  • Nice build. Could save some elbow room by placing the pump on top?

    • Yeah on my third build which I posted a couple days ago I went back to air/hydraulic. Cylinder retracts so much faster for some reason. The new build I posted a couple days ago is by far my favorite design so far. Will keep building and tweaking every time. But the new design is very close to being perfect for what I like.

    • I sourced most of the new steel from left overs from local salvage place...had about $300 in the steel. The roller were amazon like $20 for 10 so have enough for 2 more presses. The pump and cylinder were like $460 Vevor brand and the hoist was $130 Vevor brand. Saw blades annular cutters cutting fluid and misc hardware were approximately another $300. The casters were another salvage find got a great deal on them. The cable I already didnt use the original the cable clamps I already had. The I beams were 6x6 with 3/8 flange the top and bottom plate were 1/2 flange so I doubled them up with 1/2 plate for 1" total thickness. It was just over 6ft tall and the legs were 32" wide to be able to fit through most doorways. The total width of press was 4ft with 3ft table and roughly 24" of horizontal travel. The plate the ram pushes against was layered 1/2 plate to total of 2" thickness with the front cover plate and back cover plate 1/2 thick welded on a 90° to bolt the roller wheels to. Roller wheels also Amazon for like $15 or something. All in I figure I was around $1000 because even though it was slightly more than that I have things left over that I will not have to buy for the next press. Which I plan on starting soon. Got a big belt grinder Im refurbishing and when its done will start on the next press. It will be a little different design. Saw an Enerpac design that I really like and I believe will be a little easier to build.

    • Oh and the pins for the table also slavage. They were pins from catwalks for oil platforms. Dont remember length on those but cut to be symmetrical same out the back as was out the front.

    • The press plates were just 1x3 bar stock that were cut same width as press table which I think was 12" total. 6" working gap and 3" flange on both sides.
