Considering the hardware of the day, BF 1942 did pretty good. And probably ran great in 2004 when the 8800gt came out.

@@Nick930 HaHa! Pretty sure that's where the meme came from! I still have an old BFG Tech 7800GTS. AGP, 256MB version! It never ran Crysis either. It's a long way from my GTX 1080. And I just installed BF V last night. Doubt it will run on the 7800 or the 8800!

1942 was a system crusher in 2002, and the modding potential made it even better. The team that did desert warfare was brought on to work on BF2, back when DICE was concerned with making video games fun instead of just playable B-roll.

In BF1942 when you shoot sandbags, the Sand will scatter out of it.

Lukis Milenar sandbads back then were literally walls with just sandbag texture, but I bf5 sandbags are incredibly realistic and reacts with the gameplay. They will scatter around if you blow them, it will scatter sand when you shot at it, and, they can be penetrated with the right caliber, and not caliber such as 9 mm etc

I ordered Battlefield 1942 so I can play it on my computer. There is still a decently big community playing the game online, its complicated to get the software and setup but its worth it.

And some things weren't technically possible when Battlefield 1942 came out... So comparing two games that are in the franchise but with a 16 year difference really doesn't make much sense, yes BF1942 was good and way ahead of it's time and yes BFV looks, plays and feels a lot better. They've learned a lot over the years (and also made very dumb discisions, but that's a whole different story) These "comparison" videos are total garbage and make zero sense...at all... It's like comparing a rotten apple to a freshly picked one, it's not fair, no matter how you look at it.

The Messerschmidt Bf-109 is a fighter , interceptor, light dive bomber. While Junker Ju 87 Stuka is clearly meant for dive bombing only.... (Though dog fights are possible)

Vanilla 1942 was pretty basic as per your vid but the MODs such as Forgotten Hope added much more vehicles and armies and many many more highly detailed and developed maps. You also had offline bot mode so was great for practice or if your internet wasn't great, or just to play a large scale battle without annoying morons trolling you in game. I also think they should slow down the movement of the new ones. It's too much a twitch shooter now. Like Benny Hill on speed. I've not bought BF V yet as there are so many bugs and so little content. I've just bought Battlefront II for £10 ...about a whole year after it came out. Only now has it interested me and there's a new update patch with a new game mode. So finally worth my time. Maybe in a year I'll buy BF V depending on how it goes. Was so disappointed in BF V as I was especially looking forward to the return to it's WWII roots. Ended up with a COD style mess that was broken and more like a bad beta version of a demo they decided to sell.

I appreciate the effort in making this video, but I think it would've been much more interesting to know about changes to gameplay mechanics rather than the obvious and superficial audiovisual improvements. You only make passing comments about how the classes and vehicles changed, but I think they deserved more than just a couple seconds worth of mentioning.

I think there should be a game mode where all weapons are restricted to factions for more realism. Like in Batlefield 1's back to basics mode execpt you can enjoy all weapons from a certain team, from a particular year. For example, a map that is set in 1940 can't feature an Stg 44... But it can feature an mp 40 and you can use it if you're a German.

One huge difference everybody always forgets about is tracers. Even the tanks in BF1942 didn't show their projectile flying across the map.

You can actually have physical projectiles and tracers for all the ballistic weapons as the tanks do fire projectiles..... it just this was not done back in 2002 because a majority of PCs back then would just implode as a result. Mods for BF1942 have actually added this mechanic tho along with other fun things like rag doll physics and iron sights to just name a couple. You have to keep in mind that in 2002 BF1942 a monster of a game that required a pretty beefy rig to run due to the sheer scale of the games online maps and matches.

man i loved 1942, played that with my brother for many years. hated when they got to Vietnam game time. Don't think i'll get V though, i have nostalgia for '42 and i don't think simply having a new version will recreate the same level of fun I had with simpler but fine graphics for the time.

There’s one thing that never changes though. Easter Eggs. If you go up high enough in a plane in 1942, then get out, but don’t pull your parachute, eventually, if you fall for long enough you’ll hear your character... crap their pants... yeah.

the tiger tank in bf 1942 is the tiger 1 model during the Africa campaign in early ww2 and the tiger in bf 5 is of that during the campaign to take russia they put Zimmerit on the tanks to disrupt the magnetic impulse so the mines couldnt attach to them thought this would be a nice addition to add

1942 and Vietnam will always be the most realistic games in the series seeing as their maps were all based off of actual battles during their respective wars. I credit those two games as a big reason to why I'm a bit of a history buff now. I played the hell out of both of them growing up and researched most of the maps for info. Pretty amazing how much accuracy was put into them both for it being the early 2000's

@@boomerncheeze That doesnt make any sense.. All maps in BFV were actual battles aswell.. Just because they are not that popular (compared to Omaha Beach or The Ardennes) doesnt mean they are fictional. BF V is an amazing game with and a lot of fun to play. Just like any other BF game has been.

