  • When dealing with addiction, awareness plays one of the biggest roles towards your path to freedom. Many people want to 'quit' an addiction, but they are not yet aware as to WHY they actually want to quit. People don't quit doing something because they want to. They only quit once their mind is ready.

    • @@dbearden3232 I said specifically the way he uses manipulation in his daily life. It's one thing to mess with a military team, it's another to do it to shoppers, commuters, and tax payers. I listened to jocko more after his Ted talk and thought he was very forward. There is also "Good" video by Akira the Don which resonates with me. Maybe I'm just getting old, when I see jocko taking advantage of people and grinning about it?

  • As someone diagnosed with autism I had to learn to not be my own type or friend. I can’t use my own sensitivities as a guideline for other people. If I have to constrain myself and my behaviour to my own sensory processing I won’t get anything in life. I’ll just stay too quiet. But that also requires me to “brain” myself trough social situations instead of being intuitive and that’s severely exhausting.

    • Be authentically who you are and you will find people who love you for you. Growing up with racism, I was told that who I was born as is wrong and there is a right way to be. I was taught to be who others wanted, and to disregard who I am. I had to relearn who I was, and, in the process, learned that other people did not know who they were. Therefore, I was told who to be by people who did not even know themselves, because it made them feel better about themselves.

I meant “exhausting” Autocorrect screwed me over without me noticing🤦‍♂️ it’s fixed… I think people who are neuro-typical and extroverted don’t need to “be in their head” that much because their natural impulses are attuned to people. For us autistic people we have to fight our natural impulses and act in social situations. It also requires me to be louder and more outgoing than I would like to be around myself. That’s what I meant to “not be my own type or friend”.

    • I get what you mean and it took me a long time to understand but as long as you want to have an equal experiences between people, you'll fail because everybody has different expectations from friendships. You can't copy the intuition of other people, you have to figure out your own social intuition

  • A lack of self awareness can make others interact with you in the way that you want, but completely unaware that that conditioning is not allowing the truth of them to come forward. Like a father that tells his kids or wife that their feelings are invalid, but then is surprised when he finds they’re depressed and anxious due to suppression and lack of support. His lack of self awareness would tell him it’s their problem for not expressing themselves the way he easily can and is completely unaware that his reaction to their truth makes them not say anything, and is ruining their trust. Narcissists do this a lot.

  • There's a concept in social psychology called deindividuation. It refers to the loss of self awareness especially when you're part of a group that promotes conforming to their norms, and it can lead to people behaving in ways they never would consider individually, and often increased disregard for how they would be individually evaluated. When people identify themselves as part of a group or even as anonymous, you tend to lose your self-awareness and become more of a social robot than an individual with values.

In corporate America, it's not a meritocracy, it's nepotism and power moves. Make people look good, and you'll be in their hushed conversations.

  • There is a balance to everything. Low self awareness leads to reckless behavior of all manners, but super high levels of self awareness can lead to overanalyzing every situation which is anxiety inducing and can be debilitating.

  • I think one of the few ways you can get credit, for some thing would be letting someone know about the life experiences and the things you learned from them. May not necessarily sound like bragging, Once they know all the hard work you had to put in to accomplish it. However, it should kind of apply to the situation at hand not just random topics spewed out. Being the person to help someone learn something faster than you had to,is the credit that you should be getting from it from yourself.

  • Dichotomy: Too much self awareness (introspection) when people act like jerks to us and we ask ourselves "Was I being a jerk to them? Did they misinterpret my actions? Did I offend them somehow? Did I do something wrong?"

    • I think it is the doubt regarding what’s right that is the problem. If you objectify your vision of yourself and others by using a standard (for example religion), you don’t automatically get doubt.

