Found this fake EOTech on eBay for only $35, I knew we had to review it and compare it to a real $400 EOTech.
Surprisingly, they are actually pretty similar.

That's what the tactical pipe shotgun is for!

Most honest review ever “it was on Call of Duty...and...well yeah, it looked cool 🤷🏻♂️” Such is life my friend!
Its known as the holographic sight. its an actual sight, and since call of duty uses real life guns, sights, and attachments (for the most part), that's why it's there. It's also in rainbow six siege, but yeah its cool xD
when I started airsoft back in high school (cant own guns here, gotta cope with airsoft toys) this is literally what I thought when finding optics 🤪🤪
Someone who buys a $35 red dot off Ebay most likely won't be using it in a jungle on in the desert
Exactly, and neither will this genius.
You did catch that he is a Marine?

Not an outside airsoft battle hahah
I have a $40 Eotech knock off on my 5.56 and after 2500+ rounds its still holding up very well
Shoot with it. Do real test, can't rate something like this base only on visual appeal
yes we will be shooting it soon
i got one. it's shit. the lense is shit, it holds zero, but after a while, the bolt broke up....the fucking metal bolt brokes before the plastic pieces break. I gave it to my cousin so he can put it on his nerf rifle.
@Hakken NR As the Buddhist might say, that is a question wrongly put. Why would I not want to test 2 things that look the same, but one cost 10 times as much as the other.
thats why i thumbs down this video but hey thats your typical apple customer for ya
Yeah definitely the holosight will shoot
Nice video. Thank you. I’m not a marine, I don’t shoot in the desert, I don’t shoot in the jungle, I don’t address threats & my life is not dependent on the function of my rifle. I shoot paper & varmints between 30 & 100 yards, recreationally. My 552 holo sight is greatly adequate & I am very pleased with it & for recreational use, I highly recommend it.
I like the green! I find my eye gets pulled to green better - green reticles, green lasers, etc. The only problem is the green is usually very expensive with 'mil-spec' optics. I had to settle for the $400 red-reticle EOTech because the same model with green was an extra $170 bucks! Could have bought five green ChinaTech optics for the price difference between red and green.
The difference between the fake and real ones has more to do with just the color. The real ones shine a laser through a special holographic grate which projects a holographic reticle which is made up of hundreds if not thousands of individual dots. The fake uses an LED to project the reticle onto a mirror, so it's a red dot but with the eotech style reticle. As the dot needs to be projected onto a mirror the fake ones basically look like you're looking through tinted glass. Much more heavily tinted compared to a cheap ($5) open red dot sight. I've also noticed severe reflection if I'm back-lit (ie back towards the sun) so instead of seeing through the sight I'll see the reticle and my forehead. As for a green eotech, that requires a green laser which is much more complex to make than a red laser. A green laser is started by an infrared laser and can't be dimmed as easily (for the NV function on the eotech) so the laser in the green eotech will either need two lasers for the NV mode or a way to power the IR laser and run it through the green laser part of the diode with no distortion. I got the fake for my crossbow as I'm not about to spend hundreds on a sight that I can't even legally use for bowhunting here. If bowhunting was legal I'd pay the extra money for the real eotech if I wanted to hunt at super short ranges. Though I'd probably get a prismatic sight as I've got astigmatism and would want something with magnification for ethical kills.
@@daviddavidson2357 thanks for posting actual details on the engineering differences. I hate how most of the ppl criticizing the $35 optic lack any technical rigor. I can deal with the lack of clarity and distortion, I'm more concerned about it holding zero after a lot of firing, sounds like this would be an issue of bonding / epoxy.
I put the cheap one on a 308 bullpup and it still works after hundreds of rounds. Well worth the $24.99 I paid for it.

It would be the best 400 you have ever spent. I would suggest checking out the holosun 507c tho. About half the price. The circle hashes and dot gets me personally on target way faster than just a dot. Plus with the eotech there is virtually no parallax shift at point of impact when compared to other optics. At 100 yards the eotech has a 1.5moa shift while the the best aimpoint has a 10.5moa shift. The eotech is the best sight on the market and I've ran them all. Buddy of mine had the chineseium version on his 22LR AR and it worked fine for range plinking. We put it on a 556 and the recoil turned it off every shot. We finally figured out that the batteries would "bounce" and break the circuit every time forcing you to have to turn it back on for every second shot. But in it's defense it was $30 and was functional on a 22LR with no recoil. And it did look cool:)
Put a piece of paper in the battery slot, it’s a known problem.
Real Eotechs did the same , there was a HUUUUUUGE recal
Eotech isn't a reddot. It's a holographic sight. Just from watching the video you can see a reflection in the China made copy. You get what you pay for.

