  • With all the questions you get about mulching….this, THIS is a great example of when a person wants to mulch. Who knows, maybe someone will want to know why you didn’t make a burn pile?

  • The mulcher is so satsifying to watch. It touched on stick of a skinny little tree standing up and it just turned to dust.

  • Leave some of the smaller White Oaks to take over once the old ones die. Upside, they came from seed, less likely to have a hollow.

  • Buy yourself about 50 to 100 lbs of Rebel Fescue and when you get a large patch spread just 12-12-12 fertilizer and the Rebel Fescue then lightly mulch it in. It will grow like hair on a dogs back but will not get tall and it has such a thin blade of grass it looks like bluegrass. I have slowly over seeded my lawn with Rebel Fescue and I have 1.3 acres of the most beautiful lawn and under my clumps of trees where it’s super shady.

  • Chris, there are grass seeds that will grow in areas like that. Cannot remember but thirty years or so ago I cleaned up an area like that and went to the nursery and they suggested a specific type of fescue for full shade areas and it turned out great. Most varieties won't work in full shade but all regions have some type that will work. Just got to ask those who do it full time for advice.

Who wouldn't want to ride in there in a mulcher, i know i would do it in a heartbeat! Driving that battle tank into the enemy, let's go! Yeah im about 50, and i am not too old for that shhhh! There is a mulcher driver inside most of us men. Come on my mulcher guys, i know you're out there lurking. Where you at boys?? 😂

That may be a great spot to watch fire flies in the spring. Pond filled up and looks great. The second area next to the field will be good to get rid of poison Ivey and Oak- of course it looks good cleared.

  • the more time you spend on the multcher, you're getting better at it Chris. I wish it had a rear camera so you can see the trees that shoot out from under it.. I wish you also had an indicator as to how tilted down it was, so you get a better bite when you're in reverse. Good work... it's going to look great when you're through.

Then when you said you were going to use the leaf blower to clear debris from the mulcher ,I wondered if you should blow the dust out of the cabin build so your contractors wouldn't be swearing at you? :)

  • Back in the good old days the head forester would send men into the woods in spring to drop the lower branches off the trees this ensured extra light got to the forest floor for fodder to grow live stock would follow the men and eat the young fresh leaves from the dropped branches then the local folk would collect up the dropped timber for fire wood known as Tillage., If an area was clear felled or thinned it would be fenced off and young trees allowed to grow anything unwanted would be cleared out for the first few years and by the time the fence had rotted and was no longer stock proof the new trees would be past harm from the livestock, and would be out competing other vegetation, the new timber patch would join the rest of the forest in its annual pruning. Of course the annual pruning grew straighter clearer timber for construction and ship building. A very lucrative crop for the local lord. And provided clear hunting for the King.