I hoped that the classes would be job based like pilot, tank crew, explosives expert, engineer and then you'd have map specific like ship officer, artilliary/mortar crew, scuba diver and such. It would make the game more challenging and would really be squad oriented...nowadays most people pick assualt, the rest snipers and a couple of medics

1942 and silent hunter 2 were my first two games I ever played. I LOVED THEM and wish that they would be re-done to match current technical specs. Also the older star wars games Kotor 1&2 would be welcome remasters

@@bbcmotd The short range reflex is called the Nydar Reflex sight People were complaining that BF1 didn't have good weapon customization, now the fact that you can put a reflex sight is considered horrible, when the sights existed and BF has always featured rare and prototype weapons, gadgets and vehicles

Ponderous Panda lol BF1 was never too WW1. It was too arcady. Muzzle velocity was far too quick and snipers had barely any bullet drop. Guns also never jammed and had quick rates of fire. Maps barely allowed any tactical gameplay and it was just a grenade fuck fest. It wasn't at all WW1. BFV isn't at all WW2. Battlefield has been proudly a game with historical accuracy but they just made too many fictious errors without addressing that this game is entirely fictious, instead they just defended themself on social media by calling others "uneducated". Previously BF games had realistic campaigns that could be visualised done in reality also because they're modern too. They should've used female russian snipers for a female lead in a war story. Overall the context of BFV and it's controversy ruins the game. The problem with BFV is it's too political. I want to enjoy a game, not be indoctrinated by lies to support an agenda. Women weren't on front lines for allies. They didn't wear blue makeup. No one had prosthetics like the game and fought. The game is not deserving of a Battlefield title. It's a good game but not a Battlefield game. Like NFS MW 2012. Its a good game but a shit NFS game. It's not deserving of that title especially the MW part.

I still play BF1942 (modded ofc) at least once per week. I'd definitely love to have destructible environment and better lighting, sounds etc. And especially the infantry gameplay is way better in newer BF titles but for people who like the vehicle aspect more (like myself) I'd say BF1942 has the edge. That was also the part that was barely mentioned in the video.

Think about the old battlefronts vs the disaster the new ones were. Amazing graphics and sound, horrible, horrrible money grab. Movies are the same too. We got all the special fx down pat, but no one can write an original story.

1942 was a system crusher in 2002, and the modding potential made it even better. The team that did desert warfare was brought on to work on BF2, back when DICE was concerned with making video games fun instead of just playable B-roll.
It's sad you totally missed the naval combat from BF1942. It has submarines, carriers, destroyers and other ships and all can be controlled.
But BFV does not have these things so how could he compare? All he could really say is what i just said, that they are now absent.

In BF1942 when you shoot sandbags, the Sand will scatter out of it.
Lukis Milenar sandbads back then were literally walls with just sandbag texture, but I bf5 sandbags are incredibly realistic and reacts with the gameplay. They will scatter around if you blow them, it will scatter sand when you shot at it, and, they can be penetrated with the right caliber, and not caliber such as 9 mm etc

I ordered Battlefield 1942 so I can play it on my computer. There is still a decently big community playing the game online, its complicated to get the software and setup but its worth it.

And some things weren't technically possible when Battlefield 1942 came out... So comparing two games that are in the franchise but with a 16 year difference really doesn't make much sense, yes BF1942 was good and way ahead of it's time and yes BFV looks, plays and feels a lot better. They've learned a lot over the years (and also made very dumb discisions, but that's a whole different story) These "comparison" videos are total garbage and make zero sense...at all... It's like comparing a rotten apple to a freshly picked one, it's not fair, no matter how you look at it.

The Messerschmidt Bf-109 is a fighter , interceptor, light dive bomber. While Junker Ju 87 Stuka is clearly meant for dive bombing only.... (Though dog fights are possible)

Vanilla 1942 was pretty basic as per your vid but the MODs such as Forgotten Hope added much more vehicles and armies and many many more highly detailed and developed maps. You also had offline bot mode so was great for practice or if your internet wasn't great, or just to play a large scale battle without annoying morons trolling you in game. I also think they should slow down the movement of the new ones. It's too much a twitch shooter now. Like Benny Hill on speed. I've not bought BF V yet as there are so many bugs and so little content. I've just bought Battlefront II for £10 ...about a whole year after it came out. Only now has it interested me and there's a new update patch with a new game mode. So finally worth my time. Maybe in a year I'll buy BF V depending on how it goes. Was so disappointed in BF V as I was especially looking forward to the return to it's WWII roots. Ended up with a COD style mess that was broken and more like a bad beta version of a demo they decided to sell.
I appreciate the effort in making this video, but I think it would've been much more interesting to know about changes to gameplay mechanics rather than the obvious and superficial audiovisual improvements. You only make passing comments about how the classes and vehicles changed, but I think they deserved more than just a couple seconds worth of mentioning.

