What was in this air compressor? Air brake air compressor passing oil and leaking air.

The disconnected air supply probably was the start of the entire system failure. Contamination in the air compressor and air system snowballed down the mountain. Lots of work went into this job. Air drains added, rebuilding the air dryer and replacing the governor.
1st video in this series. • Prevost bus breakdown ...
In all my years of owning a 95 Prevost Royale with a Detroit Diesel, I really wish I had the opportunity to have you all work on our bus, you are legit and I can tell you really care about your customers. Keep it up gents!
You do great work. The owners of those coaches do not knew how lucky they are to have found you. Keep up the great work.
Man I can’t believe the lack of maintenance I’ve seen on some of the busses you work on. Good for them you guys are straight up and know what you’re doing. I’m a do it yourselfer and I have a lot of vehicles but I keep up on all the maintenance. I bought my 1998 coachman rear diesel MH almost two years ago and I found a lot of stuff that had never or rarely been serviced. My air dryer wiring for the heater had been ripped off by the drive shaft at some point and the filter and desiccant had never been changed. People buy this stuff and think it will run forever.
Scott, check into CAT, CEET and SCAT, SCEET hose for pneumatic applications. Available where aircraft parts are sold.
A very well written comment. It really shows the number of maintenance/repair shops that are dangerous.
The frightening part is that I’d be willing to bet the vast majority of these old conversions are probably unsafe to be on the road 😯
Well it will run forever provided that you maintain it properly.
I think part of the problem is that people get told that these are million mile chassis which incorrectly leads people to think that since it only has 125000 miles on it it’s basically brand new. Of course it’s 20’or 25 years only so nothing could be further than the truth.
Air brake systems are something all owners of buses & trucks should check daily when driving.
Lenny sound's great, nice to see you out on the road again too. ✌️❤️😁
You shure save these folks bacon ,great job scott it amazes me they can even make it to your place😎
Great maintenance/repair videos with a touch of humor . The honest hard work your doing is saving lives. Anyone that owns a vehicle can learn something watching your KZhead channel. Thank you have a most wonderful day.
Seeing all that oily water coming out of those tanks reminds me I need to drain my compressor in the shed I will put it on the job list for next weekend 👍👍🇦🇺
Scott, you're now a genuine nutty professional 😁
Bravo Scott! That was a beautiful bus with a deadly flaw! You did the guy right and very likely saved lives! Thanks for who you are!
And you made the best choice swapping the air compressor out BRAVO
Was working on a MCI 9 for greyhound in Seattle. Had a bunch of work on it. Wasn't popping off or unloading. Found the signal line off. Unloaders were stuck. Had to spray Down with Lube 'um and manual move them. Cleaned out everything and was working good again.
Too funny pulling the nuts out of the compressor.
Awesome job! An aside: I have a pretty extensive woodshop with a large air-compressor (upright tank, two stage, at 220v). I don't use my woodshop as often as I should. But I keep a log on when I drain the compressor tank. The last time I drained the tank, I had no moisture collected in the bottom, and it had been over a year. Oh, I guess this is important: I live in Reno, Nevada. I run two humidifiers during the winter months inside the house. One cannot make water out of absolutely no humidity. :)
That bus sounded good pulling the hill !
Nice work Scott …
Can't get enough of the bus grease monkey stuff ,so much knowledge on these systems!
That’s a good looking bus. Nice job guys.
Great video, thank you for sharing it with us.
Another bus safely on the road, well done team
Nice work 👍
Well done Sir
Sketchy that that air system was rolling down the highway with the owner blissfully unaware
Nice job 👍
Nuts! Literally...
Good video, thanks
you almost got me with the sight glass, I was thinking how the could anyone see the half full . . .
Scott's has learned to not trust sight glass on unknown buses!
I wondered about draining Prevosts. Mine said every 20 000 km or every year if I remember correctly. There is almost no access to the tanks. I need some of those pull cord drains. I do have to say that when we have drained them nothing came out. My air dryer works very well.
But when it fails you don’t know for a year.
Very true. I was surprised to see that recommendation. Love your videos Scott. Wish I could get down there one day. Stay safe and thanks so much for the response.@@BusGreaseMonkey
Great video
We always re sealed the bottom gasket before installing. They are prone to leaking.
These sideways mounted ones to pretty good.
Gear Head interesting Thank you for the video.
I couldn't tell In your pic post but as soon as I saw them in this video I was like those are red oak acorns, like willor or water oak acorns.😂😂
Clearly wasn’t expecting to find those in there :)
Not so great memories doing this compressor changein bitter frozen cold on side of frozen mountain pass. . had to stop and thaw out hands every so often. oh how nice when summer came
keep the clips coming
That’s a lot of moisture in those tanks . Could you not install a automatic drain valve similar to those on the larger industrial compressors?
Looks like a really good case for a rebuilt compressor?
I recognized that as for a inversion valve. Had to teach the drivers not to set the parking brake right after the governor purged the drier Has to have higher air pressure than when set to release the DD3 lock.
Sure, its not for anticompounding? If the park brake is set and someone steps on the brakes, it puts the same amount of air pressure on the spring brake as the service brake. Thus keeping from multiplying the force being applied to the rod, slacks, s-cams and shoes.
It’s because dd3’s use air pressure to set the parking brake and also use air pressure to release it. Unlike spring brakes just use lack of air pressure to set
@@BusGreaseMonkey That's correct. There are 3 locking balls on the actuator rod that locks down on the shaft.
@@timothyhays1817 anticompounding comes from the SR1 valve.
There are 8 cam lock rollers not 3 balls. kzhead.info/sun/hdSGj62oq4CGf2g/bejne.htmlsi=w5oIJp6S-ovIssj4
4:59-compressor eggs.
Had the same problem on 3406b cat but the air compressor unloader pin went in the intake tube& into intake manifold & on into the engine cylinder . The cause of problem is the intake port floor on air compressor is too big (low) & allows the pin to pop out.
That bus looks like the basic maintenance wasn’t done !!
Looks to me like you’re playing that old game operation
It's troubling to see just how many bus and RV owners maintain their vehicles the same way they treat their cars. Which is as little as possible. RV's and busses are big trucks with passenger carry capabilities. They will absorb a lot of abuse but when they fail the consequences can be catastrophic in terms of personal safety, cost or both. As troubling as the attitude of owners is the negligence and incompetence of far too many so called "Service" facilities has to make you wary around any of these vehicles you encounter on the road.
It's all fun & games til your Gloryhole is covered 😅 my lord I died 😂🤣
yup, it ran when I parked it
Everything you worked on that bus was dirty. It's called lack of maintenance.
Nice hole
I laughed when i went in the bus after they made the hole and left the note for us ;)
that should be mandetory on truk there are auto but pulling valves with chain will suffice to use when not having air dryer like a truk
Well, that fooled me. THought they were ball bearings. No matter what, that unit would not work like that.
Wheel Chocks at the pit. Not for you, for the other guy(s).
The wheels are chocked
@@BusGreaseMonkey My mistake.
Any plans to pressure wash the undercarriage please? Thanks
Not on my property. Pressure washing vehicles here will just contaminate the property and environment.
That hose shot resembles a colonoscopy.
So,the second unloader wasn't supposed to look like that either? 😅
What a mess.
Air intake has emphysema .
Why didn't you dig the pit deeper?
I don’t like standing working over my head. Plus it’s more dangerous.
the neglect on these buses........./cringe.
