I literally have a scene from this movie on my skin its a masterpiece
The truth is they were not in Love with each other. Emma Stone's character was Sexually attracted to him. Ryan's Character he had real issues connecting with people, especially with women. They were not ever going to be married. They really had nothing but struggling with their careers in common. Emma she did not ever like Jazz. She was Sexually attracted to him and wanted him that way. The ending was perfect. Think about it they both made the choice not to contact each other for 5 years. If they were in Love they would have stayed together. Ryan's Character was not married because he cannot connect on that level with a woman.

tf are u talking about??They loved eachtother enoug to value what the other person holds dear over their own relationship@@JesusSavesSinners

JazzKeyboardist1 Actually, this movie shows LA sucks. Vapid Hollywood industry worried about making a buck more.than art. A music industry lost it its own "fusion" (Samba and Tapas?). Traffic stinks. Everybody drives a Prius. While the movie is mostly about following your dreams and the lengths you have to go to do so, a secondary theme is that LA sucks.
So the Hollywood version of Hollywood?

AidanandKatie S you must be a boring person to watch a movie like this
I like (most) all realms of film and consider myself to be a relatively interesting person lol, but in all seriousness, even though I don't like romantic movies in general, U found this movie to be a blast. It is certainly more refreshing and intelligent than say, TWD or Bad Santa 2 (which, meh)
AidanandKatie S question: as someone who generally doesn't like musicals, will I like this film? I love the director's previous movie whiplash and this movie looks great
Adam Garcia I'm generally not a big fan of musicals or romantic movies, but I really appreciated this movie for it's storytelling and the musical numbers blend pretty seamlessly into the story. So you should most def. see it once it hits theaters. It's thematically different than whiplash and lighter but still feels grounded.

Just watched this for the first time and I'm so glad. 16-year-old me would not have appreciated this masterpiece when it came out. Being in a relationship that lasted over a year since then but mutually came to an end because we both realized we're going in different directions, then having to learn how to deal with each other other's achievements afterwards, and learning to be happy for each other. Tsumefan2 Yeah baby, it was kinda coma inducing. Except I was 3 rows from the bloody front last night and looking up at that screen, for a pretty, inoffensive, colourful but very forgettable movie. Let's do the time warp again - now THAT'S a musical!
Up until now, I still feel an influx of different emotions all at the same time every time I watch Lalaland and play all its soundtrack. I feel like dancing, crying, soaring, and falling in love. This movie has become one of my life's inspiration to go after my dreams. I'll never get over it.
I love you for writing this .... I feel the same its a masterpiece hitting all the right notes
This movie was just a roller coaster of emotions. I smiled, laughed, cried, worried. Literally INSANE
I never understand why studios don't put certain movies (like this) in way more theaters. It has almost 4 million views on KZhead. This made $855,000 in only 5 theaters (which is amazing). I know it's going to go nation wide this week, but I am guessing not into 3,000+ theaters. This movie has a ton of buzz and two major stars... if they want this film to be a major hit financially, take a chance and put this movie in as many theaters as possible.
I think it's so they can do a slow build and gain the word of mouth following since a movie musical is a hard sell even with a well-known property (for instance, "Chicago"). Also, to get into awards season contention there are certain regulations about how many theatres they need to be in by the end of the year. The slow build gives them the qualifiers and then allows them to continue the momentum into the new year vs doing a wide release all at once and disappearing early in the new year when people are starting to vote. It's interesting how much marketing and analytics play a part in the awards season campaigns.
I agree with most of what you said. I know musicals these days are a tough sell. But the budget for this film was $30 Million - which is a decent amount... and again, they did up it from 5 theaters to 200 last week... and it still made over $4 million (which is amazing for only 200 theaters). My point is, if it is doing so well despite only in limited theaters, take the chance - don't wait too long for the "build up" - I think it obviously would do well in (at least) 1,000 theaters.
I think it will definitely be a build and if they do a lot of theatres at once they run the risk of people getting turned off by hearing it's a movie musical. This way they can take word of mouth and convince people who wouldn't otherwise be interested in a musical. (That said, I love musicals myself!) Plus, movies get the biggest bump financially when they win Oscars, so the slow build will probably net them more money (and awards) in the long run. For awards season contention, I believe (but could be wrong-this is off the top of my head) they need 2,000 theatres for two weeks. (As an aside, I did a thorough review of the themes and symbolism and LA locations in the movie on my channel. If it's okay to ask, if you have a sec to take a look, I'd certainly appreciate it!)
Nick Jasper they're rolling it out to more thethers this week

Poeskino true it is beautiful. But it's overrated. The singing was bad and barely audible and the songs aren't that memorable wherein you can sing along after the movie except the Audition and City of Stars. Gosh, the film Moana was better in that aspect. And I've read a review that it's mediocre in a sense that why didn't they hire the dreamers or the actual singers/dancers to do the work of Ryan and Emma? But I agree with you, it's beautiful. But after reading that review from I believe refinery29 or was it metro co uk, it changed my opinion on it. :)

