    • Hey, unbelievably, Butter bean, who had all but given up on life, is now making a comeback after being trained by pro trainer! His aim is hopefully to get back in to the ring. There's a video here on KZhead that explains what's happening with him in 2024! kzhead.info/sun/mqepqtRloWdul5E/bejne.htmlsi=Acj_S7YcY-h1_vzp

  • My wife (RIP) was a big fan of Butter Bean. He had a fight in Daytona Beach on a weekend and the local rock station "The HOG' had him in on and I think a Thursday morning. I worked w/ a girl who liked him and we were the only 2 in the shop, Port Orange. The main shop was in Ormond beach. I said let's go to see if we can get a signed photo. We got there the door was locked, someone came down and asked why and they let us in to the studio and we talked to them for about 30 minutes. Got my signed photo and if I could pick a neighbor or a roommate, Butter Bean was so cool and nice. He talked to us like we were real people, asked about our families and was really sincere. You don't find that anymore! He almost broke my back and hand w/ a hug and hand shake. Late 1990's, 98, 99 maybe.

  • You can't always judge a book by its cover. Some fat people are highly athletic, can outrun the average Joe, and might be hiding alot of muscles underneath their physique. They probably are often a bit stronger than the average guy from naturally carrying so much weight. Others are just highly skilled and/or have the heart. I remember having to do an obstacle course in 6th grade, one of the best performers was a chubby to fat kid, who was fairly fast, strong and agile. And on the flip side just because someone is ripped necessarily mean they are a great fighter. They might not even be healthy. An extreme lack of body fat at like a bodybuilder competition level could be a liability as they might not have the energy reserves for a grueling match. They might just be unskilled fighters and/or just in a bad matchup.

    • I don't think that is the intention. Most people watching a fight and sees someone in great shape fight someone out of shape will still pick the in shape person and probably will be correct. But the key word is probably as there are other factors than just raw physical fitness that comes into play. Skill, experience, IQ, wisdom, courage, pain tolerance etc. A fight is a fight and not a health competition. But on the flip side not all fat people are a walking health crisis. Some are highly physically active and are in better health than average. And not all in shape people are in good health.

  • There’s a difference in lifting weights in a gym from dealing with weight in real world applications. Having big ripped muscles does not in and of itself make you a good fighter. Bob Sapp is a perfect example of that. Sometimes it can even be counter productive, giving a fighter a psychological confidence that he’s the better fighter because he’s the bigger ripped muscle machine, he’s the better fighter. That is until he’s hit in the snot box and takes a nap on the mat. And you can never forget the old saying “even a blind hog finds an acorn every once in a while”. Meaning no matter how much of a better fighter on is, his opponent will get lucky every once in a while and slip that knockout punch in.

Athletic guys MUST dance around, prodding, pulling energy out of such opponents in order to tire them out. Being confident of victory and rushing in believing that they are superior is their downfall. One hit from these behemoths could spell instant defeat.
