Citroen C5 Aircross - Comfy is Chic (ENG) - Test Drive and Review
Don’t be fooled by C5 in it’s name. Citroen C5 Aircross is a crossover, and it’s not related to the C5 sedan. In terms of dimensions Citroen C5 Aircross slots somewhere between the C4 Picasso and Grand Picasso. It’s slightly larger than Peugeot 3008, similar to Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace, and slightly smaller than Honda CR-V.
Starting price: 23 290 euro
As tested: ~41 000 euro

Noisy???...tested it in January, and that day was raining and windey...what a difference between my Laguna Coupe, relaxed silence in the Citroen, ...also tested that month, the new Renault Scenic, Jeep Compass and Peugeot 3008, ….Citroen was definitely the best choice..believe me!!! have to wait untill June……..Ps. My son also tested it,...and said: it's soooo much better then my friend's Range Rover Evoque
I agree. Not sure for other engines but the 1.2 is very quiet.
In contrast to the dull VW Group look-a-likes, PSA did a fantastic job with the DS7, Cit 5AC, Opel Grandland and Peu 3008. These cars have very different 'personalities' all the while being highly attractive.
I would hardly call VW Tiguan dull, especially when you compare it to Citroen C5 - the VW beats it hands down in every department -
Just bought one 2 months and I'm not disappointed, I suffer from back issue's and am quite tall. This car is easy for me to get in and out of and is very comfortable. It's also extremely easy to drive long distances and has plenty of space. You mentioned the back seats not having much leg room, my brother is bigger than me and his wife isn't short either but they were comfortable in the back for a 2 hour journey. All in all a good buy, look no car in this price range is going to tick every box, but if you want a good quality feel to your ride with all the modern conveniences in a package that stands out a little more than the average SUV family cross this car is in the running. My shortlist was the Peugeot 3008, the Ford Kuga and the Kia sportage I chose the C5 aircross because it's a little better value for money and it really does feel comfortable to drive, the steering is very light and feels a bit disconnected but you don't buy a car like this for a sharp responsive drive, my humble opinion, Comfort 5/5. Tech 4/5 (got everything but could be a little easier to use). Space 4/5 (very good). Driving enjoyment 4/5 (a little light and spongy but so easy to drive it's a pleasure, but if you want a lively responsive car maybe look elsewhere).
Thanks for clarifying the legroom topic on the back seats! I also have spine issues and I'm curious if the seat offers enough lumbar support.
which motor do you have ?
About the same time I helped a friend choose a new car and he choose this one exactly the same reason you mentioned: being tall, having back problems and this car being very comfortable and easy to to go in and out. All in all it is a very nice car to be in.
This comment offers a better summary review than the actual review Marek did 😂. Sorry Marek, but you normally are shifted to the critic side despite reviewing a mid size SUV under $40k
@theantilifeequation8150 - the Kia Sportage 2.0 L Diesel would be the preferred vehicle and is much better than this French car by far
It is a beautiful car. The only thing they (Citroen/DS/Pegeout) are not doing right in my opinion, is removing all the buttons for the A/C. Those should remain physical buttons/ knobs! I previously owned a Pegeout 3008 and it becomes annoying after a while. If you are on navigation and have to switch the display every time you want to increase/decrease temperature or speed! Having to do everything in the screen it's just not practical when you are driving! When are the brands moving away from this new "fashion"!?
Really like Marek's car reviews. Together with Autogefühl for me the best car review channel. Keep going!
Thanks a lot!
Great looking car all around! I really like the brown interior.
Another great review, thanks for sharing.
I’m surprised about your comment about soundproofing, all other reviewers on KZhead or in the press noted very good soundproofing performances with double laminated side windows, it was only regular without this option. Anyway, I think it’s a very good looking car, very distinctive and instead of trying to make a dynamic car (which is kind of stupid to do with SUVs, if you really want a dynamic car, get a sedan or a station wagon if you want some cargo room), they focused on the comfort, which is what families want, especially with independent seats. I think they played it well and it will find its clients for sure.
Can you link to any of these "very good soundproofing" reviews? Were these first drive launch event reports or proper reviews on domestic soil?
I agree with Christian 100%, it's a very silent car. I've driven Feel in Vilnius and Shine in Tallinn. Feel version is quiete enough, but Shine is very silent! There are many reviewers, who underline good soundproofing as well. Here is the one, kzhead.info/sun/l5iTmq99eqOQfI0/bejne.html (15:00). So I am very surprised too to hear such a verdict from Marek.
