I guess if you’re inside the elevator and your dog runs out at the last second, probably just spam press “floor 1” so there’s still slack on the leash. Then just hit the bell so others can’t use the elevator. If you go up to floor 70 your dogs probs gunna die.
Could also make sure your dog doesn't end up on the other side of the elevator doors in the first place, then you don't need to worry about the type of harness.

Can you imagine how scared the owner must have been? I'm so glad the dog was okay.
Doubt they even noticed because it usually happens to careless and irresponsible people. Not hard to keep their leash at a length where they can't walk out or pick them up if they're small but you know; people are stupid and it sucks when others have to pay the price for it.

The owner probably pressed the emergency stop and saved the dog to begin with the dog probably darted out last second...
The replies are being really harsh when we really don't know the full story.. animals can be unpredictable. Maybe the owner was holding the leash close, and last second the dog bolted out of the door causing them to lose their grip. This could have very well been an accident, we can't blame or declare the owner innocent of negligence yet

That was horrific. The elevator was obviously on the floor above and the dog had a long leash, if the elevator would went one floor up it would have killed the dog.

Seeing how the person was waiting there, I'm guessing the elevator was *already* further than one floor up. My guess is the owner realized what happened, and dropped the leash so it didn't get stuck in the elevator. The only thing holding that leash up right there is that pair of doors. If the elevator were to open, then the dog would've fallen, maybe bruised a bit, but would be ok. I doubt the owner is *THAT* oblivious.
I like how the guy who rescued the dog didn't waste anytime doing the logical thing after he realized he couldn't open the door.

I can't imagine how that dog's owner felt. Not just the guilt but the anxiety of not knowing whether or not the dog was okay. Edit - Yes, the owner was careless and this should have been prevented, however, this does not automatically make them a terrible owner and/or a bad person. Mistakes happen and we weren't there. We've all made mistakes in life so don't be quick to judge something you didn't see.
I remember once a dog going into an elevator and the door closed, the owner was still outside, it pulled the leash from his hands. I seen the dog afterwards..but the owner was a moron.

@@yellowcatmonkey it's like the kind of guilt you feel when you do something stupid unintentionally that hurts someone you care about, but you still feel guilty it happened despite it never having been intentional. Kinda similar to surviors guilt, where people feel guilty for living through a tragedy while their friend died. It wasn't your fault but you still feel guilt for the whole thing.
Owner was likely looking at their phone too, not realizing the dog wasn't in the elevator.
