If you ever go as far as trying to achieve some NA power from the M54 I'd love to see you take on an N54b30 intake manifold swap, theres limited info out there but its supposed to give some considerable gains of around 30-40bhp

  • I always run 99 ron on mine as there’s noticeable difference in throttle response, engine feels more lively in general, plus fuel consumption is noticeably lower too. Around here tesco momentum is more consistent than vpower so is recommended by tuners.

I've only had my E46 325Ci for a few weeks and fixing quite a few mechanical issues with it too, so it's good to be able to fix/update the software as well. Cheers!!

    • The updated files are part of the download. The youtube video i link to in the description has the link to the tools you download. If you follow that videos guideline(install the tools) then they are part of it. This part is what confused me as well before downloading the tools(with the updates included) as i already had winkfp before but when i tried using the version i already had it wouldnt show me a possible update to my existing tune. But once i installed his tool(winkfp and inpa) i could do the updtate. Its really easy to do so once you follow the video i linked to in the description

  • Thank you. I love your scientific approach to car tuning. This is how it's done! I wish more people would follow your example instead of trusting butt dyno. Are you going to attempt adjusting ignition table manually? There maybe couple of degrees timing hidden in the safety margin.

      @OEMplusRESTO@OEMplusRESTO6 ай бұрын
  • While I cannot comment about the software update making a difference performance wise (though it would make sense to have further optimizations), I can confirm that there is a difference between the RON rating simply by looking in the ignition timing maps in the DME -> there are two of them, one for 95, one for 99. And, as expected, the 99 one has slightly more aggressive timing. So, people saying that the engine runs the same with either fuel are simply wrong. Even if you don't necessarily feel that difference, the DME adjusts ignition parameters differently.

A friend showed me you can buy an electric siphon pump for this exact purpose for like 20 euros. I'm gonna get one for sure. Anyways, great video like always! • I always struggle with pouring fuel on manually lol. Thank you for the tip:) I dont know how to find out if its tuned or not, or how well it was done. But i have shown here that bmw’s latest tune for the m54b30 is super consistent and also adjusts well to fuel quality. So maybe you could do the same test as i did and see if you get the same results? If not, its either a poor tune or no tune at all.

  • Great video, I was just about to do the same on my e46. If I understand correctly, you have to update the DME version one by one up to the latest version, did you hook up external power to the battery during the update?

    @wot48320@wot483206 ай бұрын
    • Hi. Not one by one no. In short, you “just” launch winkfp and choose your DME. Then it will itself find the latest tune made by bmw for it, and update it, if you choose so. But it does that 2 times before its done. The 2 times you see it loading 0-100% is normal and requiered. Its probably the full and partial binary it uploads to the dme but this is just a guess

  • Very interesting, I am wondering though if this is because in doing this you are resetting the throttle adaptations? I know on the non M E46's, the throttle adapts itself to your driving style. Over time, with enough combinations of hard/gentle driving, the throttle is no longer at a 1/1 ratio. The only way to get it back (temporarily, without a tune) is to reset the throttle adaptations. Most owners I've met notice a very big difference after doing this, although it only lasts a few days until the adaptations change again. I would like to know if after a few weeks you still notice these faster times

    @skyward3107@skyward31076 ай бұрын
    • Thats a very good question. Is it just adaptions? Well. I dont know! The only thing i know is that i give it full throttle for the test. So unless adapted full throttle isnt full throttle really, the results SHOULD be the same. But again. I havent actually tested it. But during 10-15 runs to get the 10 verfied runs it didnt seem to get slower What do you think? Is the full throttle perhaps not really full throttle after a while?

      @OEMplusRESTO@OEMplusRESTO6 ай бұрын
    • @@OEMplusRESTO Thanks for coming back. I think the best answer is - time will tell. I know the throttle adaptations are fairly slow to change especially when you have only just reset them. See how it is after a months time :) By the way - I've only just come across your channel - great content! Fellow E46 owner here who loves working on M54's

  • my 330ci was produced in may 2000, it came as euro 2 car, in car registration papers it's listed as 172kw car, while normal ones are 170, and US spec are 168kw. drove euro 2 and 3 car, butt dyno felt as euro 2 was bit more peppy and eager to go, but in this realm it's too easy to get some false positives. Also long time ago car served me extremely well so i decided to reward it with some Shell premium fuel and car ran like shit, loss of power and idled bad. no obd2 codes and couldn't find problems, but when i used all my expensive fuel and went back to cheap one car ran great again.
