You need a fixed constant to measure the variables. Doing a free drop of the balls from the same height and then measuring the maximum height when it bounces up or time taken between two touches will be more accurate. You need to also consider whether the size or circumference of the ball would also play a part in its bounciness./ elasticity. Edit: I'm just trying to guide the boy in easy simple to understand steps.

To my understanding, bounciness is about the acceleration in the upward direction when coming in contact with the ground, yet you measured the time in air. Air resistance is a big factor, so I feel this bounciness test isn’t very accurate because golf balls are made with aerodynamics in mind. You should do another test but use a photo gate or velocity measuring device.

This does not explain why the moon ball and the bouncy ball had the exact same time. Yes, both balls experience the same force of gravity, but each ball might have a different amount of "bounciness", and he couldn't have bounced each one with exactly the same force. It was just a coincidence that they had the same airtime. And like @johannabonana5306 said, the golf ball!
@natto94585 ай бұрын
Gravity accelerates everything at the same speed Which would mean 2 things, dropped from the same height, would hit the ground at the same time with no air resistance Since air resistance is negligible for dense, spherical objects, you can use the formula height= (4.9× 1/2 time squared) to solve for peak bounce height from time taken to bounce. Therefore, the golf ball bounced higher than the standard bouncy ball and the moon ball. this test is inaccurate because we do not know if the initial throwing speed was consistent. As for *why*a ball bounces higher than another, that's advanced physics with elasticity and spring coefficients. Basically, some balls can just more efficiently preserve their kinetic energy after a collision, which equates to a higher bounce from the same starting force

You need a fixed constant to measure the variables. Doing a free drop of the balls from the same height and then measuring the maximum height when it bounces up or time taken between two touches will be more accurate. You need to also consider whether the size or circumference of the ball would also play a part in its bounciness./ elasticity. To my understanding, bounciness is about the acceleration in the upward direction when coming in contact with the ground, yet you measured the time in air. Air resistance is a big factor, so I feel this bounciness test isn’t very accurate because golf balls are made with aerodynamics in mind. You should do another test but use a photo gate or velocity measuring device.

to be truly accurate, you need to ensure that you are using the exact same force when bouncing both balls. The velocity upon ground impact needs to be the exact same.

This seems accurate but could you do one with a machine that can throw the same just to remove the variable of force? This is still awesome tho
Yes and the angles would be slightly different between throws as well