@@MarekDrives I watched a lot of video so I'm not sure which ones (but really, most of them said it was very quiet with this window option), but they were mostly French ones (I'm French). I watched both pre-production and normal car reviews. This video below, from Carwow says it's very quiet too. And they're British, they hate French cars LOL kzhead.info/sun/l5iTmq99eqOQfI0/bejne.html
@Christian Marcel @Michail Kazimianec As much as I like Matt's reviews, it's his word against mine. Let's just say we drive the same cars, and we sometimes have very different opinions. Best take the Aircross for a test drive, and decide for yourselves. I am Polish. We hate everyone :)
How would you compare it to the Hyundai Tucson? I currently have a high end Tucson, 1.6l turbo DCT 7 in the US and I’ll move back to France next year and consider the Aircross to replace my Tucson. What do you think?
Noisy? Its very quite, even at 80mph
@banpowel9784 - did you measure the sound with a dB meter or are you simply guessing subjectively ??
Excellent review. A very neutral review just basically telling the facts about the car.
Great review as always - I actually quite like the look of this car but the lack of buttons on the infotainment a/c is a complete deal breaker for me. Do you know if you will be reviewing the Mercedes B Class anytime? So far that's the only thing I'm seeing that interests me as a possible replacement for our (underwhelming) 2016 Qashqai - any other suggestions welcome too!
Looks great!! French are doing a good job!
I want one, love it
Citroen C5 Aircross is maybe not stunning like Peugeot 3008 but is still stunning car.
Bravo men!
Marek Finnish car journalists say that aircross is very silent car, I'm confused..
What's the speed limit on Finnish motorways?
120 summer 100 winter.
Hard to say, There’s no finnish line on Finnish motorways ...
It is very silent, I have driven it!
@TheStrongarm80 At 130 (speed limit on Polish motorways is 140) it's pretty loud inside. Possibly winter tires could also be an issue, but IMO it was mainly wind noise.
It's a silent car. I dont understand why you say it's a loud car...?
Just test drove one, super quiet and refined.
Marek, is the small diesel with 131 HP and automatic transmission OK ? strong enough ?
No idea. Never drove one.
Great car nd not noisy at all
This guy reviewing the car sound like he is making revenge against Cotroen cars 😂
Actually no, but keep watching.

@Wells Benedict you are welcome xD
I was looking forward to this car as my grandad had GS you mentioned in the video and CX which I still have (dont use daily ofc), those cars were avangarde cars but functional. This C5 aircross... well A/C section ruins it for me, than the dash. Being comfortable is the way to go and I like it but A/C control kills it for me. As it seems C6 os still the last real citroen.
They aren't even trying anymore...it's like a Peugeot masked as a Citroen.
lovely car just a few niggles, 1 stop start wont stay on unless you keep your foot on brake. 2 cant find heated seat control if there is one, 3mpg is only 30 mpg if you drive like you have a glass of water on the bonnet, (automatic)
Thanks for review....I has own Citroen GS YN 5L (Actually GSA, where one spoke wheel and lotttttssss of tech features) yearly 90th....Since then I love Citroen, but did not buy :).... P.S. Marek there sun glares on LCD screens while footage....suggest to shadow windows form sunny side...
GSA is a lovely car. I was looking for one, but it's hard to find a decent example with a fully functional dashboard (with rev counter instead of a clock or citroen logo).
@@MarekDrives mine GSA has clock instead of rev counter..... And no breaks on front wheels appear when i remove wheel first time for swap for winter tires... Lol..
Sent me pics on fb /marekdrives. I'd love to see it!
Citroen C5 AC is a great car. Shame it isn't electric
Coming yr way!
It's looks like a gaming car
¿Coche ruidoso?...¿Dificil de subirse?...menudo nivel el de los probadores de coches... Es el coche más confortable y silencioso que he tenido en años.
Hello Marek, can a person who 2 meters tall be able to sit and drive this car comfortably???
Depends on the 2m tall person's expectations.
@@MarekDrives I wish to know if a 2-meter tall guy could (drive) this car comfortably, would it still be a good fit? Your answer will determine whether I by this car or not?
