I did 4 years No-Gi swearing that Yes-Gi was for the un-athletic dweebs. That’s still true but now that I’m 38, I love Gi. It’s complex, it’s dynamic, and it has only helped my No-Gi game. Now I tell all the white belts to do both. Don’t miss out on time for both. Especially if you’re passed 30.

I train no gi now and have been for the past maybe 4 years but still to this day I wear gi pants and encourage my training partners to use it against me so when I ever do drop by other gyms that do gi I can use a good chunk of my guard retention techniques and not be completely lost lol.

Okay. Refresh my memory. I'm assuming that gordon ryan is against kimonos, or at least training in them. Could someone give me a rundown? I'm pretty old school and i prefer the kimono, however i do enjoy training without it. The only reason i'm saying kimono here is because i am dictating the comment into my phone and it will just put the word gay if i say otherwise, rather than GI
Gordon started in the Gi and even competed Gi tournaments, but no-gi is mirė popular in the US. His coach was also the ground coach for some UFC fighters like GSP, so it’s natural they would train no-gi

Average Dude going to his bjj class and randomly sparing with n°1 jiujitsu player in the world, lol........ getting controled by some moves that even gordon ryan is surprised off. It s like competing with the new dude of the gym but he s fucking you up from a thousand years lights away. He is like "wouw, did not know i could do that move with the gi". It s like kid sangoku discovering he can do a big kamehameha on you while you still learning your 3nd passing guard technique.
