12 teams took part in the inaugural season of the Football League in 1888/89. In this video we're taking a look at all the grounds that hosted games that season. Which of those stadiums are still standing and what has become of those that no longer exist?

Goodison Park, England's first purpose-built football ground.
💙 Also known as THE GRAND OLD LADY 💙..NIL SATIS NISI OPTIMUM 💙 EVERTON FOOTBALL CLUB 1878...👍🏻
@@sarahkb7 Try correcting a load of supporters in a pub just after their team have been thrashed. See how you get on. Anyway you are wrong.
How about doing a similar video for the Football Alliance teams . Which was the alternative to the football league at time ....
Interesting video. Thanks for posting. It shows how cricket was the dominant sport before football took over
I live within a few minutes walk of four grounds once used by the Team Of All Talents, aka Sunderland AFC. Roker Park is preserved, in a way, by the names given to the little closes that make up the housing development built on the site of this famous old ground. Of Horatio Street, Fulwell Road and Newcastle Road - where no fewer than three Football League championships were won - there is no trace whatsoever, not so much as a plaque.
Pretty sure plaques were put up about a decade ago. There is one on Prengarth Avenue (Fulwell) and Blue House Field (Hendon) iirc
YOU RAMSSSS - glad we changed our colours lol
Please can you do the same thing for the other top 5 leagues starting Stadiums
All of them were more modern in 1888 than Kenilworth Road in 2024
no yet.accrighton Stanley
Great video. The Victora Ground was my favourite outside London. Devastated to hear it no longer exists and yet another housing estate was built on its site.
That's a really good short video. Enjoyed that. Well done.
Good history of Anfield 😮
Aka...ANALFIELD...
villa park was originally a lake supplying water to aston hall. photos to prove.
This video is right up my street. Brilliant. I live close to Parker’s Piece, Cambridge. This was the site of the first game with modern rules football, after the rules were written down by the university. The history of football is fascinating. Thanks
Preston North End - the original and ONLY Invincibles. Won every match, in every competition, for an entire season. Only team to ever do so. Still playing at Deepdale. That's history.
Preston. The 4th most successful club in Lancashire.
Played 20 matches in the league ffs. Arsenal won more than that alone. I'd say Arsenal's achievement was much tougher given there were almost twice as many games and football much harder. And yes I'm a biased Arsenal fan😊
@@TheFoxington All you've said Here is "You're right but I don't like it" None of what you said refutes my statement.
They didn't win every match either. They won 18 and drew 4. A great accomplishment in and of itself but why the need to denigrate the Arsenal achievement? Much shorter season and against lesser opposition I would hazard a guess.
If that's the case then fair dinkum and well done. It pisses me off that Arsenal's so called 'invincibles' got knocked out of three f#%#n cups.
Whato, As a Magpie, I always enjoy hearing about Forest losing 8-0! Favourite ground? Trent Bridge of course.
Trent Bridge as it was and still is used as an international cricket ground to this day where Test Matches are regularly held!
I passed the old Olive Grove ground in Sheffield yesterday
Stoke went into liquidation in 1908 the current club are not technically the same club
I think all of them wonderful story's
Preston didn't win every game as they drew 4 league games. But they did win the double
Turf moor and anfield🔥
Sheffield Wednesday didn’t play then lol 😂 we was in fa cup in 1880
is soccer atoz safe? it looks weird
What about Everton moving to goodison park ?!
What has that to do with the 1888/89 season. Everton didn't move to Goodison until a few years later.
At 7: 00 - 13 he tells you that Everton fc moves down the street to Goodison Park over a dispute how the club was being run. Then LIVERPOOL FC was formed 1892 and took over playing at Anfield.
Villa park not changed still in past like there fans
Villa Park unique best in the land .

Please do something on Crystal Palace. Not the club but the venue. Cup Finals, Formula 1, Cricket & WG Grace & yes Crystal Palace FC. Possibly the worlds oldest football club.
No.... that's SOCCER
