    • and afaik that could easily be said up until the eighties. for example, some of the earlier James Bond stunts are just completely ridiculous (to the point at which it's kind of troubling that someone greenlit them in the first place).

  • 2:37 There's additional railcar with crashpad on it. So it more about camera placing and train pace. Silent movies deserve a "VFX artists react" special. At very least it could be about Georges Méliès and Trip to the Moon @CorridorCrew

  • One obstacle that makes the truck scene from Christmas Vacation even MORE great is that once the driver of the station wagon pulls under the truck, the wind resistance changes relatively dramatically, necessetating a change in throttle pressure, so not only does the driver of the station wagon need to match the speed of the truck, they need to change throttle as they're moving under the truck. Simply an insane stunt. This series is just the best.

    @notoriouszig@notoriouszig2 жыл бұрын
    • Hey bro probably a really dumbass question incoming: how is the rear of that truck connected to the front?! Am i right in saying it’s literally the weight of the logs holding the back wheel section to the front?? Can see some sort of cables holding it, doesn’t seem to be a bed of any kind just wondering if you/anyone knows as this is proper confusing me aha

      @R__A@R__A Жыл бұрын

    • Not really. With a source that can provide enough current you can get decent sparks with safe voltage. Say you hook up five car batteries in series, that's only 60 volts DC which is still considered safe to touch (does not apply to AC, for AC the limit is lower), meanwhile you can fucking weld with just two car batteries in series.

    • They did the same thing in "Highlander" and "The Duelists". Basically, they hook one actor's weapon up with a wire that has a positive charge while the other actor's weapon has a negative charge. That way when the weapons touch, you get sparks. A bit sketchy, but not totally impossible.

Pretty sure they actually have rubber blades, and likely hollowed out shells to make the chainsaws much lighter and maneuverable for the fighting, and then fully operational machines for cutting shots real blades are very stiff in comparison. Another great vid guys!

    • In fact, the saw in the kill shot with the table has a much dirtier machine with a side exit muffler, where the fighting shots have a front facing exhaust port and perfect paint on the bottom. I would guess the engines have likely been replaced with the electronics necessary to make the sparks on contact (which is also very clever, I'm curious how they sparked against the cloth on his shirt)

Apparently, his films included multiple airplane stunt scenes, where characters were dangling off of the airplane while they flew under bridges and into barns (travsd.wordpress.com/2018/08/19/for-wrightbrothersday-several-great-comedy-climaxes-in-airplanes/ ). This happened in 1910s and 1920s, literally a century ago. More importantly, he hired stuntmen to do the stunts for him, unlike Chaplin, Keaton, or Lloyd. Maybe not something to celebrate, but definitely more reasons for Stuntperson React to check out his plane stunts.

    • Also, Phantasm 2, classic cult 80s horror. I'm actually convinced the Mandy scene is an homage to the one in Phantasm 2 because (iirc) they both do the thing where the baddy slowly pulls his chainsaw from behind a thingy to reveal the longest blade in the world. Could be a coincidence, but given the kind of movie Mandy is, I choose to believe it's a reference.

  • This is a true story. When I was around 9, my dad took my sister and I to gym that had rock climbing structure for kids outside. I was climbing it, and right when I was about to touch the bell at the top, the strap to the harness broke. I fell 35 feet on to my back, on a floor of pebbles. The ambulance was called and I was taken straight to the hospital. I went through an MRI and everything. The doctors did not find any broken bones or anything else wrong with me. They were confused, so they had me stay a couple nights to make sure nothing happened. In the end, the only injury I had, was a tiny bruise the size of half dollar on my back.

  • I've got a couple which are probably too obvious, but i'd still like to see broken down: Police Story - Aside from the obvious fireman's pole stunt, in the opening bus scene 2 stuntmen take a wicked fall off the top of a double decker bus which looks ridiculous. There's also a bunch of falls and glass breaks in the end mall fight scene which look pretty hectic (not entirely sure how much is sugar glass). Winners and Sinners - Jackie Chan goes under a semi-trailer on roller skates (not sure on timing and speed or if the tape is sped up). Project A - Aside from the obvious clocktower fall, towards the ending Sammo Hung falls off a flight of stairs seemingly into a solid wall and takes a pretty big bump. He's only wearing a vest (no shirt underneath), so he doesn't look padded up in the slightest. Armour of God - Jackie Chan fights 4 Amazonian looking women wearing high heels, there's a couple of falls that look pretty heavy. Also, as a rare "Bad Stunt", at the ending he base jumps off a cliff and somehow ends up landing on a hot air balloon (in one cut you can see a tree in the background) and abseiling from on top into the basket. The environment scaling is a bit questionable in that one, but the end wide shot is insane. Love your work!!
