This bus had a shop do simple tasks like airbags, shocks and an air dryer. Everything they touched was completely screwed up.
The discovery of no oil in his hubs was absolutely crazy. One seized bearing put up quite a fight.

I got a 1993 40 foot pusher in excellent condition, engine that has 90K on it, 8.3 Cummins, looking for some one wanting the engine and trans, going to make it a permanent little house for a daughter, no plans on re-tagging it or insuring it again.

These people need to be held accountable. Lives are in danger from any work performed at that Shop. I smell refund and litigation and a public notification referring to immediate inspection for any former customers.
Couldn’t agree with this more, DEFINITELY a refund, I couldn’t believe that air bag with no nuts on the studs!!!!
The level of negligence shown by the shop that did the work was incredible. Either the mechanic is incompetent or the shop is cutting corners. Either way, it has to stop b/c we all share the highways with vehicles that have been "serviced" by this shop.
Who would ever think that a gorgeous bus like that would be a rolling mess underneath? Just wow.......
That is appalling - absolutely disgraceful. That owner is so fortunate that you and your crew have helped him out - as are all other road users.
It's amazing the number of times that people have brought you a bus, that has been serviced by someone else, where it really wasn't in some cases, but in this case It was just all done badly.
More like vandalized. Too many technicians not enough mechanics. They can fix computers but they don't know nothing about wrenches. That's our Workforce in the United States.
@@davidcollver6155 The job title has nothing to do with it. This is just plain incompetence.
and the Authorities claim .... they are concerned about the ROAD TOLL ( deaths )
These videos are a credit to honest folks who do what is right, and shame to those hackers who are out to make a buck and screw the customer. Thank you Scott!
These places need to be held accountible. This is dangerous
I agree. I mean, why not? No, they won't sue. Their buisness will collapse and they won't be ABLE to sue. Facts iz facts. Win win win!
$$$$, lack of it causes poor work and nobody suing, because it's all fruitless in returns. until the point of huge class action lawsuits, which still have no return for the end citizens involved. only crooks get richer, whilst we all get the shaft. times are changing and all the crooks are starting to get the shaft.
All the shop has to do to keep lawsuits away is keep filing bankruptcy, & get a new DBA (business name), whilst never dropping as much as a socket wrench, much less a customer or a shop.
@@throttlebottle5906 - Correct. It's not worth the time and money you would have to spend to have it work through the courts sometime this century.
@@KittyDad That's not really how it works. A DBA is a claim to a name, not a new company. Piercing the veil of LLC's and corporate entities is not difficult at all, and there are many other remedies. Maybe talk to someone who knows the legal system instead of making stuff up.
Scott, what a transformation! Maladjusted brakes, loose shocks, dry axle bearings, twisted airbags, air leaks and loose bolts! That was a challenge! The mechanically ugly duckling is now a smooth, safe, quiet and beautiful Swan! Elvira lives to travel!
Not just loose bolts. Completely missing bolts. This could've been disastrous.
Everything the previous shop touched, they screwed up, unbelievable!
Seems like the quality of work gets worse the more busses that come thru the shop. The sad part is 99 percent don't get to BGM to be repaired correctly.
It's criminal what these shops get away with and put lives at risk with their shoddy and nonexistent repairs. Thank God your shop is available.
When using an air chisel like that, wear thick gloves and maybe a face mask. The hardened tip can chip off, like it did to you. Back in late 1970s I was doing the same thing, I think to remove locking lug nuts. The tip chipped and went into the back of my hand into back of my knuckle. Did not even bleed. But hurt like hell. Went to ER. Doctor said nothing is in there. I said take an X-Ray, then they saw it. They had to make a cut in the back of knuckle to get it out, then stitch it up.
Wow 😯
The dude at 36.00 minutes is protecting his forehead with his safety glasses.
It's scary to think that some of these shops that do such horrible work won't be held accountable until lives are lost. Thank you, Scott, for doing good work.
Scott, when you have a hub like that, usually a 7lb or 14lb hammer on the inside of the drum straight down shocks it, The bearing normally shoot out. Don't get too close when you hit it. If that doesn't work, a LITTLE heat on the inner race then hit it Greetings from the UK [retired]
Bus repairmen who don't know what they are doing are just like auto mechanics that don't know what they are doing either. I had three tries with three separate mechanics who thought they knew how to install freeze plugs and the fall failed. I finally found an 'old school mechanic' that even knows how to repair new car problems and installed a replacement for the leaky one when it blew out. Needless to say, he has been my 'go-to guy' for years now, just like Scott and his customers!
