    • Back in Vancouver canada in the late 90's, I bought a rare hatchback 6 speed Civic VX. Didn't know the importance of it because every 3 weeks I would get notes on the windshield to sell the car. And it had MILES, not Km's like in Canada. I "knew" then after I broke the front axle and left it on a side street for recovery. 5 days later when I returned, there were NOTES on the windshield naming prices they would buy it. I said "who buys cars with a broken axle with above market price? Are they insane?" I had no repair money back then as the insurance co said it was my fault so I sold it double to one guy who had the highest bid. He said he didnt care about the axle, he wanted the engine and the transmission.

  • The 8th gen si actually does have true vtec with shifting cam profiles for intake and exhaust along with VTC. This is only true for the iVTEC k20z3 in the si and the k20a2 in the rsx typeS. The other version of iVTEC in different K series (like k20a3) has only VTC and no shifting cam profiles -like what was mentioned in the video. 8th gen si marks the end of the high revving vtec and should not be overlooked. @Fatmouse25@Fatmouse25 Жыл бұрын
    • @Fatmouse25 I had an 08 FA5. Full-Race turbo kit with a 3076r. The tune 100% eliminated the crossover. Prior to the turbo, when it was just I/H/E and a basic tune... Things got rowdy real fast at crossover. At low rpms, it was just a loud grocery getter.

      @Felrock12@Felrock12 Жыл бұрын
    • @@Felrock12 They actually rode well if you weren't stupid and modified them with garbage, but we were poor. The suspension was great and by comparison, all modern cars are fast. I think part of the charm was the character of the motor and the induction noises, the crossover, the potential, and the aftermarket. I remember always wondering why Honda refused to compete with everyone else with turbos and looking back I get it way more now. Looking back at the history of a motorcycle manufacturers doing everything by themselves and the cars made so much sense in their evolution especially outside of America. Where there were the Cosworths and Yamahas lending their expertise in cylinder head design Honda was doing the same on their own. Cable clutch aside, I'd probably toss the EF in as the trinity. Civic lost me in 06+. I think it was just lacking much character with the non-ergonomic mouse shape. What I dislike about them also was that they felt larger while having less space inside somehow. The competition also plays a huge role and if you compare the experience of a Civic in the 90s to a Cavalier or a Neon of the same time period the difference was staggering. I think the 90s Sentra SE-R actually stood up pretty well and the SR20 was a nice torquey experience. MKIII VR6 maybe? I'm still interested in picking one up after I finish the current build.

      @jinxtacy@jinxtacy Жыл бұрын
    • @@jinxtacy that SE-R interior was plainer than a Neon, and the car's most obvious weakness. But that powertrain was great--a viscous LSD?? Honda had to catch up with the 6th gen Si, what Nissan put in 6 years earlier!

      @deancoronado4898@deancoronado4898 Жыл бұрын
    • @@deancoronado4898 I think a lot of 90s interiors being plain is something I kind of like about them. They seem to hold up better if the plastics don't get too brittle or dashes crack. I think Honda was a bit better with their plastic choices, Toyota was good, and Mazda was very poor in the plastics they used. Then again I think it almost got worse in the 2000s. Personally I dislike "soft touch" quality that journalist rave about after sitting in more than enough aged BMWs and VWs to just see what a mess they turn into in under 100k. Just my preference though. I don't remember too much about an LSD. I just remember it being a torquey experience that seemed to fair well against the Hondas of the day with less HP. You really had to be getting after it to really notice the lack of an LSD at

After owning a 7th gen 2003 Si from 2005-12, then trading that in for a 8th gen 2008 Si sedan that i"ve owned for over 10 years and only 124k miles, I actually opted to treat it to some love & restoration work (like repainting the whole body and repairing everything) instead of trading it in for a newer car and another car payment. I figure that I could either drive it another 10 years or sell it later.

  • Several years ago I got a 98' manual. I had never regretted any of my cars sold but that Civic. I had never felt the greatness and joy to drive again, been looking for another but hard to find. This video brought me a big smile

    • Same. I miss my 97 Civic Si. Was so reliable and great to drive. Now I drive a Mercedes and it's great when it works but man is it unreliable.

  • Well done. I agree with this ranking. And I think you've started something. You could do this with so many car models out there you'd be busy doing it for a while and I'd be watching every bit of it.

  • Man this brings back so many good memories!My first car was a 1979 Civic my parents bought me when I turned 16 in 1988 and I loved it pretty much just because it was a car HAHA.After a couple years I got sick of bogging down if their were 4 people in the car and bought a 1988 Camaro.

  • I had that red '86 back in the 90's. The exact same car. It even had the same sound when you started it. I put 250,000 miles till the engine died. I also had an '85 CRX Si, and an '87 Prelude Si. Love those Hondas.

  • Shoutout to the guys for keeping the 8/9th gen Si hidden gems. They really are the perfect blend of classic and modern Honda. Lightweight, LSD, K series, extremely neutral chassis balance.

  • I bought a brand new Civic in '73. I'll be kind and just say Honda still had a lot to learn about making cars. I didn't by a Honda again until my brand new '89 CRX. Most reliable car I have ever owned, and terrific gas mileage. Honda definitely learned how to build cars.