I have had one now for just over a month. I get back ache the same as I did in my C5 2010 they look the same seat. I went through a car wash and forgot to turn the sensors off, and going through I could not reach the screen to turn them off because of the constant alarming. Other than that I still like the car . C5 Aircross Flair+ 2Ltr Diesel, And the other thing I bought it for towing a caravan and I can't get a Tow Bar for it yet. Got that off my chest :)
Frank Rudd cars shouldn’t go anywhere near a car wash ,hate to see what your paintwork is like up close ! Plus can’t see how you get backache with those seats as they are the most comfortable I’ve ever sat in and yes I do have a bad back . Also I own one of these but mine is the 1.6 petrol flair plus as I don’t do the mileage for a diesel .
@@alanswainson2683 I have used IMO car washes for the past 10 years, they use very soft brushes and an odd wiping system but seems to work I would recommend them. It seems the Engine management system is not good for multitasking. The seats may be a bit softer but I find it's the shape at the bottom at the pivot point digs in my back as did my old C5 from a few years ago. As for the Tow bar still pi*sed off about it.
Noise? In a C5 AC? Well, as long as 'Weird Sex Games" (1.01) crossed your mind while testing this fab car, I do consider the 'loud' criticism as an erroneous remark. Guess your mind drifted to how "WSG" would feel in a super comfy Cit. backseat. Yeah, that certainly will create noise. We envy & forgive you that backseat encouter. B/c MD otherwise uploads great reviews.
Buy any of the diesel models which have great torque ,60's mpg and the best resale values of the range. Not a big fan of petrol hybrids from personal experience.
Based on user comments here C5 Aircross is rather a quiet car than noisy one. Would be interesting to know what kind of tyres were used in the test car. Looks very low profile to my taste.
Nice review, polish Matt Damon and or Mark Wahlberg.
Hey cool! A Sony phone!
You obviously don't like this car which annoyingly is very noticeable throughout the whole review.
Not true. I actually like it quite a lot.
What are you talking about? This is the quitest suv in the segment, maybe you tested RR Evoque just before you enter C5 Aircross which is half of price of RR. I strongly recommand to all jurnalist, before REVIEW of any vehicle in low or mid segment NOT to drive and than COMPARE with premium segment alternative (it should be gap at least few weeks to forget why that vehicles are twice as much). You obviosly miss leading the public.
How I can buy this car ??!
Dude, you can walk on water, so how's buying any car a problem for you?
Go to a ford dealer..
anyway im agree with you peugeot cars like 508 or 3008 are very expensive
3008 is one of the cheapest compact crossovers. At least in Poland.
@sic22l not according to the official price list, but I guess nobody buys cars for the sticker price.
@Marek Drives Unless you're opting for the fully spec'd car list prices are pretty decent as well.
@sic22l In that case base 3008 is more expensive than base Tiguan :)
The main drawback inthis car is lack of leg space in the back they could have increased the leg space and decrease the bootspace
as successful as the french defence........HAHAHAHAHAHAHA :):) you re the best Marek!
So polish people are bad at driving also , not just games :))
Getting one....just saying!
Judging by all the comments below, after Citroen started looking like no-Citroen everyone likes how Citroen looks. Another individualistic icon lost in the the spirit of Globalisation. One fit for all.
No, Citroen is not protecting the convenient, medium sized C4 Spacetourer (former Picasso) - they cancelled the production! No more C4 Spacetourers available. What a pity! Now there is a huge gap between the large, expensive C5 Aircross and the small C3 Aircross (which does not offer efficient, usable driving assistants except park assist).
ittrax what about the c4 cactus?
@@svendolenielsen3569 Thanks, but C4 cactus only has a height of 148 cm. I'm starting to belong to "elderly people" and while right now I start looking for the last car that I'll probably buy, I need something with higher seat position because of problems with my back. Anyway, while visiting Citroen showrooms during the past days I couldn't see/find any cactus there. And I guess it does not offer driving assistants like adaptive cruise control etc.
What are you talking about? There still is a c4 spacetourer. Could it be that they don't sell it in the country you live anymore?
@@hsvcommodore4111 After I was unable to configure a C4 Spacetourer at the Citroen website I asked Citroen and got that answer. It seems production was stopped in January and they are just selling the remaining cars now.
ittrax i still can confugure one where i live........they also had one at the geneva motor show with a new special edition, it would surprise me if they ended production now. + they just changed the name a few months ago.....
