  • My cat somehow learned to mimic my daughters voice in the middle of the night. My daughter would wake up and say mama in a high pitched muffled voice. My cat learned that we'd jump out of the bed when we heard that sound. After a while, she'd make that exact sound in the middle of the night when she'd get bored and wanted attention. She'd actually make the sound a couple of times and change her pitch and when she had it right, she'd do it louder to wake us up. It was an amazing behaviour.

I immediately tried meowing at her and she started to make sounds almost right away. He was like "whaaaaaaat?!" 😆he also had no idea what the car was doing when I heat....that was weird. Lol I had never seen that before since all my cats had been spayed or fixed but I recognized the signs at least. Since she wasn't going to mate it actually would harm her to not get (spayed? • I adopted a cat based solely on her meowing like crazy at my front door. I'd seen her around for a week or so, little tortoiseshell female. Hell she even dropped me a dead mouse on my front door mat. Well one day she just started meowing LOUDLY at my front door, opened the door, she rubbed all up on me, I scratched her back. Opened the screen door, she bolted right in, went around and sniffed everything real good and then started rubbing on my legs again. Fed her a can of tuna(she ate it all lol) and gave her some water, after that she was MY KITTY. Laid on my lap, slept right next to my belly, pretty much she was literally attached to me for the next 48 hours or so until I left for work, every day after I came home from work she stuck to me like glue for that next week lol. Had no pets, ZERO intentions of getting another cat(I've had them in the past), yet here I am with a cat, I absolutely ADORE her.

  • I have had my first cat for a year now and she absolutely has a vocabulary of different meows. The funniest is the one for playing hide-and-seek. When she wants my attention, she will go down the hall, hide around a corner, and call me with "Maow...Maow...Maow.." until I come and then she leaps out at me with her paws outstretched, kind of a "Gotcha." She loves this game and will "get me" every time. The "maow?" with a question intonation means, "where are you?" when she's walking around looking for me. A friendly little "mrrrp" means "there you are, I was looking for you and now I found you." A demanding "Me-OW, Me-OW!" in the morning means, "Hey are you ever getting up?" An anxious "Mew! Mew! Mew!" means "feed me!" Like Jackson's kitty, she will "squeak" when it's treat time (she is trained to scratch on her scratching mat to get the treat - I'm trying to redirect her from scratching on the furniture.) Until I got this cat, I never knew they were so funny, and really do communicate with their humans.

  • One of our kitties has a certain "non-meow" that she always does when she's waiting for dinner. She'll open her mouth and make the formation that a meow should come out of, but it's totally silent. And she does it very deliberately, too. Of course, we always love on her and laugh and tell her what a sweet kitty she is when she does it, and then she always gets dinner, immediately after, so she's totally learned how to work that. It's just funny. She'll "meow" silently, and my husband and I will say in the most pitiful voice "she's... so......hungry...."

    • I'd guess that the "silent meow" is actually ultrasound. Cats hear it and can produce it, and humans can do neither. If it works with you, it works with you. One of my cats used to do that, and I cracked up and apparently didn't do what she wanted, so she eventually lowered the pitch into what I could hear.

  • It took a few weeks to gain my cat's trust when I first adopted him, so it was exciting when he first meowed while I was getting his dinner together. Now, we have a routine that as soon as I pick up his full plate and turn towards his eating spot, he'll trot ahead of me meowing the whole time until there's food in his mouth. We do this three times a day as he gets wet food. How he meows during this trot varies, so I look forward to seeing what he'll do each time. My favorite is when he lets out of a series of rapid squeaks, that's pretty cute.

  • I also have a talker (has been ever since she was a kitten) and sometimes we even hold two-sided conversations (at least I like to think that, I don't know what she's thinking) because she responds with her own "words" to literally anything I tell her. Most of her "vocabulary" consists of quiet meows, chirps and squeaks but when it's really urgent, she will yell at me from the top of her lungs (like when her food is 5 minutes late). The funny thing is that only I can understand what she is trying to say, the other family members are always asking how do I know what she wants (a bug on the ceiling, petting, food, treats, play and so on) but that's what happens if you form a very close bond with an animal so you don't even need words to understand them, you just look at them and know exactly what they need right now. Sometimes when she walks past me, she chirps just to acknowledge my presence as if saying "I know you're here". And sometimes she makes this funny worried noise when I sneeze or cough (it's between a squeak and a chirp) as if to ask if I'm alright.

