Breaking Down Boxing Styles | Craft Your Signature Strategy
Complete training program that will help you go from complete beginner to an advanced boxer - koboxingpackage.weblium.site
There are 4 main styles and one sub-style:
Outfighter:
Usually, tall guys with good reach keep distance, have good footwork, throw light fast punches with the lead hand, and hard heavy punches with the rear hand, move in & out, mostly move backward and go forward when smelling blood. Main weakness - short-range fights. Examples: Muhammad Ali, Wladimir Klitschko
Infighter:
Usually, short guys, cut distance, have good head movement, throw well-balanced fast/hard combos on the inside. Main weakness - they always have to stay within their opponent's reach. Examples: Mike Tyson, Joe Frazier
Slugger:
Tall or short, it doesn't matter; these fighters are usually slow but have vicious power and focus on landing one heavy punch. Weakness - having troubles fighting quick boxers who make them miss. Examples: George Foreman, Sonny Liston.
Puncher:
Basically a mix of all styles. These fighters throw many fast and hard punches. Usually aggressive and get into punch exchanges. Main weakness - don’t specialize in one style and may get a lot of damage because of aggressiveness. Examples: Manny Pacquiao, Arturo Gatti
Counter-puncher:
It is the sub-style, and its techniques can be used in combination with any other style. Usually, these are not very aggressive and smart fighters who make you miss and then punish you. This style is about hitting and not getting hit, so it doesn’t have any significant weaknesses. Examples: Floyd Mayweather Jr, Saul Alvarez
Of course, everything depends on the fighter’s level, but usually:
Outfighters counter sluggers
Infighters counter outfighters
Sluggers counter infighters
Analyze your:
- Body type
- Speed/power ratio
- Temperament
- Boxing school
You can always mix styles, and you should always work not only on the strengths of your style but also on its weaknesses.

I thought I'd be an outfighter because I'm tall with very long arms, but I discovered very quickly how much power I can generate from my arms. I became somewhat of a pursuer to my sparring partners. I suppose I was very scary because I often made people run away! haha, I'd back all my opponents into the ropes and overwhelm them with my range. I learned how to counter effectively, and from there it was kind of set in stone. I became a very aggressive and punishing brawler, with a mixing style of in and out fighting. Transitioning to outfighter whenever my opponent would make range, and switching back to an brawler infighter whenever my opponent got caught up on the ropes. My head movement made it super difficult to land solid blows on me, I remember one time sparring, while dodging a straight punch, i had moved as much as I could which resulted in the punch hitting ONLY my nose! I didn't even notice it bleeding till someone pointed it out to me. Unfortunately, money situation is bad and the economy isn't great right now. So I can't go to the gym anymore I used to train at, but I really want to go back and get boxing. I really miss the sport... Combat is truly my biggest passion in life.
Good stuff man! Thx for sharing your experience and strategy Hope you’ll figure out the money situation and will get back to boxing soon
You can practice technique and footwork without sparring or going to a gym. Its not the best, but it should keep your technique in form, shouldnt it?
Thank you from bottom of my heart. In my country they do not teach people like me how to box so your videos really help
It's my pleasure to help 🙌

I do Muay Thai, but was interested in different ways to implement these different types of styles, and this video helped out so much!
That’s cool to know! Never thought that it may be helpful for Muay Thai fighters
Hey, your videos are so well informed! I didn't really know what style my coach was teaching me, but when you mentioned the 3 range stances from the Puncher style i figured it out! My physique also matches the Puncher style perfectly. My coach also teaches a bunch of outboxing techniques, so we dont get hit as much as a normal puncher.
Glad it was helpful! It feels awesome to read your feedback
I've learned Boxing from the internet one time, and then I got introduced to your videos. I love your videos, amazing! Btw, I love the Slugger style, it looks cool and strong. I do self taught boxing since I have no boxing coach.
That’s good to hear that I help you out on your boxing journey 🙌

Sorry to ask, but can you make a video about cross guard? I really need tips with that.@@akhotinbxng

