My cat used to meow like that, except he did it because he realised everyone found it adorable when he'd try to meow and no noise came out, so silent meows were more effective at grabbing everyone's attention. You could tell when he was meowing because he wanted attention because he'd meow silently, but when he wanted to be fed he made it very known

I just love how kittens’ purring is so loud - it’s like having a loving tractor wake you up❤ I wonder if the mechanism is working exactly the same throughout their lives but when they’re tiny the purr doesn’t have to travel through as much kitty to get to us

My lovely old chap Merlin used to meow just like this, we called him The Squeeker. Sometimes he would open his mouth and no sound would come out at all, just a breathy 'hah' 😂 This brought back some wonderful memories, thank you ❤

I had a little kitten who meowed like this and looked almost exactly like this one. He, sadly, passed away at barely a year old earlier this year. 😭

reminds me when i first got my last cat as a kitten, I'll never forget when I came back from washing my hands and he opened his mouth for a meow but nothing came out. I miss him lots.

Ugh, this is too cute. Reminds me so much of my rescue cat Oscar, he had a meow just like the first one, no matter how hard he tried he couldn’t meow any louder. Unfortunately he’s not with us anymore, but it makes me so happy to hear a meow like that again

The "silent" meows are actually at a frequency above our hearing range! I remember reading somewhere that cats do this higher frequency meow as a way to "ask a polite, low-urgency question," like politely asking for pets, or to politely ask what you're doing, for example.