    • I feel like my cats are broken; I wish my cats were more vocal especially since they’re young I figure now is when they’ll be the most talkative and then when they’re older they’ll cool down 😩 My boy just turned 1 and my girl is 2 going on 3 months- my boy is waiting for his neuter and my girl is still taking her vaccines and won’t get spayed until she’s gotten all of them according to the vets. Even when they have a set schedule for meals, and food is late, significantly late like 30-60 mins, cause I was stuck in traffic or I have to go to the storage closet on a different floor to get more food as I’ll be running low since that’s where I store all the back ups, they never meow. They meow more when they see me finish making their meals and are “begging” me to put it on the ground so they can eat it. That’s one of the few times they’re vocal and spin in a circle, never take their eyes off the bowl, will rub my legs, headbonk me and meows- like 27 meows a second lol. They do the same thing when I pull out their favorite-set-aside- for-special-occasion-toys and treats. Other than that the only time they distinctively meow is when I’m cleaning the litter and they need to go as I’m cleaning so I stop and they do their business. When we play with bubbles that’s the only time they do the “coo” noise. They have a special yell for each other when one cat can smell the other but can’t find them since we have a 3 floor house they run freely on between all the floors. The girl has a special “activation” noise when she’s sleeping and we wake her up- it’s like the drunkest noise a cat can make lmao. Any other meow or vocal noise outside these occasions are very rare. I’ve only ever heard my boy do the chirping sound twice! They’re still young so hopefully I can hear more from them. All my other cat friends are jealous my cats are so chill and behaved, meanwhile I wish they were more of the “one brain cell” type of cats 😂 I still love and cherish them though and try to secretly train them to be more vocal.

      @AdamIshak01@AdamIshak01 Жыл бұрын
    • @@AdamIshak01 Can cats even be trained to be vocal? I have had cats my whole life and some have been more vocal than the others but that's just their personality. Some are talkers while the others use their body language to get the message through (slow blinking, tail movements, pacing around the food bowl when asking to be fed and so on). Excessively vocal cats can be quite annoying occasionally, especially if they decide that it's time to talk in the middle of the night and you want to sleep. My late male cat (may he rest in peace) used to do that and it took many visits to the vet to find out that he was just bored and feeling lonely at night, so that's why he was super talkative at night (because at first I thought that there might be something wrong with him but all the tests came back clean and he was neutered so that wasn't an instinctive call out). It quickly resolved when I followed my vets recommendation of bringing his dinner to an earlier time(about an hour earlier than I usually did and that happened gradually by giving dinner 5 minutes earlier each day until we reached the desired dinner time) and have an intensive play session before dinner to tire him out so he would sleep through most of the night.

She meowed as a baby then stopped until she was much older. She still doesn't do it much, but when she does, they are very specific sounds with specific meanings. She can even ask me a couple of basic yes/no questions - and understand my answer. "Do you want to hang out?" or "You didn't forget that it's dinner time, did you?". Depending on how I answer, she'll either sit patiently and wait or get all excited and come running over to me. They're very polite meows and she never does the screaming or repetitive, begging meows. Most of her basic communication with me is done through eye contact and little trills/hums though. She also only purrs when she's kneading/sucking my blanket - which is a behavior she got from never being weaned from milk by her mother. She's a VERY sweet and affectionate cat, but she's very quiet most of the time. My other cat, Sushi purrs every time you touch her and she has a huge vocabulary of different meows - including one that's specifically an invitation for Mochi to come find and play with her. This is the only time I've seen a cat meow at another cat.

Instead, she'll use her front paws and make a begging gesture that's just the most adorable thing ever to let me know what she wants - generally to be picked up and petted. She'll do it also when faced with something that's frustrating her, like she wants to jump somwhere but it's unaccessible or something. • Definitely relationship based ... I was petting a cat and he meowed. His human said, "That means he wants you to stop petting him." Not my first time with a cat, but I was used to certain nonverbal signals for when to pet or not pet. Good thing his human was there to translate!

You just have to spend time with them. They understand our words and given time, it's not to hard to understand them.

