In this video, I show you how I hand tool a large basket weave patten. Over the last number of years, this type of tooling has been very popular. I started doing it last year on a few projects and customers seem to really like it.
This is a very simple process and looks fantastic.
Here is a link to the full saddle build video that I mention in the video:

  • Cool pattern. Your ruler is a "scale". We were taught to never use your scale as a straight edge. We'd get chewed out by our crew bosses if caught. But that's for draftsman and engineers.

  • I've been using this pattern for a while now but I used a hair blade instead of a lined pare shader. Next time I'll try my vertical lined pare shader. I like the look of yours. It can be very confusing on a larger scale. Lots of beveling in opposing directions. Thanks for all the tips and tricks.

  • I can see very well why people were giving you high praise as a magician at the Waco convention! Could you provide a link for the edge beveler that you used please? Leatherworking novice, so I am looking to get as much info as possible. Thank you much, and I will absolutely try this out as soon as I get my hands on a decent piece of marble!

  • Hello Mr. Gonsales, I would be very grateful if you would put the templates for the saddles on sale. Many people want to learn the trade and we do not know how to make the saddle, since there is a lot of complexity and it does not come out the first time and many of us are inexperienced in the exact or correct measurements. what should i wear the frame 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 1 Responder

    • Well because there is alot of complexity and each horse is different. Templates are not going to be much help in making a properly fitted saddle.
