  • I love seeing a good fight. both have good stamina, powerful yet beautiful kicks (and they do it very easily), proper strategy (use some initial kicks instead of just aiming for head). The small difference in the final score shows both are good fighters, only one must lose anyway since there's no Tae Kwon Do match ends in draw.

But WTF it’s the “original” first one to get oficialized by general “chong-hi” ( I’m not sure if thats how you spell it in our alphabet) who is considered the father of TKD. I do not mean to disrespect any other style or diminish them. I really don’t like how “WTF” now know as WT has become in the olympics . I think it has become a “score points with ur legs” than a martial art tournament. That’s why I said Real TKD

  • I definitely have gone to MMA schools and crosstrain in many martial arts, specifically MT, BJJ, boxing and wrestling and have discussed with the instructors there. As TKD is a very fast-paced martial art in terms of the exchanges, it is very difficult to learn the correct distance and timing in order to properly execute techniques and score. With a background in TKD many fighters learn these elements from the martial art and implement them in their styles, rather than individual techniques

I have the utmost respect for not only the sport itself, but for the martial art as well. I had also competed in a number of local, state and regional tournaments in Florida back in the 90's. Unless you've trained in TKD and competed in competitions or personally know someone who has, you can never really truly understand or appreciate it.

  • This is because the mindset of most Taekwondo athletes is to score points. Because the objective of WTF Taekwondo is not to hurt your enemy, it is to react quick and give a good counter to rack up points on the chest protector. This is because fundamentaly to win in Taekwondo is quite different than most other fighting sports for example in MMA you just need to land an attack any where and devastate your opponent where as in Taekwondo you can only score by hitting the chest protector or head.

  • Just for the record, Bas Rutten and ANderson Silva are Tae Kwon Do practitioners. Many other K-1 and MMA fighters are Tae Kwon Do practitioners. Choi Hong Hi (my apologies if it's miswritten) developed Tae Kwon Do for the military. Olympic Tae Kwon Do is like Olympic Boxing, points are given according to very different rules than those of normal boxing, MMA, etc.. This style is thus optimized for these rules. BTW, some olympians also fight in MMA and normal boxing.

  • Tae Kwon Do is an art for self defense, one can easily kill knowing the right techniques and knowing how to use your power, speed, etc. the sport is different. the only way to get TKD recognized in the world is through the sport. if we only taught traditional TKD we would never be excepted in the world because we would all look like killers especially if you can't control your body and don't have any discipline. the sport is just a small part of TKD as a whole.
