  • Haha the cutest coach-player relationship I've seen. They're never breaking up

    • I think they only just got back together in recent months. They split in 2018 after her 2017 US Open win. Regardless of the reason I feel like she needs to stick with him because she is already being more consistent.

    • No because players with less talent and experience than Steven’s have a lot more fight than she does.

    • She wins a couple matches in a 250 tournament and now she’s supposed to win a Grandslam again (basically)

    • @@dblog It's not as if Sloane Stephens hasn't reached the grand stage of a RO final before; moreover, Sloane has shown throughout her career that she's a natural on clay. And hey, you gotta start somewhere! Take Casper Ruud for instance. Before this season, he hadn't won a title outside of a 250 tourney and people teased him (still do) for it. Yet, the man managed to reach back-to-back French Open finals (2022/2023). Small wins can lead to big ones.

  • Does anyone else feel like Sloane Stephens and Kamau Murray have a lil sis/big bro dynamic? Or maybe they're more of a cool uncle/niece duo? I just sense they treat each other like family. It's nice to see that camaraderie between players and coaches!

    • Yep, he’s less than 15 years older than Sloane is, so definitely big bro/lil sis

  • Sloane must be very challenging to coach because of her personality. She works hard only when she wants to and feels things very deeply so you have to be very thoughtful and sensitive to get the best out of her. She's strong on the outside and delicate on the inside. She values respect and loyalty more than winning. You can't push too much or she'll simply put up her walls.

    • What a fair and clear-sighted analysis you've typed here! I agree with your assessment. The players aren't robots. They're human beings who are navigating life just like everyone else.