So
I watched today ; almost Christmas; happy and sad ; laugh and cry ; mix feeling that I never experienced. That’s a real love 💕
I remember watching it for the first time and how I went on a roller coaster of emotions throughout the film.
it's been over four years and I still find myself thinking about this movie
I cried so many times while watching this movie. When you see this movie, you can learn what "Too much happy" is. Swelling and busting of Emotion. I couldn't hold it. I shivered crying. Thanks to all the people related to this movie.
***** Yes. But the way of escalating emotion in this movie is similar to the previous one of Damien. lol
The Slick Android In all honesty, this movie and whiplash have the same theme of sacrificing things in life to achieve your dreams. In director Damien Chazelle's own words La La Land is just "happier about it".
Cobe Dominic as a guy who prefers horror movies and 'college party' movies, I cried 5 minutes into this film because it was so beautiful.
i slept so hard during most of the movie though
I seriously cannot comprehend how anyone can dislike this movie.
It's overrated?
when someone is not into musicals?
it's mediocre, overhyped and co-opted the history of jazz....
IndieHipsterNerd you're so stupid following the Hollywood lies. this is a propaganda for stupid liberals
IndieHipsterNerd *clears throat* last like 5 minutes
It's 2024 It still a masterpiece ❤ Specially its piano tune 😘♥️
I watched the movie for the first time last night. A very contemporary movie. And the story also tells much about relationships, love and careers and dreams
It’s contemporary yet nostalgic.
Just finished watching this movie. And WHAAAATT?!?! MASTERPIECE. BEAUTIFUL. A TIMELESS CLASSIC! It's been really long ever since a movie was able to move me this much. Perfection from Emma and Ryan, and perfection from the director, editors, producers. Definitely recommend to anyone, over and over again!
Me too! I just looked at it and I'm still in awe. This movie was PURE ART!

taz.h the end just like tatanic..poor guy
It is hard to say that, but I am very traditionalist movie watcher, and always thought about musicals were artificial and unreal, but La La Land is a rare masterpiece what changed completely my way of thinking... This movie is so colorful and beautiful, and as the same time, realistic. It is about a story of dreamer people and how the life going make them go in different ways... Amazing!
TK I hate musicals but this movie is one of my favorites
i am not english native speaker, your words here exactly described what I also feel on this movie, thank you!
Just watched it for the first time tonight, I’m wrecked and that piano song is stuck in my head 😢
4 years after, still the best movie I keep on watching. Robbed at the Oscar's.
From film festival reviews on IMDB, people are giving standing ovations to the first number "Another Day Of Sun". By the time "Someone in the Crowd" reprises during the credits they are dancing in the aisles. That is a movie I want to see and be a part of!
Saw the movie, the majority of the songs are one-take, unbelievable.
When I saw it in theatres, there was a clear desire for people in the audience to start applauding after 'Another Day of Sun' because of how breathtaking it was. This movie was simply amazing. I can't get over it.

La La Land has received 14 record-breaking Oscar nominations today! Tying with James Cameron's Titanic (1997), and Joseph L. Mankiewiecz's All About Eve (1950).
That's one for the history books, lads! :D
i love all about eve
both also won best picture
I cried even just by watching the trailer
A masterpiece!
im still not over the ending
king taehyung me too
Same
same
Me too
get ur hed out of ur ass and then you will
It might not have won Best Picture, but it did get more Oscars than Moonlight, Manchester By the Sea, Hacksaw Ridge, Lion, Arrival, Fences, Hidden Figures, The Shawshank Redemption, Grand Budapest Hotel, Citizen Kane, The Wizard of Oz, Interstellar, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Batman Begins, Batman Returns, Casablanca, Singin' in the Rain, Sunset Boulevard, Rocky, Pulp Fiction, Tootsie, Braveheart, Midnight Cowboy and The Godfather. It did just fine, guys.
Meredyth Wilson Casablanca and Singin' in the Rain are far better..
ezwar99 ??
I think at some points its best to not win Best Picture and let time decide. How Green Was My Valley won Best Picture in 1941. Who here has seen that movie and who remembers it? Everyone knows Citizen Kane who lost to that film. Time just made Citizen Kane better and is by far a classic, an honor that How Green Was My Valley will never achieve. So time will tell. Watching this makes me impatient of its April 25 release on Blu-ray and still fills me with the anticipation of watching it like it will be my first time. Saw it in the theater and it was amazing.
oh please Slumdog Millionaire won 8 Oscars.
proves oscars are nothing.
Who would a known that this movie would have changed my life
Watched the movie four times already but this trailer makes me wanna watch it 4 more times. Never gets old, never will
The editor of the trailer is so extraordinary. La La Land will receive at least 3 Oscars for sure (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography)
I hate musicals.. and at first I was like..wtf am i watching.. but then. I just couldn't stop. First of all I really love jazz. Second of all.. this is probably one of the best love stories ever... And the ending fucking killed me because it reminded me of that one girl
3choBlast3r It's so fascinating to see so many people in the comments who hate musicals say that they ended up enjoying this movie. Lol.
Same. I don't like musicals that much but this one I enjoyed
I dont like the ending it's so sad...
Same here bro
3choBlast3r I don’t like musicals as well and i was trying to find a movie to watch and I happened to watch a KZhead video where someone mentioned La La Land, so i wanted to give it a try. Watched the trailer first and was like “fuck this shit” but your comment convinced me to go watch it. And goddamn it i don’t regret it! That was amazing! The ending was something else tho💔Such a great story! So well Directed! Just an overall great project!
