K-pop superstars Blackpink have emerged as the latest force in the global fight against climate change.
The all-female group, who have billions of fans around the world, have decided to speak out just months before a major conference on climate change will be held in Britain.
They said a documentary, fronted by Sir David Attenborough helped them learn more about what they can do to help ‘sustain our beautiful planet’.
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has written to thank them for supporting the UN Climate Summit known as COP26.

    • Maybe k pop artists should sing more about the occupation of america in South Korea and russia in North Korea and sing about 1945 more when america and Russia divided Korea and created north and South Korea For centuries before 1945, Korea had been a unified political entity. The origins of the modern division of Korea trace to the period of Japan's colonial rule over Korea (1910-1945). During World War II, the Allied leaders fighting Japan considered the question of Korea's future after Japan's surrender in the war. The leaders reached an understanding that Korea would be liberated from Japan but would be placed under an international trusteeship until the Koreans would be deemed ready for self-rule. Beyond this rather vague agreement, much about the future of Korea was left uncertain.[1]: Closeup of the Korean Demilitarized Zone that surrounds the Military Demarcation Line The Korean Peninsula was divided along the 38th parallel north from 1945 until 1950 and along the Military Demarcation Line from 1953 to present. Therefore, the division of Korea began in earnest at the end of the war in 1945 with the occupation of Korea by the Allied forces that defeated Japan. According to an understanding reached between the United States and the Soviet Union in the last days of the war, Soviet troops would occupy the parts of Korea north of the 38th parallel and US troops would occupy those south of this dividing line. In line with this understanding, Soviet troops took over northern Korea in August 1945 and US troops occupied southern Korea in September 1945.[1]:37-45 An implicit assumption behind this division of Korea into two occupation zones was that this was only a temporary arrangement until the wartime agreement on the Korean trusteeship could be implemented, leading to the establishment of a unified Korean state over the entire peninsula. Subsequently, the Moscow Conference of Foreign Ministers in December 1945 resulted in an agreement on a Korean trusteeship lasting up to five years. However, with the onset of the Cold War and other factors both international and domestic, including Korean opposition to the trusteeship, negotiations between the United States and the Soviet Union over the next two years regarding the implementation of the trusteeship failed, thus effectively nullifying the only agreed-upon framework for the re-establishment of an independent and unified Korean state.[1]:45-154 With this, the Korean question was referred to the United Nations. In 1948, after the UN failed to produce an outcome acceptable to the Soviet Union, UN-supervised elections were held in the US-occupied south only. The American-backed Syngman Rhee won the election, while Kim Il-sung consolidated his position as the leader of Soviet-occupied northern Korea. This led to the establishment of the Republic of Korea in South Korea on August 15, 1948, promptly followed by the establishment of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in North Korea on September 9, 1948. The United States supported the South, the Soviet Union supported the North, and each government claimed sovereignty over the whole Korean peninsula. In 1950, after years of mutual hostilities, North Korea invaded South Korea in an attempt to re-unify the peninsula under its communist rule. The subsequent Korean War, which lasted from 1950 to 1953, ended with a stalemate and has left the two Koreas separated by the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) up to the present day. On April 27, 2018, during the 2018 Inter-Korean Summit, the Panmunjom Declaration for Peace, Prosperity and Reunification of the Korean Peninsula was adopted between the Supreme Leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-un and the President of South Korea, Moon Jae-in. Later that same year, following the September Inter-Korean Summit, several actions were taken toward reunification along the border, such as the dismantling of guard posts and the creation of buffer zones to prevent clashes. On 12 December 2018, soldiers from both Koreas crossed the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) into the opposition countries for the first time in history.[2][3

  • So many roasters on these comments. Such simpleton sheep. Ppl can still agree that climate change needs a solution fast yet still be allowed to be critical of the different methods that we try to spread awareness of the issue. Many pragmatic people with balanced opinions here are pointing out the obvious it’s nothing but empty rhetoric when a rich, affluent pop group with expensive designer clothes whose livelihoods depend on flying around the world to play concerts are lecturing people about climate change. It’s nothing but empty, condescending rhetoric. Anyone can sit themselves in front of a camera, sit on a couch and talk about the dangers of climate change. They’re hardly doing anything revolutionary, especially when the information already exists everywhere to read on the internet and more importantly from scientists. Nothing but a glorified, clout chasing understatement from Black Pink. In the future if black pink need to walk on foot or horse and carriage to reach destinations for their gigs then so be it especially when a majority of the planet will have to sacrifice the way we choose to live when it comes to trying to be sustainable and reduce emissions and carbon footprint, ie using public transport or cycling more instead of driving cars to get to work etc. This will more than likely affect poorer communities living in deprivation working on minimum wage. The same principle should apply to these sanctimonious pop stars. Its pathetic many of you need to rely on getting your info about climate change from venerating celebrities and pop stars, you must be proper honkin ya cretins. Let the scientists spread the facts and do the talking and learn to be more critical in life. We can still agree on the same issues whilst questioning peoples motives. I agree that we need to save the planet from the catastrophic consequences of climate change but the BBC are approaching it in the wrong way. Black pink aren’t being genuine. They’re being contradictory. Hypocrites. Double standards.

These artists which promote being anti-climate-change do nothing but help create a massive Carbon footprint day by day!
