Can you react to my CGI? It was made using Alice. Could you tell me how I could make it look more believable.
Alright I'm not sure if you haven't but next could you react to The Protector stairwell fight
“It’s all handheld? It looks like it’s on steadicam.” “Oh, excellent.” Literally the highest praise you can give a unit director.
It's actually crazy how much we praise the directors for their movies, where in reality most of them aren't even involved in shooting the action scenes.
That's the equivalent of playing so good the players accuse you of cheating. It feels so good
Stephane Gregory Dan so true it hurts.
@@gabevillarrealedits It does really hurt. I know there is just a bunch of directors who do direct the action scenes with the stunt designer together. There at least I would say. yeah ok. the director really does have a cool vision. But if A unit only shoots typical dialogue scenes... meh.
The camera was moving the whole time it wasn’t super shaky but there’s no way it was steady cam

I'm still shocked that the Kingsmen cam was handheld. When professional is bordering on witchcraft.
I had to come back and watch this again. Awesome Heart and Art. Get this guy back on when you can for a "Unit Directors React". (Maybe start with "Unlocked 2017" ? )
So the guy that does the Kingsman action scenes, and the Solo action scenes, and he draws heavy inspiration from anime and specifically the Kakashi Obito fight.... I might be in love with this man.

"Stuntmen React..." Chris: "I'm not a stunt guy"
Scott Loucks i know, is this an accident?
I mean, he's an honorary stuntman, right?
@just a channel And alot of action directors sometimes used to be Stuntmen, look at The Directors of John Wick, both used to direct action scenes, and also acted in stunt performers. You can see both get killed in The Mechanic which one of them directed the action scenes on, Chad is the one who gets shot through the mirror, and David is the one who faked his death and has a briefcase handle that's a weapon.
Also keeping with the series title. They could title it Action Director but perhaps they weren't thinking it could be made into a series or something.
Agree with everyone, just thought it was a funny quote :)
The best part about those Kingsmen fight scenes, is that they have the high energy of the modern super zoomed in shaky cam, fast cut crap that's been going on for years, without any of that crap.
It’s like quick cut but you can very clearly see the action
True and the kingsman's shots are so good and clean. Like a video game but more realistic
In a way it’s the anti-shaky cam, since it’s super wide angle and the shutter speed is really high. Personally i don’t care for the speed ramping in the Kingsman films but I respect the thought and the craft that goes into the fight scenes.
looks silly

Another big problem I have with the Bourne fight scene is that they're both wearing black in very dramatic lighting, so when they're overlapping each other, they become one black blob, and you are unable to track each of the actors individually. That, along with the camerawork, makes the scene damn near impossible to follow for the audience.

"we should do an anime episode" animators react to bad and great animation?
Naruto and naruto
I’d like to suggest something recent for this episode. I’d like to see something from Fire Force. The studio behind Fire Force is constantly upping the animation niveau for the show. Episode 14 has my favorite fight (vs the horned Infernal) so far even better than the End of Episode 19 of Demon Slayer this year. Sorry if I triggered some people but that was a real ass-pull right there. The end and the song were incredible but the fight itself was not really top. The battle of Zenitsu vs that human-headed spider demon was better in my honest opinion. Another show with amazing fights especially choreography-wise is Revue Starlight. And if I have to choose something bad it would be Hand Shakers.
Fate Stay Heavens Feel II
Meliodas VS Escanor from Seven Deadly Sins S3 EP12. It is... SO abysmally bad.
@@yato6113 not really an asspull if you've read the manga

Still would loooove to see that Action Design In Anime video with Chris Cowan coming back for it, that would be phenomenal! Been a big fan of Chris for ages! So cool to see how far he’s come! Definitely bring him back!
Kingsman is one of the most visually impressive action movies I've ever seen, it's great to hear from somebody who got so close to my favorite scenes!
SMOOTHIE SOUNDZ Kingman 2 was the first movie in a really long while that I'v just turned off after about 15-20 minutes. Couldn't stomach how extremely dumb the action was.
@No Faith I appreciate what's going on with the action scenes, but it felt like it was too full on all the time. It was just like they tasked themselves with upping the ante from the Church scene of from the first movie and doing it everywhere for the second. So much of the action just doesn't let it breath. It camera spins, with crazy whips and zooms and close ups, mostly without cutting (or hidden cuts). I found it difficult to really sit through tbh.
@@mrcraggle I get what you're saying with the fight scene in the car. But I don't feel like this really applies to things like the Poppyland shootout or the dinner fight. They were beautifully shot imo.
The best action movie I have seen in a long time

Yep. My favorite fight from Naruto.

Love seeing these action scenes in the context of anime and animation. You really notice how many qualities good fight scenes share with good animation - anticipation, follow-through, etc. Great episode.
As audience members, we really do take for granted the amount of work that goes into these shots... It's crazy.

I love how excited Chris gets about anime 😂 it’s cool
it inspired me honestly. it made me wanna go make stuff
The part with the Bourne fight and the bit where they were talking about framing it better so that you can actually follow what's going on in the shot reminded me of Bumblebee vs Michael Bay's older Transformers movies. Look at basically any fight in Bay's movies, you really have to focus to see what's actually happening in the fights, but even just the fight on the mountain in the beginning of Bumblebee, it's a 1v1, well lit, focused on the characters, and just... so much better. That's what that little segment made me think of.
The teleport-fu used on this UA:LA was really great, and it shows that is completely possible to make a great live-action anime. We just need someone who knows what he is doing. Like this dude there.
“We should do an anime video” D immidiately appears in the background.
the irony.
I’m happy they’re getting the recognition they deserve
the kingsmen fight scenes are sooo sweet, now i know why, this guy's filming style should be the gold standard. John wick films do something similar, i.e. they allow the shots to 'breathe' and the camera tracks with the kicks and punches, no crappy confusing jump cuts.
