  • It's weird, because Andre Dirrell totally outclassed Carl Froch in their fight (although Froch got the "win"). But here, Dirrell got soundly beaten by James DeGale, who lost to George Groves, who in turn was beaten twice by Carl Froch. Styles make fights, I guess..

As we're guys like Joe Calzahge, David Haye, Ricky Hatton, Carl Froch. historically the United States has probably achieved more than any other country in boxing but saying the US sees legitimate world champions from Britain who are proven world class as a joke makes you sound like a clown who doesn't even follow the sport.

First round of fights happen and Froch gets a lucky decision against Dirrell where as this guy, Andre Ward, beats Kessler in a decisive fashion. Sure there was a few headbutts in there but Kessler was widely considered #1 and favourite to win the tournament. Fast forward several years later and Ward retires as one of the greatest 168 lbers ever, Dirrell will not even be a foot note.

Against Froch he ran without throwing punches, continuously held on in the clinch, threw himself to the floor at every opportunity, and ducked so low at times that Froch only had the top of his head to punch. • Yeah, although i'd say Liam Smith has only lost to two very good fighters. Callum did great against Groves, but there's always going to be that question about if Groves was anywhere near his best after the shoulder injury. I think the next couple of fights will give us a true indication of where Callum is at for sure. Can't knock what he's done, but it just can't be ignored that Groves was never going to be the same after that bad injury.

      @Two_Seat_Pete_FatA55@Two_Seat_Pete_FatA555 жыл бұрын
    • Good point. I rooted for Groves, but think his tactic wasn't the best. Smith wasn't impressive in the last 2-3 fights, so he thought he could bang with him and was punished. Too bad Groves retired, he has a few big fights in him left. In my opinion he was #1 in super middle, so it only makes sense that Smith took his spot. What I'd like to see is Zurdo sticking around a little more, so they can fight. 175 is already more interesting even without him.

He falls short with almost every shot he throws, DeGale works him over on the inside and then towards the end of the round, he gets caught mid-combination and staggers into DeGale. Not sure how they missed the left hook that takes Dirrell's legs away. 35:02.

    • +834373i it actually was a good round for dirrell, he did get caught with 1 punch at 35:05 but it was while he was in the middle of a combination where he lands 4 of 8 punches. degale actually was missing big looping lefts and dirrell was touching him with a lot of punches but not landing with full impact. dirrell lands clean left hook at the end.

      @solziaboi@solziaboi8 жыл бұрын
    • fact is he went in over confident and emotional and them are the 2 things u dont want to do against a tough fighter that packs a punch. degale gets away with wreckless movement wild swinging, even when he did land combinations they are not too skillful, but he has this awkward herky jerky movement, dirrell is the more skilled fighter, but u got to fight smart not with emotion, like he did in this fight right from the first rd. in a rematch he beats degale guaranteed. degale had him hurt and didnt finish him and dirrell came back and did good in the latter rds, and he was still on wobbley legs thruout the fight. i want to see a rematch or degale vs anthony. i like degale, that style frustrates guys, almost amatuerish style. but he has it working, so credit to him. big win over bute also.

    • +rick rich Fucking finally someone speaks some sense, I agree with everything you said, however in this fight I think that as a whole in this fight; Direll definitely outboxed Degale. the knockdowns helped him scrape it. its just that overhand left is so dangerous, its almost Marcos Maidanaish. With the correct gameplan from Direll in a rematch I think the only feasible way Degale beats him is through knockout, the guy was fighting buzzed and was still winning multiple rounds in a row

  • This may sound crazy but looking back at this fight, this is almost exactly how the Ward-Kovalev fight played out. Early knockdown in the second (2 knockdowns in this fight), and an almost movie-type of rally to bring the fight back. And here this fight could have played out the same way. Dirrell could have gotten the know depending on how the 11th and 12th round was scored or even a draw. In the kovalev-ward fight it could have gone either way or even a draw as well. Two extremely close fights.

    • Not sound, this is crazy. Ward lost badly and Dirrell not lost at all. Ward has little come back in rounds 5, 7 and 8. But rounds 9-12 is Kovalev come back. DeGale was outbox, he has claim to win this fight, because he hurt and drop Dirrell couple times, but in boxing match, he was outclass. Kovalev never was outbox. Ward did. There is no single round Ward outclass Kovalev. On the other hand Dirrell beating up DeGale in numerous rounds.

  • Criminally underrated Dirrell and the overachieving Degale! 2 Southpaws make for ugly fights. Dirrell was schooling Dirrell for first 2 rounds and then BOOM. Idioting commentator saying no defense. Dirrell is a defensive Michigan style fighter. The reason he got caught is Degale throws a LOOPING hand, so it goes around the guard. People swear if you don't fight like Canelo with a high guard you can't defend. I'm a guy who's never watched either, but I can't see how Degale won he gave away most rounds with low work rate, and back tracking after the knockdowns.

  • The Dirrell brothers are just bullies who both met fighter's who had more skill and heart... Chunky is the Real Deal, great boxer... speed, power, slickness and ring savvy... Him an Jack are the true Champs, both fought to a draw... ever since Andre got hit dirty behind the head by Abraham he hasn't been the same... Soooo sad.. #Fearoftheunknown

But i understand why they gave the fight to degale in championship fights, those are able to knockdown the opponent and win a couple rounds should win the fight.