That was a sorry repair on the other shop. I would not trust the smashed air bag ever. Your work is immaculate..
Glad to see yall are back up and running again after the lightening strick
Hub pulling. Take 2 used lug nuts. Weld a plate across the top. Weld a coupling nut to the top of the plate. Select a coupling nut that all thread will fit thru your puller bar slots. Now you can pull hubs easily.
Amazed at the shoddy work some shops do that people have paid good money to be done right. You guys, as always pulled, it off! Great job!
I've lost all faith in mechanics these days for reasons like this. I don't have a bus but my towing vehicle has had expensive faulty work done on it that I've had to come behind and repair. I do my own repairs now. Not just on my vehicles. HVAC guys were trying to replace a 7 year old unit for $3500 dollars. I repaired it for $150. Sign of the times maybe?
I remember MAD Magazine making fun of corrupt garages 50 years ago! I remember the comic but, not 100% perfectly. [Mechanic talking to customer] 1930: "Your Thelman wire was corroded so I replaced it. That will be 10 cents. 1975: "Your Thelman wire was corroded so I replaced the engine. That will be $850.
You actually can go after repair shops and crap work. Save your receipt and the work order that shows what was ( repaired ) Take video/pictures of what it actually looks like. Contact BBB for your state. Also contact your state DMV or whomever is responsible for repair shops. Hire a reputable lawyer and sue. I would say sue for huge dollars. Consider replacement cost for the coach and monetary value of lost wages if you/loved one died in an incident because of crappy/non existent repair. Brake job and oil change are (2) of the easiest repairs to do. That's why all repair shops use those items to get you into the shop. It's easy to spot worn pads and dirty oil at a repair shop. ( Under the lift or over the pit ) Shame on any repair shop that sends you on your way in a dangerous vehicle.
@@MarineCorpsSergeantTollens If it happens again I surely will sue. I did take it back and it went south pretty quick. It was best for me to walk away without charges being filed against me for being the victim.
@@tcin10asee2 Are you able to tell us who didn’t do the work properly ? Or where they’re located ?
Repair shops would rather replace an RV rooftop ac unit, that to service. More money. I brought mine in for service, as I had neglected it for a few years. They connected their diagnostic tester and said it was toast. I know that it needed all the leaves and stuff under the shroud that was restricting the air intake removed. So I said, "No thanks." Brought it home and dd it myself. Always get at least two evaluations on big repairs, and watch some KZhead videos on the problem so you can discuss the issue, ward off potential fraud.
Someone may have mentioned this, but if you have a harmonic balancer style puller and 3 long bolts (the 5/16 hubcap bolts), it makes a very effective hub puller.
It’s disgraceful that some shops think that standard of work is acceptable to them
Always Great to c u making someone SAFE !!! A TRUE ANGEL !! GOD BLESS !!!
That kind of work is absolutely criminal, they are going to get people hurt and or killed!
It's a mind blower that the other shop was so incompetent, and couldn't even tighten bolts and nuts properly.
That was fantastic. I've seen a lot of things , but never saw anyone do that to an airbag. Most shops would have told the customer that they needed to replace it, even though it's only 6 months old! Great work! I was very surprised when you said it was a conversion. Very nice!
Proud of all The Bus Grease Monkey staff and Scott, founder of the business, for taking such real American 🇺🇸 Pride in their work ! As for the shops not doing what they should be doing, I’m disappointed ! Have a Blessed Day and Happy Memorial Weekend ! 🇺🇸TCB⚡️
Thanks for a great video. What a beautiful coach !
That prolapsed airbag looked scary. You should make a puller frame to attach to the wheel studs to pull stubborn hubs.
Gorgeous bus inside, outside, and now a buttery smooth ride!
