    • Karen was a natural. She didn’t need singing lessons. She didn’t win on American Idol. She was the opposite of how Brittney Spears got her start. Karen was born to sing and make people happy. But she was only human and a terrible illness took her away from us too early. But now she’s in Heaven singing to the all the spirits, Angels and to God. She will forever be the greatest voice for eternity!

    • I've always known that my whole life since I first heard Karen's voice probably around 1972 and I was still a kid. Nice to feel validated by those legends. True music lovers "get it" about how special Karen's voice was, as Richard said it was "perfect in every way". So beautiful and mature and effortless right from such a young age. There will never be another voice like hers in our lifetime.

  • In 1970, I was 6 years old. This was my mother's favorite song and she used to sing it to me whenever it came on the radio. She told me that this song reminded her of me. Her words made me feel special, loved and invincible! A mother's words can give a child the power to be anything! That is what my mother gave me. In a few short months, I will be 60 years old and far removed from the days when this song was on the radio. When I was 6, I would often wonder what my life would be like at age 30, and what kind of adult I might be. And, here I am today, well past 30 and barely able to look into a rear view that is nothing more than a mixed bag of tragedy and joy. But, it also makes me think about where we are today and I wonder if any of us have truly moved forward. And then, I think how I would trade my best day today for my worst day back then. How, with all of our technical advancements and modern gadgets, I still prefer the simplicity of the '70s. A time when my mother's smile felt like a warm and safe blanket. It's funny how much one song can affect a person. I don't think children today have it like we did. That's what I think, but I sincerely hope that I am wrong.

Karen inherited her mother's obsessive compulsive traits and reacted to the one flaw her family could clearly identify in her. She was prone to weight gain. The only thing the industry contributed was probably her expanded access to weightloss drugs she should never have been prescribed. Much like Elvis.

  • In the July, summer of 1970, I was 13 and camping with my family at Royal Gorge Colorado. My dad had a portable transistor radio. We were kicking back to a campfire, dark skies and the stars, and then this song comes along. I was literally born again. Then I really did not have a taste for any pop music, but this voice in the dark, captivated my heart. I learned the words to the song, believing that this was the essence of the song. In my days now, it is more than clear, its the singer, not the song. The voice, not the words as they were now and today, hauntingly beautiful.