I have a Amazon special EOTech replica, mounted on my Semi Auto 12 gauge. I have put around 600-700 rounds through it (bird, buck and slugs) and I'm still on the original supplied batteries. All firearms are point and shoot lmao. You watch to many movies.
How does it hold when firing though?
I love your honesty as you explain all the reasons you got an EOTech😂
I run a 68 moa ring with 4 1moa dots and a 3x magnifier, I think that running an eotech with a magnifier is one of the only good reasons to have a holo sight instead of a standard red dot.
Most important thing about these sights, one holds zero, the other goes dead after 400 rounds. Looking cool maybe doctrine, but staying alive and actually hitting your targets is just a tad bit better.
The reason the Real 552 doesn’t have the color switch button is because on NV capable variants that’s the location for the NV mode selector.
135th Darksword it cant change color anyways because it’s not an LED light like the fakes it’s a fuckin laser in the real ones it can’t change color
@me Me he just said it, on the NV capable variant, that's the location for the NV mode selector, if it's not the NV capable variant, it does nothing, the "button" is there to look like a button
I do think NV is better the Green. . . if one has NVG's.
yep, my 553 has the NV mode, though to be honest I have never tried it (I may do that after I type this as I have the rifle out and nv handyish lol...). Now, I don't use it on my airsoft gun, just my real AR15, but for my airsoft gun I went ahead and got a Holosun red dot. It's a real sight so it will handle anything both my GBBR and Krytac. I do have a knock off eotech and the issue with it is really is outside light. If it's dark, then the fake eotech works fine, though if it's a sunny day, the fake eotech vs the real one is miles difference in visibility and useability. Edit: also if I could find a eotech clone that worked well outdoors in the sunlight, I would definitely switch to it for my main airsoft sight to keep fermilibility with my real rifle.
The real reason the real one doesn't have green is because the real one is a holographic sight which uses a red laser, and the fake is a red dot sight which uses a pair of cheap LEDs.
No side by side shot comparison? Torture test?
Just came across your video. So 4 years later how did the $35 sight hold up?
Do you have an astigmatism if so does the china do starburst at all for you?
When are you going to do a review of the $35 as in field-tested and then wet tested everything else stress test it I guess would be a better term for some of it?
I actually bought one to try out based on your lacking comparison video you posted , so far it’s held up well over 5000 rounds . Right now the longest run I have had with it in high temps was here in Vegas when it was 106 and that was at 4 hours of exposure . Try less “ it looks like this “ videos and more actual field comparisons

You can tell them apart by the size of the buttons. Operators need larger buttons because they wear gloves, so small buttons like on the $35 sight will usually be too small and difficult to press
Where did you find the imitation EOTECH, can you provide a link please?
You can find the Sabre 552 clone on Ebay for $35.00

Even were I to buy and use the $400 scope as primary, for $35 I'd buy and keep the alternate as a backup. Not going to screw-up a hunt or waste a trip to the range and any travel time/costs because I don't have a familiar model of scope handy. I've done this in a number of disciplines where the cost of spending a tiny bit extra to have a critical part on hand can make a huge difference. *Example* I keep an emergency prop on my boat. It's only a cheap $45 aluminum prop but the time it has saved me and friends has been considerable...and the rescued vacations and relationships, too.
I tried a red dot like that for a day. Never got used to keeping dot in the middle Any idea? Had it on a pistol
You forgot to mention the knockoff has a mirrored rear glass which makes it garbage to see through in bright conditions, you wind up just seeing your own face reflecting back at you, and in low light the tint makes it hard to see through. I say this as I own one myself and its sitting collecting dust. If I could remove the mirror coating.on the rear lense it'd be a much better sight.
Want to sell it?
That may just be possible to remove the mirror finish. If the lens is plastic(polycarbonate lens) you can get glass etching liquid at just about any craft store. I have used it to remove the anti-glare coating on glasses a few times after it became too scratched up. However, if it is not a coating on a PC lens and it is just glare on glass the process will render the lens to milk glass. But you're not using it anyway, right? If you can't use it the way it is, what's the harm in wrecking it so it is more unusable? If you try it and it works, let us know. I have a .22 cal pellet rifle and this sounds like a good option for use on that.