And if someone takes him in hands ( if he ever lets someone take him in hands) he growls loudly and even raises a paw as if to scratch u on your face, but doesnt scratch. He allows to be touched ONLY when and IF he comes to u on his own volition. When he was smaller he was coming during night and was putting his head in my hand to start petting him. • I die laughing every time at one specific meow my cat does. When he wants to play and feels like he's been waiting long enough on me and my couch sitting nonsense (it's been 2 minutes of waiting, after all), he has one particular meow that truly sounds haughty, demanding and impatient. Every other meow sounds like a meow but this one is more like a short sound, he doesn't even finish it. Doesn't even really pretend to deign the situation with a real meow. I swear I have the most chill cat ever, but when he want to play him and his attitude mean business 😂😂😂

He helped me get mentally strong and has been an awesome friend for about 5 years. I took him to vet today and he needed an xray and I saw with horror the bullet still lodged in his back and the poorly healed femur fracture. • Hi everyone! The last time I spoke on here was last year I think, when I was still very much mourning our 19year old girl (who we still miss every day) & speaking of adopting elderly cats from shelters. It's taken a while to get used to the idea of another cat, Macy passed a year ago next week 😢 Four weeks ago we took in a young injured stray who was one of a few we'd been feeding for a while.. three & a half weeks ago we were surprised by three newborn kittens 😍 Think we're going to be keeping them all, as they have names now & seem so bonded it'd be wrong to separate the fam -it's so cute how mama Kali uses a different meow for us & the kits, especially as she never made a noise when she was visiting our yard previously ❤️ Hope all is good with everyone & their feline friends anyways x

  • It is weird, funny and cute at the same time that my cat really communicates with me in understandable pitches. For example, sometimes, when I ask certain things, he meows with a super short meow, which basically means "yes". I assume, he learned some of the words that I repeatedly said before and he puts those words in context with certain actions and therefore understands what I am asking. Those things are like "are you hungry/ do you want food?", "do you want to cuddle and go under the blanket"? (when I go to bed I certainly ask him, if he wants to join me, which he does then, extremely cute to have a cuddle bug, who goes to sleep when you go to sleep, love it). Just to name a few. Some meows, I do question and am not sure what they might mean, but some are clear as day. Cats are amazing. Sometimes, it feels like, when talking to my cat, he totally seem to understand what I am saying and acts accordingly. Priceless. oh and also, what I forgot to mention, is that instead of "NO" I accidently and instinctively said "uh uh!" too often when he was younger. I tried to add that "no" and it kinda works, but when I say no or uh uh, he repeats it after me and also says UH UH but in meow ish. He understands the command, but damn, did I mess up on that one!

  • Jackson, I'm very glad that I watched your videos before getting my two cats. I studied psychology in undergrad then went to law school, so interpreting how people behave is still a huge part of my job. I ended up adopting two littermates (a bro and a sis) and have had them for almost a year now. Time after time, people tell me how amazing my cats are and how they are not like any other cats they have ever met. I take time every day to play with them, to "chat" with them, and to give them new things to do as well as give them occasional treats. I'm glad I have had your guide to understand my pets, it has given me such a better understanding of how we can get the most out of each other. Again, thank you!

They also like to go into the bathroom to meow into the mirror or bathtub. Great acoustics in there 😹. I also had a cat that "changed" her meow to a tiny kitten meow when we brought one home! She doesn’t act her age. Her 3 sisters are more mellow. I think only one of her sisters are feeling the loss of their brother. She talks to herself on the screened front porch. We lost their mom in 2020 & their stepbrother in 2020. Dusty, the “Princess”, is feeling it. She came out white in a litter of 6. Mom was a gray tabby as were her 3 sister & 2 brothers (one stillborn brother). She acts differently than the others, runs around the house, runs up the big cat tree. She’s different for sure. She also does the Fleming Response by me, it’s extreme. She runs her tongue against the roof of her mouth making the strangest noise. She’s unique.

Well, now I know mealtime meow. I swear she has a built-in clock. Dinner is at 7:30 & around 7 she's already reminding me. I tell her she's too early & that she needs to wait a bit. She's happy I acknowledge & lays down. I've taught her how to sit while I get her bowl ready & she's so appreciative with head bonks, etc. Anyway, that's my two cents. Be well. • I am a cat person and have been since birth. I don't mind dogs and like them as well, but i don't click with them as i do with cats, it's almost like i have this natural understanding of a cat communicating with me. I almost never come across a cat that do not come up to me and say hi, be it a friends cat, or cats from a friend of a friend that i never seen before, even when they normally are shy towards other people. What i like the most about cats are their independency and the fact that it is on their terms, they will take no bullshit from you. And if you force pet them you will just generally ruin your relationship forever with them. But if you let them come on their own term and pace, you will have a very strong bond and relationship. I had a stronger bond to my friends cat than he did himself just because i understand these concepts and do not ever force anything with the cat. The bond you share with a cat is so incredibly strong. I can still to this day after nearly 10 years, get teary when i think about my late cat that we had to put down because of a rapidly growing throat cancer. I had never been as devastated as i was when we were at the veterinarian, but i knew it is better than the suffering he would endure barely being able to breathe. He was very old when it happened (17 years old), so he had almost no energy left.

