go Cubbies!
great video as always!!! Do you have a website, or do you do any guide services?
you know, maybe its overrated, but it looks like you use the same kind of j-hook i like to use for cats. The octopus hook. They have the offset shank, and most have the offset eye. Perfect for snelling. Heavy wire for the size of the hook. Almost never have to worry about a gnarly cat bending the hook, and you can get them all the way up to 10 ought from gamakatsu. definitely my preferred hook.
Yep that's what I use. Except for blue cats. They suck for blue cats.
Oh I miss early catfishing 🙂👍
What would you recommend for a lighter bait caster setup like you are running in this video? I love my big bait casters so far but I’m interested in a lighter set for cats aswell
Cool video Spencer 😎 hey as far as j hooks versus circle hooks what is the difference between them other then setting the hook? As far as I know I personally feel that circle hooks are easier to set for me and they hide better. J hooks hold bait better but I like fishing with live bait to me circle hooks are better for what I like and use them for. Does that make sense. Or am I just flapping my jobs?😳lol
Get you a few Gee's minnow traps, I get all my creek chubs this way in small streams like that here in central Ohio.
I honestly enjoy catching them
@@RiverCertified I hear ya grew up doing the same thing catching them with crawdad tails while wading, got 3 kids now so time is limited for me.
That was the most graceful white guy fall I’ve ever seen lol… nice vid bro
Haha that's hilarious. Thanks for watching man.
They say that nightcrawlers any kind of worm do better in the spring of the year and leeches leeches are real good too in the fall but I'm a firm believer in cut bait but they'd like minnows after the spawn...
I was wondering if your signature series rods are still coming out if so any updates on that?
Hi Spence Doug from Michigan I catch a lot of my bait the same way you do little cricks and strings
It's almost as fun as the catfishing
Fishing for creek chubs is my favorite it’s like the appetizer of fishing 😂
The appetizer of fishing. That's awesome.
A creek chub was the first fish I caught in my life, about 65 years ago.
That jacket is 🔥
It's warm too haha
When u find them....hammer it! I get pissed when it takes me 15 or mins gettn bait. I eat damn near everything as well. Love ur content!!!
@text_74 Is this the number BUD?
Either way if I WON something....please give it to a young fisherman. Even if its a fishing trip with u...WHICH I WANT...fishing has made me whom I am. And to give anything to a younger one would make my day! I'm going to fish with u one day in this world or the next.....LOVE ALL OF IT
It's snowing..... Suppose to get nearly two feet in some of my fishing spots up here. Suppose I'll check some of the free waters down towards the city and toss some flys for carp.
At least ya got a plan. Sounds like a solid one in my opinion
Threw back a couple of fish frys !Great Vid! C'mon Baseball
Heeeeeeeyyyyyy Bauer 👑🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🤗
I live near the rock river in illinois. I hit up all the little creek Bridges to find the chubs. Last year I wanted to catfish but didn’t have hopes of catching a huge one and literally every single chub I caught was 10”+.
There's not enough days like that unfortunately
What brand and size castnet do you prefer for shad?
There’s one in there taking a nap had me laughing harder than I should have
Haha that's great
You ever use any jig's??? I've seen people do. Good with them
A great day rat fishing makes a good day, you and your buddy woody nice job spencer
I definitely can't complain. Having my little buddy along definitely makes it even more enjoyable
Yea bro ...that's how it works.. when it rains sometimes it does pour 😂
Spencer its my dream to go to the Amazon and I was wondering about how much the trip would cost
I've never seen creek chubs Texas. I do get lost in bait fishing madtom fingerlings, perch, and bullheads for bait. Blue/Flathead/alligator garfish candy.
I've heard those are good. Never tried them though. Tough for me to find them consistently.
I caught a 66lb the other day on a ledge frome the bank, it was awesome
Congrats man, that is awesome!
Love winter kill shad in early spring, cats enjoy them also
That's interesting. I've never tried them.
Iowa is for sure underrated
For channel cats I'll definitely agree with that. Maybe wipers.
So when you going to come down to western Kentucky
need an honest opinion on the whisker seaker tripple threats and you’re an honest guy lol how reliable is setting the hook with them? they work great as circle hooks but very skeptical about being able to set the hook instead of letting the fish set the hook
Honestly, I haven't had any success doing it. Any fish you set the hook on and land was probably hooked before you set.
