Our final instalment with expert trader Tom Hougaard concludes with using the Stroop test to show how our minds can be easily misled and how we can react quickly without thinking. He uses this as a metaphor to show how when we stare at stock charts, our minds can jump to conclusions.
We, therefore, need to discipline ourselves so we don’t react without thinking when trading. He instructs us to not be fooled by our mind's tendency to jump to these conclusions, as it seeks out the answer we want.

Spread bets and CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. 66% of retail investor accounts lose money when spread betting and/or trading CFDs with this provider. You should consider whether you understand how spread bets and CFDs work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money

He clearly didnt say a word about closing the position. So all it was bla bla bla, cheap words and advices. Buy hight sell even higher? Add to ur winning position? Well, cheap words.

      @alexairplanner@alexairplanner2 жыл бұрын
    • @@alexairplanner The one thing he was absolutely correct about is that everyone is doing the same technicals and still losing. Technicals and even fundamentals with all the paid subscriptions now are pretty easy. So I would tend to believe it has a lot to do with psychology....hence the reason its much easier to kill it on paper trading and then you go bust on real. Its the fear of losing real money...not the trading. The charts are the same.

  • I very much appreciate this presentation. I've been sick and unemployed for the last 5 years without a pot to piss in. Cant feed a family on just crypto mining unless you already had thousands and thousands of dollars to start with. The volatility of the crypto markets without the constraints of the rules of traditional trading is about my only ticket at this point. I went a week without any training. Then a week after learning technical analysis, and tonight i turn a new leaf. I earn $30 a day in mining and I can afford to lose that $30 every day until I stop losing. This presentation has taught me alot about my initial strategy, its advantages and disadvantages. Today was the last day I take profits in ways as so many KZhead personalities suggest. Lost most of my earnings today on ethereum when it rocketed 160 bucks either resizing my position, or thinking it would be ok to take my profit for the day, then getting scared I made the wrong choice. Now, had I went long and stayed there when the price was down $260 a day ago......point is you dont know until you know and you have set off already to find out. I was right nearly 100% on paper but when real money was in a trade, I second guessed my way in to making the exchange lots of money and me almost nothing instead of seeing things to the end from where I started. Also exiting good moves for fear of losing. My position did grow, but not the nearly 40% it should have, had I watched this yesterday. The excercise in fear I will certainly have to embrace. I was viciously attacked by 2 dogs when I was 3 years old and fear has been a constant complication in my life ever since. But I overcame that and I'm also autistic, so cutting the emotion out in order to get the work done and be the best I can be or need to be is second nature by this point. Plus I work best alone and I can work anytime now, even when I'm sick. I can take the days off I need and wont get fired if I cant get out of bed on my first day on the job. I'd rather be welding, or machining, or driving truck, or farming, any work with my hands, body , mind and soul. But since my body is decrepit, I will trade for my family's sake.

    • Hope you are doing well. It's a very difficult path to earn money this way. Very difficult specially first three years. Anyway I wanted to point something about what you said. What I see is that if you where attacked by two dogs when you were almost a baby and you survived then you should be PROUD of yourself. Even more those dogs must be dead by this time and you are here to tell it. You won the battle, you won! Best wishes to you and your family

  • Great series of lectures - but if you "think" that you could identify some Thur-Fri-Mon/hi/low pattern such as described here ahead of thousands of computers programmed by Math/Physics PHd's from MIT and such - that's delusional. I traded for couple of decades now, +10K trades per year, and it's easier to assume prices are random, because they (mostly) are. Best wishes in trading!