    • What a poor baby- it looks like the right person adopted him because it’s a good thing you’re patient with him! That’s usually the sad part with some rescues because some people don’t try to gain their trust first and just expect the cats they got to just be happy after being adopted. Then they usually go back to the shelter cause the new owners are upset “it’s not a real cat” which sadly adds on to the trauma. Hopefully the longer he’s with you the more affectionate and calm he’ll be :) I don’t blame him for hating and not trusting humans- because same. She's mostly white, but with grey ears, nose, and tail.. and those bright blue eyes. She's also grew to be really big. She looks and acts exactly like a ragdoll - but with short hair. After doing some research, I found out that there was a ragdoll breeder a block away from our house. My theory is that one of the ragdoll toms escaped and got one of the ferals on our property pregnant.

  • Our cat taught us how to use the word "meow." To make a long story short, the first time it was raining when she wanted to go outside, she looked at me and said, "What the meow is that?" She ran to the other door, looked outside, and said, "That meowing stuff is coming down here too!" Ever since, we no longer use the "F" word. From now on we say something like "Everything is all meowed up." It is so much more polite and acceptable. Not only that, but other folks we've talked to like it so much, they started using it. So if someone tells you how meowed up the world is, it started here. 😉

  • It's true the feral kitties do meow for me and sing for supper unless hollering at eachother over territory. However, the indoor kitties trill at each other when they are playing... it's the cutest when the smaller one (4.5 months old) trills and charges at the other one (1.5 year old but trills too). 🤣🐈🎵🎶 LOL when I sing soulfully they both come running with purrs and rubs... makes me feel like Snow White. I mentioned before but forgot to mention the trilling. I try to trill but they are the masters. 🤣🥰 Yesss, we all love each other and have special communication among our trio. The two girls are amazingly different!

    @msbribri@msbribri Жыл бұрын
  • there is such a special connection you feel when your kitties just make a specific meow and you know what they mean it's like a secret language between you two, one of my cats is very clingy with me and sometimes when he loses me around the house he starts meowing very loudly and drops a low voice at the end kinda like "maOOOW?" you can even hear the question in his tone 😂😂 when I go out he kinda meows complaining that I'm getting ready to leave and when I come back he just screams with his tail up and starts smelling me all over, my orange cat is such a goof and loves being picked up by my brother so during the day he just randomly starts screaming at my brother to pick him up and as soon as he gets the cuddle he shuts up 😂😂

She'll say hello, and I'll reply in kind, causing continuous call and response, over and over. This usually happens when I return home after leaving for a few hours, and can go on for a good five minutes before she gets bored with it. • I was born in 94 and I know that commercial, LOL. 1 of my cats is VERY vocal. I've never had a cat that talks so much to me/at me (she's also a calico), her name is Pika. My husband and I have had her since the day she was born. I work from home- so Pika and I have a very special bond. She's sassy and she knows it. In the mornings she'll decide if she wants to be sweet or inpatient. She'll either sit by my face and put her nose on my nose to wake me up or she'll walk around my pillow walking as close as possible to my head ripping my hair out, lol, of she'll push the bedroom door open so it slams into the wall, so you wake up thinking something fell and broke, LOL. When it's getting close to lunch time she'll stand in between me and my monitors and just stare at me. or try to be cute and roll showing me her belly. She'll watch me get their lunch ready and when she knows when the water turns off it's ready so she'll start meowing like crazy leading me to where she wants her food. LOL. When it's time to go to bed she'll come with me to the bathroom and watch me brush my teeth. so recently, I started sitting on the ground petting her while I brush my teeth and I got her a cat tooth brush (she just brushes her face against it) but it's the cutest routine we've ever had. She knows right before bed she gets all the pets while I sit and brush my teeth, so she gets excited when nighttime comes around. She'll try to get me to follow her to the bathroom even, if I'm up later than normal insinuating "isn't time for us to go to the bathroom?" She's sassiest, sweetest, smartest thing ever and I love her so much.

But she’ll meow when I talk to her, meow when I pet her, meow when I’m doing nothing, meow in different rooms around the house for seemingly no reason. It’s strange but I love it about her!