Thank you sir for the great video. You inspired me to become a boxer

Nice informative video
Thanks
As an Aussie learning this thank you
You’re welcome
Thanks bro your videos help me a lot. I’m 5’9 at 14 who are taller than kids at my age so I have become more of an out fighter.
Good stuff! Glad to hear that it was helpful
With all of what you said, Andrii, here's my thoughts on what I think my boxing style would be (IF I would be one cuz' I'm still a kid lol. Hey, I'm the guy from one of your recent shorts): - For body type, I'm 128 pounds, have a pretty long reach in my opinion (I know since I suck at doing push-ups like all the other long-arm people), and I'm atleast an average height for my age. - For my speed/power ratio, I can hit both fast and heavy punches with nice power. - For my temperament, I usually doesn't want to be the aggressor and try to keep myself safe from punches while simultaneously looking for gaps and angles to throw my punches. - For my boxing school, well... I'm just a regular kid using his dad's KZhead account who likes boxing, not a kid who devotes their entire life on boxing (Not me. I also really manga and watch anime). But, if I would guess, I would be in American or Vietnamese boxing schools, cuz' I'm from Vietnam (You can guess my username is Vietnamese), and I've been in America. With all of these in mind, my best choice (For now) would be Out-fighter (I call it Out-boxer). These are just my thoughts, and, IF my fate/destiny would be a professional boxer one day, you can give any responses on what should I improve for my boxing style (Like should I add counterpunching? Should I use other strategies perfect for an Out-fighter? Should I use what I would call variations of each boxing style like the Soviet style for an Out-fighter? Etc.) Thanks for reading this, Andrii. :)
Hey! That’s a good analysis. You can pick and combine a few styles at the same time so you can be an outfighter, pincher and counter puncher at the same time and use the best skill set depending on the situation
@@akhotinbxngit’s always good to have many techniques in your arsenal. that can apply to anything. especially martial arts.
@@akhotinbxngThanks Andrii! I'll be watching your videos and shorts when you release them because I really need to be in shape, especially for adulthood (And also for fun). If I would add anything, it would be Switch-hitter because I can fight with Southpaw the exact same performance I can with Orthodox (And I'm comfortable with fighting with both stances). I would try to research on what pincher is and I need to work on counter-punching.
Can you make a series for people including me who box at home without a coach...love the vid👍🏿
I have a training program for people who train alone. You can check if here koboxingpackage.weblium.site
Thank you! Here in Mexico all the coaches just want you to be a slugger JC Chávez style, no matter your height usually they just want you to learn infighting
Coaches just teach what they know best and often don’t care about personal approach to everyone
nice video
Thanks 💪
great video andrii. super english too.
Thank you 👊
I tried to be a boxer puncher like sugar ray leonard , floyd (during his pretty boy days) and terence crawford.. Even though im short for my weight class, i have good reach and a good jab and can outfight but its like something wasnt right with me, it didnt feel natural to me and forced...sometimes i would waste too much time just running during sparring..if you look at it another way, my defence became very good but i didnt feel good myself ..I tried too hard to be something i wasnt.. Now i have a style which is much closer to golovkin or berterbiev... I also have a good chin as told by everyone in my gym , even coach said im better as a pressure fighter
Great that you found what suits you better after some time of excrements 🔥
Man I love your videos i wanted to ask what are the pros and cons of being a switch hitter? I use it a lot in my class because it’s very tricky for my opponent to deal with and I can change my style depending on the stance I take, but are there some cons to switching between southpaw and orthodox while fighting?
Hey! There are a few advantages like being more versatile, unpredictable and harder to deal with but I can’t think of any disadvantages
@@akhotinbxng mmmm so basically I’m just limited to the actual efficiency I can perform my switch
This is the only time I relized that I was a slugger
👍
Question for Andrii: In the Russian Soviet style, which might be found in the Ukrainian Soviet style as well, maybe, there is a small jump when transitioning between punches e.g. A jump Soviet jab then a jump when throwing the cross when executing the so called "jumping one two". My Coach thinks it is faster, more economical (less energy expenditure), and more powerful simply to throw the "normal one two" by normal I mean the short jab followed immediately by the cross also known as the "Western European one two" or "British Boxing one two". Now that I have provided context what purpose does the jumping while transitioning between punches serve that the Western one two does not?