Great video! I will say I bought and tested a clone very similar to that one and shot over 500 rounds through it and it worked fine, held zero the entire time. I think they're fine for range time or civilian use but would never depend on it to protect my life. I've never dropped it to see what would happen mainly because it probably would break. Also, moisture and extreme temperature long term probably would destroy it too. I'd say its fine for range use even on 30 cal. I tested mine on 300blk and it still works after 500+ rounds. I paid $65 for the one I have but still chinesium! Lol
If it remained zero'd it would obv protect your life lol Makes no sense
Can you adjust the brightness on the 35$ one?
If you watch the reticle of the more expensive one testing parallax it stays on the same spot on that cup but the cheaper one moves. It’s definitely more accurate
Did you call a holosight a red dot sight
EOtech isn't a red dot
but the other one is
Its holosight
Where did you learn that? Your video game?
In my aitsoft gun
Eotechs are holo red dot sights so yes they are red dots
One thing to note is that the Eotech sight is a real holographic sight in that it uses holography to project the reticle onto the target plane using lasers and a holographic grating. The replica sights are just red dot sights in an eotech style housing. You can even see this on the video, the eotech sight appears to have the reticle painted onto the target whereas you can see that the reticle on the replica is still inside the sight. Whether or not that difference is worth 400 bucks is up to you. Holo sights tend to work better with people who suffer from astigmatism, however the best sights for astigmatism are prismatic sights. You can get magnification on prismatic sights too.
I’ve been curious about these cheap red dots and holographic sights. I wish you had shot with the cheap one for a bit so you could tell us how it held up.
@3:40 - I want to see a video of your shot group at 500 yards using your eotech, not pics of your results. That sounds very impressive.

Actually, its not known as a red dot sight, as that usually refers to the reticle. Most people prefer holo-sights over red dot sights, because red dot sights require your eye to move back and forth between the optical plane and the target plane, but holo-sights allow you to focus on both the target AND reticle at the same time.
The replica sights are red dot sights however, they just have a fancy reticle.

This video finally sold me on an EOTech, thanks yo
Ive got a 30$ amazon red dot on my rifle and id trust my life on it. I shot 500 rounds didnt lose zero i then dropped my rifle several times onto concrete and it didnt break and still holds zero. As someone who has been in shoot outs as a civilian i can tell you all you're not going fire near that many rounds and you arent going drop your rifle repeatedly. The optic wont randomly fly off your gun or male you shoot babies instead. If youre a serious shooter buy better optics, if you shoot maybe once a month or just have a gun for home defense a cheap optic is fine as long as it holds zero.
I have a $30 red dot from Walmart on my CZ Scorpion Evo and I've had no issues. Battery life may last a few months but, ok. 9 bucks for a pack of 2.
Can u send me link to it pls? I’m in the market
Please no. I would never ever bet my life on chinesium. Home defense weapons need to be RELIABLE along with the equipment/gear also being reliable. For plinking, it's fine, but at critical moments you wouldnt want something that might have a chance at crapping out during critical moments. I'm not saying to spend 400 dollars on an optic, but you should atleast grab something that's branded - vortex and holosun have good $100 dollar options with shake awake feature (which is nice). Same goes for flashlights, mags, and ammo.

Sooo about 900 rounds later of 556 and multiple light hits with a rubber mallet. It still holding zero... I'm at a lost for words... Maybe I got the one in a million that's good ... I don't know. To my surprise it is even programmed with the same auto shut off features as the real eotechs I don't know what to say... This doesn't seem like it should work. The one I bought was only $55 on ebay...
I own 6 EOTechs, so it’s easy to tell B is fake.
Oh yeah yeah
Holy fuck bro! How did you get so rich?!
You're my hero!
Are these waterproof?
So what brand was the cheap one