That is really crazy Scott , unbelievable how much that happens to people … I can’t understand how some people can do that kind of work …. awesomes looking bus inside… nice job Scott glad you got it fixed for him the right way,,,,,
Scott Good afternoon Great video Astonishing those wheels kept in place. Amazing learning lessons for us whom watch this great video
It's actually horrible that nowadays you cannot trust a simple job to be done by pretty much Any Mechanic Nowadays. You have to do-it-yourself if you want it done right even though you've never done it before at least you're learning. I've always done my own wrenching but getting up there in the ears and the hands don't work like they used to. Great video keep up the good work.
When I was working in a shop, almost all the other techs were pillheads.

Like the OLD saying, Its hard to find good Help. Great work Guys.
I love it, "Get the BFH"! 😅
Another successful and happy customer
I've had the same problem with my airbag it's expensive but in the future you can use o-ring lubricant pump it on your and with rubber gloves and just wipe it All around the boot it helps it to slip and slide into itself and out of itself easier
Really good insight into how the airbags are supposed to fit
Yes I agree the shop that initially did the work should be held 100% accountable for everything that was wrong after they "fixed" it but saying that the owner needs to face some of the blame because listening to him he had no idea what a proper pre trip was because he should have been checking the airbags bearing oil and brake adjustment and not only checking it but also knowing what to look for without knowing the whole story it seems he went from a rv with springs and juice brakes to a bus without doing any research on what he needs to be looking at and for before he starts out on a journey
Love to see a video on the electrical repair from the lightening strike..
I’m always amazed by people willing to own and operate what are essentially commercial vehicles with no idea how to do a pre trip or any PM on their vehicle!
Dang. I’m so impressed by your knowledge and experience. Why go anywhere else for service 😊
The good ole not too tight shop, should be avoided😂
With the large amount of bus vehicles on the road, you have to wonder how many have safety issues, worn parts, inoperable parts, etc. It has to be a lot. If I had a bus, I'd bring to you guys. Awesome work
I'm pretty sure you don't call these shops up. And let him have it with both barrels. But if you ever need somebody to make that call, i'd be happy to do it. Keep up the good work, Scott, you guys are amazing.
great clip, keep them coming
When he was grabbing and doing battle with that air bag it reminded me of getting dressed this morning..... :)
I know the struggle…
@@BusGreaseMonkey Lol
You save lives my friend!! I so wish you lived closer to me !! :( Canada Vancouver west coast )
Loved this episode. Thought that air bag was a goner for how long it had been sitting in there all twisted up on itself. Figured even if you got it straightened out it would have a split in it somewhere along one of those (many) creases and lose air. Glad that's not the case.
Great video apart from the silly shaver advert ,Good Job
Always enjoy the Scott videos
WOW that was some serious shit. Thankyou for sharing ✌️ peace from Melbourne Australia.
As serious about bus quality as he is about shaving products. LOL You were hella serious there.
That's a pretty impressive level of incompetence.
It seems impossible that an air bag can be so POORLY installed! I'd never deal with that shop (again).
Loved my ex-girlfriend’s Pops Bluebird Wander Lodge. First I saw it was at Albuquerque balloon Fiesta. Awesome rig. He had club plate 001. He went Titusville to Anchorage. Stopped in Denver so we could do some minor repairs and a dust out 🙏🏻😎
I'm sure it wasn't cheap for him to have all the airbags and stuff done. I'm sure it wasn't cheap to have you guys fix it. I'm at the point in my life where I've been looking for older busses(can't beat the old ones like yours). I grew up working on cars but a bus would be a bit much. What you've shown is people that paid good money and got screwed(i wish you would have posted the number for that fleet service place that relieved someone for 4k. That's a lot to still have some unsafe garbage) I commend you for the work you do and it looks like you're passing it on to your son. It's so hard to find honest mechanics. Keep up the great work.
We're living in times where you can't call out the guilty or the incompetent. If you do, they can sue for defamation.
@@BlackPill-pu4vi I know. And that just sucks.
@@BlackPill-pu4vi they can sue all they want but as long as you speak the truth then they will lose every time!! It’s not defamation when your speaking facts!
One of the quietest & nicest riding busses yet
Looks to me like that bag has developed a permanent crease from riding that way for 6 months. Of course I know nothing about this kind of suspension. You are the expert. That is a beautiful bus.
Love this channel!!!!!!!!!!!!
I JUST CANT BELIEVE THAT SHOPS ARE LETTING ALL THAT STUFF GET OUT THERE .
