Dramatic Pot Belly Pig at the dog groomers?

Mabel is a spoiled rotten house pig, and she sleeps in the bed with her humans, which means that she requires a bath from time to time as she does not live outside like most pigs.
Mabels owners are on a mission to educate people on how to care for their pot belly pig, and bring awareness to dishonest breeders who lie about selling "mini pigs." Although they bathe their pig at home, it has become increasingly difficult to due her size. That's where I came in. Her owner Maddy is a registered Veterinary Assistant, and she has dreams of one day opening an animal sanctuary specifically for, but not limitted to, abandoned pigs, and I hope her dreams come true! Please subscribe to her channel below and help her reach her goal. No hogs were harmed in the making of this video, only pampered ❤

  • Important to note about anyone considering getting a pig as a pet: there is no such thing as a mini, teacup, or pocket pig. All pigs grow to enormous size. Don't get one thinking it will stay tiny and cute; it will not.

    @jeniphirtaylor-mcintire81@jeniphirtaylor-mcintire812 жыл бұрын
    • Friend of mine found that out the hard way. He bought a potbelly pig about the size of a large puppy. Isn't that cute? Ten years later you could have used that pig's back as a pool table and he was literally strong enough that an adult could ride him. IF you could stay on, because he didn't like it much

      @gator5081@gator50812 жыл бұрын
    • Just to add on, when people sell mini, teacup, or pocket pigs, the pigs are often underfed to make them look smaller.

    • Well, they won't stay tiny, anyway.

      @Ikine557@Ikine5572 жыл бұрын
    • Yes although size in pigs does vary according to breed. It has nothing to do with them being fed food laced with growth supplements, as someone who knew nothing about pigs once insisted to me. What growth supplements do in commercial pig breeding is cause a growth spurt before puberty so when the pig is killed it's obtained maximum weight in the shortest time period . Male pigs can also get a lot bigger than female, so anyone getting a pig needs to remember that.

  • My neighbors had a potbelly pig that looked just like Mabel. His name was Cledus and he was awesome. He escaped one day and found his way into my backyard where my 500+ lb Hereford x Landrace sow lived. It was love at first sight! From that day forward, he would find a way to escape his house at least once a week, trot the 1/2 mile to my house and we would find him outback serenading my big girl through the fence and rubbing noses. And when he was ready to go home he would just come headbutt my front door, I'd give him a treat and then walk him back to his place. This went on for almost 2 years before my old girl passed away. He would still come visit whenever he could. He would go to her old pen, sit quietly for a bit and then come get me and we would hang out for awhile before I brought him home. He just passed away last year and I miss him as if he were my own.

    • Well, grooming an indoor pet pig makes sense, even if it’s way out of the ordinary. She may not be coating her skin with mud like pigs kept with outdoor access, but that skin still produces oils, and needs maintenance to keep her snuggle-worthy inside a home. A friend who is a professional groomer mentioned the skin oils were pretty similar to those in Chesapeake Bay Retrievers; it protects the skin and pretty much keeps them waterproof. However, the oils do build up, and aren’t exactly what owners want their dogs to rub on their carpeting and furniture, so the “keep them civilized for indoors,” baths are necessary.

As for doing damage, they can kill... and EAT you. They're absolutely adorable when they're piglets, but as adults, given the chance, they wouldn't think twice about chowing down on your face... But, to each their own.

Strength plus intelligence meant that they were always trying to break out of their pen-and one day, they actually DID! Thankfully they didnt go far, they just wanted to root in the grass nearby. But my boss had to fix the hole they made in their pen before they could return, so while he did that we sat with the big babies and kept them from rooting too close to our flower garden. They can destroy basically anything, they are scary smart, they can hold a grudge and they are extremely food oriented. Infact, if your pig is _ever_ not interested in food, you have a broken pig. Pigs trotters are not good normally on hardwood floors, you should provide a carpet for them to walk on, if they become spooked(which happens easily) or they step wrong, they can seriously hurt their leg on a slick floor.

The male one grew up around a bit more of one meter in height, and it's weight was more than a hundred kg, with about 12 cm long tusks. It could be a scary sight, when it run up to someone. And it choose to follow the example of my parent's dog - it was about as tall as a dachshund, but otherwise more like a beagle. It was a very small, but really intelligent dog. And it technically trained that piglet, which grew more than 5 times as big as himself to act as a yard-dog. As i said before, the dog was small, and it wasn't an aggressive one, so it rarely scared anyone - but when it begun it's "patrolling" in the yard with that wildboar-like male pig, just a few step away from him, aggressively grunting towards the passersby, there were some surprised reaction... :D

  • I used to work at a petting zoo when I was a teenager. We had a pig as well, and he was SO DRAMATIC. He had to go inside every night when it was closing time, but he never wanted to, so we kind of had to push him. But whenever someone touched him, he would scream like he was being murdered 😂 Other than that he was super sweet, and always shared his food with the goats.

  • Holy Crap. I had a Vietnamese Potbelly as a pet when I was a kid and that pig was the calmest animal I had ever had. Totally chill. Never seen a dramatic one before. Of course we never washed it. Just provided it with a pool of clean waters an hot days of summer and it would bath itself quite effectively. In there natural environments pigs are amounts the cleanest animals as they spend a lot of there time keeping cool in water. This is because they do not sweat to keep cool like humans do and there large size makes their bodies good insulators. They need pools of water to keep cool in summer, which are not provided by farmers. In the absence of this, they will use whatever is wet a substitute. On farms, the only sources available to them is their own urine, feces and mud, giving them a reputation of being dirty. Our pig always had a clean pool to hang out in where it spent more then half the day.

    • Sounds like you all understood that a pig is a pig & not a funny looking dog or a fashion statement. Good! My family had farm hogs when I was a kid, but I've never had experience with the pet breeds. What did you do for your pig in wintertime? Just curious.

      @yzettasmith4194@yzettasmith41942 жыл бұрын
    • @@yzettasmith4194 We had a small house for it. And I say "it" because we lived on a farm and did not get it initially as a pet so we never bothered to determine it's gender or give it a name. It was initially there to eat up all the food waste left by the other animals as some were sloppy eaters. Anyways, its house was not like a dog house but more like a barn. It wasn't an indoor pig as we only thought of it as a pet after a few years do to it being very sociable. The house we had for it was heated to a comfortable temperature and it did not need or want to be in water in those conditions. It left its area very clean, didn't poop or pee inside it's living space. It would go outside to do it's business in winter but was otherwise in its house. During summer it would only sleep there and would spend the rest of the day outside, mostly in or around the pond.

  • I'm in love with a Pig!! When my kids were growing up, I wanted three Newfoundland dogs (we had one, and I noticed Maddy has a St. Bernard) and a pot-bellied pig. Watching her get a bath, eating, and, of course, listening to her people's songs was so wonderful. I am now following her and her finds on Instagram. Thank you for all the good that you do:)

  • I took care of potbellied pigs before, and oh my god the drama. One in particular would freak out like she was being hauled off to the dungeon every time I herded her back into the shed every night. Freenie, this is a comfy straw bed you happily share with two other pigs and you have the run of the place all day STOP SCREAMING.

  • My grandma used to say that back when the city was smaller (and the bridges were functional, before the main river got tubed and covered by a very wide street with trees in the middle), an elderly couple used to walk their very large pig and their goose on the weekends. She said they were thrilled to be outside their farm and very well behaved. She didn't know if they were visiting someone on the other side of the river, or if they just went out for a nice walk. Such sweet beautiful animals.
