In all honesty, the runner was safe, big cats like the mountain lion are timid and usually avoid confrontation, so it was simply hiding, it's what they do best, when you go for a walk in the woods where these cats live, they may be watching you at all times and you'll never know.

I came to the realisation that most people dont fear crocodiles as much as other animals. I am terrified of the idea that something is under water patiently waiting for you to step in. I dont understand people who feel so secure in the wild without any weapons, especially in water. If I knew that there are crocs where I live, I would doublecheck the bath tub before jumping in.
salt water crocodiles are also the animal most likely to eat a person so yeah, I want nothing but distance from those
Problem is, crocs are ambush predators. You don't see them 'till they grab you, and then you're either incredibly lucky or done for. Not much a weapon could do when a croc death rolls...
You don't need a weapon just bloody common sense. It's mostly tourists who get taken by a crocodile because they ignore the signs.

What is the animal?
Scariest one was actually the hippo under the tree, dude must have run for his life from a certain death. Hippos (directly) kill more humans than any other animal. The saltwater croc near swim was actually equally as scary. Tourists would have been lunch, local knew to check for deadlies. I wonder if it heard them coming and moved underneath. Edit: lion in the tent, holy shit.
You don’t really think about it when comparing to everything else out there with teeth and claws, but they are no joke.
The problem with hippos is that too many people think they look goofy, so they can't pose a danger. Folks who think that way can end up "dead" wrong!
Only thing that kills more is mosquitoes. The top two killers are one of the biggest and one of the smallest.