I think there should be a game mode where all weapons are restricted to factions for more realism. Like in Batlefield 1's back to basics mode execpt you can enjoy all weapons from a certain team, from a particular year. For example, a map that is set in 1940 can't feature an Stg 44... But it can feature an mp 40 and you can use it if you're a German.
There would have to be a lot more weapons in the game but yeah it does seem kinda odd when you're playing on the US and are killed by a Japanese soldier with an M1 Garand.

Battlefield 1942 is more historically accurate
One huge difference everybody always forgets about is tracers. Even the tanks in BF1942 didn't show their projectile flying across the map.
You can actually have physical projectiles and tracers for all the ballistic weapons as the tanks do fire projectiles..... it just this was not done back in 2002 because a majority of PCs back then would just implode as a result. Mods for BF1942 have actually added this mechanic tho along with other fun things like rag doll physics and iron sights to just name a couple. You have to keep in mind that in 2002 BF1942 a monster of a game that required a pretty beefy rig to run due to the sheer scale of the games online maps and matches.

the tiger tank in bf 1942 is the tiger 1 model during the Africa campaign in early ww2 and the tiger in bf 5 is of that during the campaign to take russia they put Zimmerit on the tanks to disrupt the magnetic impulse so the mines couldnt attach to them thought this would be a nice addition to add

1942 and Vietnam will always be the most realistic games in the series seeing as their maps were all based off of actual battles during their respective wars. I credit those two games as a big reason to why I'm a bit of a history buff now. I played the hell out of both of them growing up and researched most of the maps for info. Pretty amazing how much accuracy was put into them both for it being the early 2000's

I hoped that the classes would be job based like pilot, tank crew, explosives expert, engineer and then you'd have map specific like ship officer, artilliary/mortar crew, scuba diver and such. It would make the game more challenging and would really be squad oriented...nowadays most people pick assualt, the rest snipers and a couple of medics

Previously BF games had realistic campaigns that could be visualised done in reality also because they're modern too. They should've used female russian snipers for a female lead in a war story. Overall the context of BFV and it's controversy ruins the game. The problem with BFV is it's too political. I want to enjoy a game, not be indoctrinated by lies to support an agenda. Women weren't on front lines for allies. They didn't wear blue makeup. No one had prosthetics like the game and fought. The game is not deserving of a Battlefield title. It's a good game but not a Battlefield game. Like NFS MW 2012. Its a good game but a shit NFS game. It's not deserving of that title especially the MW part.
Just pointing out you compared 2 types of different aircraft. In 1942 you compared the BF109 to the Stuka and the Stuka has a siren system in it
I still play BF1942 (modded ofc) at least once per week. I'd definitely love to have destructible environment and better lighting, sounds etc. And especially the infantry gameplay is way better in newer BF titles but for people who like the vehicle aspect more (like myself) I'd say BF1942 has the edge. That was also the part that was barely mentioned in the video.
I have both games and strong pc build but I rather to play Battlefield 1942.

Oryan X11 campaign wasn't bad with that game. The game itself wasn't bad, the fact they held MW3 remaster as hostage is utter shit and the fact that people were tired of sci fi shooters. The game not so bad. Had a good variety and a likeable robot

Planes are more interesting to play with in 1942 and required a lot of skill since you cant go low to the ground because of planes in 1942 are very fragile. Unlike the self healing BS that last two battlefields offered .

@@TheScure Shoot, you can't hardly find many games for BF1 on the PC. BFV will likely be the same in a year. The problem with these new games, is they're all eye candy, but gameplay is lost. Think about the old battlefronts vs the disaster the new ones were. Amazing graphics and sound, horrible, horrrible money grab. Movies are the same too. We got all the special fx down pat, but no one can write an original story.
@@thedave1602 It was worse on xbox. Past Conquest and TDM almost no servers to be found ater only one year. All older DLC's were also under populated and didn't blend well whatsoever.
Bf1942 has like 10x more players than hardline and that was only released a few years ago. And bfv is just hardline 2.
And who doesn't hate war..? Except weapon producers? And you don't need to be clueless about history to like BFV. I feel I know a bit about WW2 history and still love BFV. I know there wasn't a young woman who blew up the heavy water factory at Vemork for example, I just know the difference of a historical documentary and a video game in a WW2 setting.

Battlefield 1942 soundtrack is legendary.
To be honest, I never even noticed the shell ejecting system of the firearms such as 1911 etc, I guess Im just to focused in the moment lol.
Battlefield V obviously looks better but it’s also unnecessarily hard to see things and even almost 17 years ago 1942 got that right
BF5 has great graphics... but thats basically it.
I preffer the landed planes and tanks already there. I think its cooler to sneak past the enemy steal either their planes or both the plane and base
So the first 8 Minutes are basically "This looks better than a 16 year old game"