That's a lot nicer than the 96A3s I used to drive! I just don't understand how these shops that do such shoddy work even stay in business. Good for you, I guess, but terribly frustrating.
The airbag whisperer :)
Smells so bad cause that gear oil that was in there boiled. That burned gear oil smells awful
Great work, Team Scott! Unbelievable how awful the running gear was "fixed"! Thank goodness you guys are there to catch these problems! Very interesting video, thanks! Stay well, stay safe!
I love watching you guys work and do your job so well. But, it would say to me, if I can't afford a brand new rig, I'll just keep driving my current vehicle.
Ha. That’s in Centerville. I never even thought about where you were at until I seen the square.
No oil/grease in the wheel bearings...........what a dumpster fire......that was a near future wheel fire, wheel comes off accident. This WHY owners should at least know the basics about the machine they own........they are not cars, fridges or washing machines. Yes, shops do bad work......however, if you own it, you are responsible also. These are some of the best, educational videos that bus/rv or even heavy truck owners could see and raise awareness to prevent horrible, fatal accidents.
Nice looking motor coach
This is like my favorite show now.
I CAN NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THEY COULD DO SUCH A POOR AIR BAG INSTALLATION.. Happy you were able to correct it! Air leaKS WERE TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. Never checked!
The only one not leaking was the one crunched up.
Scary to think rigs in that shape are on the hi-ways! The owners of the bus need to keep a closer eye on their rigs! Sure you have a shop do repairers, but the owner need to do daily inspections too! Come people, get with it!
Had a bout with my oil caps recently as the cup melted and threw out all the oil. It was hot but the bearing seemed sound. I wasn't in a position to take the bearings out and check races. I was able to buy new caps and cap oil at Napa and get home. Now I have to inspect deeper the rest of them.
It might be a good thing that the brakes on the tag axle weren,t working.Sure didn,t need any excess heat on those dry bearings.
I guess the previous shop had that "Guaranteed as long as it works" attitude.
had a rare sighting today in MCI Saudi bus at a campground near me kool to see it
nice closeup of the hub.
Nice, GOOD ENDING
This was a nice bus. I enjoy seeing the interiors. Too bad that prior shop sent the bus on the road w/o triple checking everything. Seems potentially dangerous not just for the occupants but for fellow motorists as well.
Down here we have annual truck inspections and no way would that RV pass muster . In fact if the vehicle compliance cops stop you and find something wrong you get a massive fine.
The strength and durability of the Detroit Diesel engine ! They're Bullet Proof
AND SORRIE NOT YELLING JUST BAD EYES LOL
the shop that did the work needs to be shown on here so others can bewared its pathetic at the sloppiness in the work performed , i run into the same thing with my semi truck occasionally
Your videos are very informative and educational, but they also make people like me nervous to pull the trigger to buy a bus due to the lack of honest mechanics in this country.
It gives many of us second thoughts about the quality of repair we get for our cars.
ELVIRA would have made a sudden stop in not too many miles when the bearings welded to the axle spindle!! close call much!
So sad the shoddy work that is done by some shops .
Nice work guys did an awesome job so smooth and didn't even make a noise going down the road, the other company that did the work on that bus should pay for the cost of the redo thks Bus Grease monkey top notch repair.
Scott what does yellow overspray apparently visible on the top rubber bushings for one of those shock absorbers imply to you?
Just painful to watch the hub removal I made a puller for this type of project using bottle jack and flatbar
Kingpin thrust washer so get some grease in it!
I just realized- what about some warm heat on that rubber bladder through a mild setting on a heat gun? Even a hairdryer would soften the rubber, no?
The two of you beating on the brake drum reminds me of the two with hammers in a German clock ( glockenspeil???)
Uh oh..the BFH! Is is Slivwer like Maxwell's Silver hammer? I use mine to tweek things in place...
Awesome motorcoach Industries bus... mci is the best!!
A very pretty bus.
Not only was this kind of work ridiculous, but it was also downright dangerous to everyone near him as well as the owner.
Just a lovely coach
Time to create the Bus Monkey School. I see a lot of interest and need for this.
Make a puller using the hub bolts!
I've never thought of it can you put a bar across the studs tighten studs and push on shaft to preload hub to help??????
A lot of work done
