  • I live by a beach, from my own experience with seagulls, they will treat you the way you treat them: So if you are a douche towards them, by deliberately scaring them off, antagonising them, or causing fear or harm to their young, then expect to get dive bombed at every opportunity. My neighbour learned that the hard way when he killed some babies, next thing you know every sea gull in the area was attacking him, yet they were just fine with everyone else. That’s another thing: they wont turn against everyone if a couple bad apples treat them bad, but they will hold a grudge against those specific bad apples. That being said, if you respect their space, and/or treat them with kindness, then they will leave you and your close ones be. My mother used to give water to the babies during the scorching summers whilst the parents were out. The little ones would often bathe in the tubs she gave, and drank the water. One time a parent caught her in the act but they didn’t do anything. After a while all the sea gulls respected her, and even trusted her enough to the point that when one of the babies wandered into the house and had to be escorted out they were completely unfazed. All i will say id ffs keep your chips to yourself! You feed a few to a lone bird next thing you know you have triggered a feeding frenzy.

    @ShadowJ667@ShadowJ66711 ай бұрын

    • Seagulls are as smart as corvids imho. It can be smart to pay your seagull tax though. If you pick out just one gull, ideally the dominant one, and just feed that one, it will keep the others at bay. Save the feeding frenzy until you are ready to leave.

      @woodypigeon@woodypigeon3 ай бұрын
  • Hey, animal rescuer here (I mainly rescue birds). I just want to warn everyone not to replicate the actions shown in the video. Why? Seagulls are prey animals, which means that they get really frightened when you catch it. If you’re wondering why the gulls are comfortable getting close with him, it’s because they are used to human interaction. Everyday, people give the gulls food scraps. This desensitizes the birds and makes the birds feel comfortable enough to approach you. This makes the birds susceptible to dangerous acts performed by people who don’t have good intentions. Even if the bird is desensitized, if you catch it (it’s still a prey animal, remember), the bird’s body will produce a lot of adrenaline. This might not kill them immediately, but it could damage its heart in the long run, even if you only hold it for a few minutes. Also, if you catch the bird in a wrong way, you can severely injure the bird. Birds have delicate bones, and it’s very easy to break them. In addition, it’s illegal in most places to catch or harm a seagull. Seagulls are migratory birds after all and most migratory birds are protected. Remember that seagulls are just like any other birds. They deserve love and respect too. If you do not want a giant dude to catch you, then leave the birds alone. Seagulls only steal food because they are hungry (they are only comfortable enough because they have been desensitized). If everyone refuses to give the seagulls scraps (and try not to let them steal), it will force the seagulls to find food somewhere else, and eventually they will stop bothering you (and others) as much as before! If you have participated in these acts, but you did not know that it would potentially harm them, then it’s no shame at all! Forgive yourself, move on, and don’t do it anymore. Have a good day! -Frodo 🕊️

    @darkyboode3239@darkyboode32399 ай бұрын
    • Yup, you’ll find that method of self defense among many animal species including humans. When a person or animal is scared they may have a natural urge to pee or defecate themselves as a method of dropping dead weight, which can aid in running away or in deterring potential predators