  • Each of my cats has had calls of their own that meant different things but I did once hear a cat meow that definitely meant “I really need a human to help me!” It was the middle of the night so my cats were in but I got up, put some clothes on and went out to find the cat, telling it I was coming. Sure enough a big round striped dude with huge green eyes saw me and started giving me the urgent short meows. I picked him up and Purrrr. Turned out to be an indoor only cat who’d gotten out by accident. Anyone else hear that call? NOTE to indoor kitty guardians: dude didn’t have a tag or microchip so I took his photo while at my vet scanning for the absent chip and made posters that were posted and I was able to reunite him with his mom, who really loved him. But not all people are not going to take a stray to a vet, and few are likely to poster the neighbourhood, so tag and chip your baby so you can get them back. ❤️

  • When my younger boy, Espresso Bean, gets into his "tantrum/attention-seeking" meowing moments, I meow back at him in a more exaggerated tone to get his attention right back. I never get tired of it, but I love how vocal he and my older girl can be. Macchiato trills 90% of the time (especially when I touch her and she's basically responding with, "Yes, can I help you?") while EB makes a wide range of short or long meows, mostly wanting my attention. The best is when he comes over to my home-work station, meows for pets, I pet him, stop to go back to work, and he meows again with a paw batting at my leg like, "I didn't say I was done being pet." I may not understand everything they say, but I know when they're happy, scared, or playful.

  • I had a cat that had been abused when he came to us. Somebody had dumped him so one day he came to our house. He was a beautiful black cat named Blackie. When he jumped on my friend's lap she didn't want him there, so I took him off and put him on mine. As soon as he got settled I started petting him and he started purring. We had a bond that same day. Days later my dad brought him into our house. He looked around, obviously scared, so I called him and he came right over. I petted him and talked to him. He went down the stairs to the dining room to explore. He looked at my dad as if to say "is it all right to look around?" He was a little scared at first. I think it was because of a new environment he wasn't used to yet.But eventually he relaxed more. He would sleep on my bed at night, and when it was. bedtime he would go to the bottom of the steps and wait for me. Once he woke me up during the night because he wanted to be petted and belly rubs. He purred so loud my dad was wondering what the noise was. A very happy and contended kitty. He loved my lap.Once I was sitting in our front yard and Blackie was just coming out of the bushes. He saw me and called me. I answered and he casually came over and on to my lap. He was my baby. Lived to be 16. I miss him so much. Sometimes I think his spirit is watching over me

  • Jackson, great video, did you know cheetahs meow and it sounds just like our cats? Adults, not just cubs. I was shocked! They sound like a house cat. And knowing how strong a house cat is, at 12 or so lbs., handling a fractious one at a couple hundred lbs.??!! As a Humane Officer in the 90s, (WA State) I got 'hands on' training at 'Cat Tails' a refuge for large cats in Mead, near Spokane. I got to feed a bucket of chicken wing to their big male tiger. He was casually standing, not stretched, with front (GIGANTIC) paws on chain link between us,(thankfully!) and I didn't even come up to his diaphragm. Massive animals. I learned for sure I'm not a 'whisperer ', lol. Even their friendly female sensed my fear. And when they chuffed, it goes through your organs like rock music in speakers! Lion Whisperer, Kevin Richardson is another channel I love. But, you give much needed advice so THANKYOU! Especially for the spay and neutering education! My 2 never go out, but I'm feeding a feral Tom and have a 'dumped' mama who, st maybe 5mos old, had 6 kittens in my storage room. I've placed 5 and have a hopeful for her and her last one, together! 👍💙🥰✌

She then walks to the spot that relates to her need. To the beds room for her crunchies, she only get 1Tbls a day of dry food, the hall means play another spot food. I always respond to her and yes I know I got her talking more, but I love communication with her. Other times I can’t figure it out so I just pet her 😊

  • One of my young female visitors usually gives me quiet meows when she wants fed. A few times recently she has come onto my boat and refused to eat but carried on meowing, almost as though she was crying. I followed her outside and found that each time a kitten had fallen in the canal. They weren't even her kittens but she was looking after them. I never stop being amazed at the way cats, supposedly distant, independent and aloof, interact with us humans. They are amazing creatures who almost understand us better than we understand ourselves.

I’ve had over 15 cats though out my life and I can guarantee you that most of them meowed to each other from time to time. Most often when trying to get another Kitty to play with them. Currently, my husband and I have 2 cats. The older one barely has a voice, it’s so soft. The other is best described as exuberant and extremely talkative. Multiple times every day, she will meow to the older cat to get her to play with her.
