Finally, be the star of commuter traffic! Make all the kids in the neighbourhood happy! Or just jealous! Engage in inspiring discussions with chemtrail believers! With the wind-driven Bicycle Bubble Machine drawing a dense stream of soap bubbles behind you, you too can bring peace and happiness back to the streets!
The Bicycle Bubble Machine (www.thingiverse.com/thing:950452) is a bubble machine attached to the luggage rack of your bike. I actually found bicycle-mounted bubble machines on the net, but they all run on batteries, neglecting the fact that on our bikes we have a source of energy which is much more sustainable and fun: relative wind. The Bicycle Bubble Machine only uses the relative wind created by riding your bicycle: a wind wheel will turn a wheel with bubble wands, which are blown directly by the relative wind. It works surprisingly well at a comfortable range of speeds, and with the funny, jet-engine look the machines have, when one is attached to every side of your bike, it's an eyecatcher. Well, at least it gave me a lot of strange looks when using it on the street.
Song: I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles, Elliott Shaw & Charles Hart, 1919

  • What's better than watching you ride around making bubbles? Watching people's reaction to the bubbles. Most people are going to be far more pleased watching the little girls chase you than by watching you ride miles through the city. We all would love to see you redo this video, focusing on people's reactions.

    • 12centuries Yes, I understand this, I think you're right and I actually thought about it, too. This is why I didn't: - the video was made because I participated in an engineering contest, so it was supposed to show the invention - if I'd directly film the people's reactions themselves, by german law I would have to get an approval by every one of them -- I know many people ignore this, but as I'm working as a city court judge in my hometown, I just can't afford to ignore this; the children seen chasing me are mine and my sister's - the video was taken in a rush on a sunday morning because the contest deadline closed the same day - I'm just not pro enough to do a real take on the task you mention, I was glad when I finished this in time

    • Jost Schenck In that case, you did a great job! I hope you won the contest.

    • Jost Schenck Wie schaut es denn aus wenn Sie einen Platz bzw. einen öffentlichen Ort filmen und nicht direkt die Reaktion der Leute?

      @Aisbaer@Aisbaer8 жыл бұрын
    • Ais baer Hinsichtlich des öffentlichen Ortes ist es bislang kein Problem, obwohl gegenwärtig geplantes EU-Recht diesbezüglich in der Zukunft Probleme machen könnte. Soweit Personen nicht direkt gefilmt sind, sondern lediglich als sogenanntes "Beiwerk" in den Blick geraten, obwohl die Kamera erkennbar etwas ganz anderes filmt und darauf den Schwerpunkt liegt, tritt das Recht am eigenen Bild regelmäßig zurück, so dass keine Einwilligung eingeholt werden muss. Deshalb haben wir die Kamera nicht direkt auf die Reaktionen der Leute gehalten.

  • How long do you get bubbles for?

    @rsokors@rsokors8 жыл бұрын
    • rsokors Depends on your speed. As it makes a lot of bubbles right now, for me it hardly lasts for more than 10 minutes. One guy who built it changed my original plans to have only half the bubble wands, so it makes not as many bubbles and will last longer (you find that changes on thingiverse, section "remixes").