I wish people could read each other's minds - that would be awesome, but it is not possible. If someone thinks he knows someone's intentions , he runs into risk of misunderstanding people

  • It goes both ways guys. I have been diagnosed with hyper awareness and its fucking brutal. Extremely depressing living your life without any working copes. You know those little lies you tell yourself to help your self confidence? Yah, i dont do that. My inhibitions are so extraordinarily high that i dont do anything remotely fun or interesting. I weigh the risks and rewards in every single action i take in life. People hate hanging out with me because of this. They say im too logical and have the personality of a cardboard box. I wish i could have a little less self awareness tbh. I think it would help with my depression and anxiety. I wish my IQ was 20 points lower so i didnt have to live my life like this.

  • Here's what I *LOVE/RESPECT* most about this Distinction: When Uncle Jock mentioned what *other* people are thinking, imo/e, he already (ipso~Facto) covered Echo's (salient &, 'ah~huh... cough cough... *intent* rich point). Sometimes (or even, more often than not), intent doesn't matter; someone else's mood/state does. We recall a/the quote, from/allegedly attributed to-thank God, for Google, the Eloquent; Maya Angelou: "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will *never* forget, how you made them *feel."* So, if I understand this correctly, it is my lack of Authentic Self Awareness (of Intent... i.e. *"My* Achievement" or *"Their/Everyone's* improved mood/state?" 🤔), which is the root of all the Chaos in my present life. 🤔 And my intent, is to be sure I *fully* understand this.   • I know what intent I bring, I overtly present this image that I can’t be hurt and that most things don’t affect me. Ppl that see me sometimes speak as if “oh this guy doesn’t know pain or wtv” but in my personal life (my head) most days I do think about su, most days I don’t want to be here. But I’ll never show that, I’ll never allow myself to speak about that in real life. Been through crazy shit and I do my best to not speak about it because there’s no point, no one can fix it but me so why bother allowing someone in.

    • Couldn't agree more. I've kept everything to myself until 2022, when I met my girlfriend and had read online that 'talking about your problems makes them easier'. My girlfriend is the absolute best person I have met in my entire life, yet expressing my struggles has done nothing but make them worse. Keeping my issues to myself is key for me.

  • Positive reinforcement is also a driver, especially from a loved one, so I’m not on board with the example of cleaning the house for loved ones. Especially when a couple is raising kids, it’s a show of respect and gratitude and when dissed for effort to contribute towards the cleanliness of a household, that’s not cool…

I am sensing animosity and competivieness...he is younger and handsome and seems to be using that as leverage for people to like him .....he is competing with me! His name is Wesley Gooddale and he seems really really intent on being the star of his own show.....and they look down on me as white trash, yet I have a college education....So it seems that there are caddy people who i work with and they are also from wealthy homes and act entitled ...I am looked down as white trash...I need prayer . I like my job and my intent is always to be supportive yet i am suspect ....

  • Innocent situation: People in my neighborhood teaching their children to shoot at peoples pets, leaving beheaded kittens on the front porch of grandparents house, and another long list of 30 other things I won't name, but then I am the bad guy for thinking someone poisoned my unattended beer at the neighborhood bar with no cameras after I get home and have 3 teeth and my stomach hurting all at the same time.   • People are obviously going to cringe at this, But All this teaching on intent is really just The foundation of Christian principles that Christ came to display to the world. Grace-free and unmerited favor, doing something freely without the expectation of payback. -quid pro quo is the economy of the world. No person is capable of unconditional love without something worldly attached to it whether it be pride, greed, acceptance, meaning, or purpose.. Christ came to show grace And no one is able to give grace or show grace outside of a relationship with Christ himself. Because He ultimately frees us from oursleves by giving himself to us. So HE becomes our INTENT. That is what is meant by (Christ shall set us free) When he is your acceptance, Your meaning, and your hope You're now free to give GRACE. To love unconditionally because you no longer have to compete with the world because Christ gives himself too us freely If we repent and trust in Christ. So we all have some self-awareness problems....

    • Not cringy to me at all. It’s true. It’s very difficult to avoid quid pro quo in friendships and in life. It can be done at times but life demands both.