Yeah the car is comfy and all but that infotainment system is an absolute dealbreaker.
Use Android Auto or Apple Car Play.
It's more about stupid stuff like the A/C being controlled by it and it having no physical buttons, I'm not asking for mid 2000's Volvo but they should consider a little bit more practicality, it's been 5 years since the first Cactus and it was a dealbreaker and it always will be. The Germans where leading in terms of practicality and are getting swallowed by "futuristic" design, Kia and Hyundai's interior is currently the peak for usability.
I agree infotainment is crap, but I will turn a blind eye to the climate control settings. I change temperature 2-3 times a year. That piano black panel with touch buttons is a problem though.
To me it looks like they were compromising in favor of good looks and comfort. The french are infamous for that.
Another great review but lose the snazzy sunglasses Marek, you poser.
You don't like Citroen. Why?
Why do you assume I don't like it?
VAG bribe-money blitzkrieg conquers?
Best thing about the US is Dollywood, the worst thing about the US is Dollywood. The best thing about Citroen is the quirkiness, the worst thing about Citroen is the quirkiness.....go figure
The french public is very severe with their own country's product. But when i come here, I see a big majority of positif comments. I think its disapoiting.
It is a nice car, despite some quirks.
Every Citroen fan, let alone the French must be disappointing by Citroen taking such a turn from its original philosophy and using a generic recipe, cut from the same cloth as every other car brand out there in the world. There is nothing distinctive about this car making it a 'Citroen' more a Toyota is made a 'Citroen' there days. Bahhhh
Frenchman has problems with awd I think.
Don’t know this car, but as a general rule PSA products give a sort of hollow sensation. Perhaps a result of lower weight effort, perhaps lower cost in soundproofing. This and the stupid current trend of everything through the touch screen, are really the only criticisms I have on the otherwise fine line of very good cars.
The French is going to far in menus, I have a Talisman as company car and adjust instrument lights is four submenus down, and that is split in two sections Puh!
@@claudebinette1881 I only compared French pedagogy in the menu, no other comparisons in general.
It appears the French auto industry across the board will be conceding manufacturing of autos to the Japanese and shortly Korea. Truly a shame. Engineering longevity is a last consideration. Maybe they feel customers will keep one eye or both closed to the glaring shortfalls of its automobiles. Pity
that one stupid disigner
Obviously better than the Citroen C3 Aircross which is a pile of shite and probably the worse car I've driven. No real connection with the road, steering too light, wishy washy gearbox and huge body roll.
It has some dacia duster vibes ...
Yeah, in the front and the handling..
may well have, a certain french connection between Renault and PSA. This, though, may not be what the designers at Citroen wanted to hear. Duster probably costs less then half of this one, while looking and performing about the same.
Sooooo stupid comments, Drive, sit, look and compare
I dont see this as a proper Citroen. It's like the brand will cease to exist in the shape of what it used to be.
good because their old cars are shit
so much negativity..
This guy with full of negativity.
In what way?
same old story , Marek is allergic to every thing french . visit a doctor Marek .
It's rather the French, who are allergic to usability. But I actually like the C5 Aircross, so it's you, who should see a doctor, because you're imagining things.
Great video. The car couldn’t be uglier
Actually it could be. Check Skoda Karoq or Seat Tarraco.
Marcin those are beauties compared to this thing
@@fofocho71 You are the first man on earth saying that VAG's low-end SUV is a beauty. Hope the last one too...
Marcin I said “compared to”
Matter of taste ... IMHO its looks good
the engine is made from plastic. this car will be an endless moneypit.
Not really, as long as you have a warranty...
No, its not a VAG (Skoda, Seat, VW, Audi) with defective DSG transmissions TSI turbos and oil consumption of 1L / 100 km. VAGs have a host of expensive problems. The latest VAG-failure is the twitchy 110kw 1.5 TSI. THOSE are moneypits.
The more I learn about this car, the less I like it. And it's pretty expensive for what it is. I tried sitting in one and couldn't wait to get out of it. The lesser C models mentioned in the video are total crap.
Ahhhh French cars. So much wonderful nonsense.
It’s looks horrible l used to have a GS and loved it. But this thing looks like it’s been designed by a comity, that didn’t see each other’s designs
"comity" I love French cheese.
If you think this is a good looking car, and you're a man, I'd hate to see the women you've married