That jump helps you maintain your rhythm, throw punches faster and gets you in and out of range quicker so you’re less likely to get hit
Man summed up my entire being in one video
Hah 😅
Can you make a video how to do shadow boxing and thanks for the videos❤👊🏼
Will note that for later 🤝
Thank you dude for your hard work 🫡
Thank you for the video. I wanted to ask, what if I have a long reach, but my height is below average and my weight (147 pounds 173 cm).Which style in that case is suitable for me?
Hey! Good question, you can use outfighter style in combination with puncher/counterpuncher. Check out Crawford who has long reach and he fights taller guys sometimes
Hey bro im about 5"8, im light on my feet and i like to dip in and get out quick, but sometimes i naturally shell up and go close range, similar to an in fighter. Im intermediate and im struggling to find my style. Im 60kg so im a featherweight. What style do you suggest for me?
You can combine different styles at the same time. I would recommend to make the puncher style your main one as it is the most well balanced one
@@akhotinbxng thank you bro
I want to ask you I am a outfighter but I am not tall so my sparringmate recommends me to be a infighter should I change my style completely or should I combine parts of it and keep my style
Good question! I would recommend to combine both of the styles. You can watch Usyk as he moves around, steps in, hits you and then keep moving around. A good example of how the styles may be combined
@@akhotinbxng thank you very much I will watch Usyk so I can analyse his style so I can use it.
Es normal que con la guardoa tradicional me canseas pero con la de mabos bajas no?
Yeah that happens, that’s why it’s a good idea to use different kinds of guards
Can you make a video on starting boxing late at 17+
Will note that in my ideas list
Nice Video! I‘m Not Tall(5‘8/1,74M) but I have a Long reach (75inches/ 190cm). Weich Style Would suit me the Most? In or outfighter?
Wow those are some long hands. I would combine outfighting with puncher. Check out Bud Crawford
So uh, almost 6 months of boxing and like, i found out im a weird mix of an outfighter and slugger, my right arm is fast and really packs a hit, but i tend to use the left to just sink it in with all, tends to be fun ngl. One sets up for a finish or hard hit, and the other just punches hard
That’s good that you found your own way of fighting
I have a question I have a lot of power on both arms like my jabs actually does damage what type of style would that be I am advrage height
That sounds like a slugger but it also depends on other aspects
Hey Andrii, i strated boxing 4 months ago and did first Sparring this week, realised i couldn't defend and was clinching whole time. How can i practice defense, blocks at home?
Ideally just ask someone to throw light punches at you. If that’s not possible you can do shadow boxing and use training materials from my channel (virtual sparrings)
Okay, thank you very much🥊
I like doing outboxer style and I like distance, but I'm small any suggestions?
You can combine outfighting with infighting. Check out how Usyk fights in the heavyweight
Im tall (177cm) and not heavy (60-62kg) and that means im Otfighter and keep the long range. But im more agresive in a fight and i would not like to be Otfighter (but if its the best option for me its ok cuz i love the Pendalum step). What do you suggest me? If i have to be Otfighter i will be but i really wamna punch cuz i got power and im kinda fast.
You can combine outfighting with puncher style. Just put the pressure from the long range
@@akhotinbxng Ok, that means im something like slugger. Im trying to end the game with 1 punch but from long distance right? But im work a lot the body too, bro sorry but u are the best one who i can ask. How am i supposted to work the body, punch hard and also otfight cuz im gonna be in proboems from inside? I will understand you if u dont wanna answer its ok. Thx
can you analysis naoya inoue style?
Yeah, he’s main style is puncher but there’s more to it
What gloves do you use?
Title gel
How can i decide my fist is really heavy and im tall but im not out fighter i cant even go back I always go forward and i always put my guard away
And I always witch side I can do orthodox and sout paw
Help me decide
You can be a tall slugger. Also you can meet your opponents at the long range and use the long guard to keep them from getting close
I feel like i am a slugger, i may have a skinny frame but i am a heavy hitter, my friend was throwing death hooks at me and my guard ate those hooks for lunch, then he tried to hit me with something like kamogawas famous iron fist scene in hajime no ippo, but i countered him with a uppercut to the liver. Unfortunately he has a lot of determination and he got back up and i got folded 40 seconds later because he grazed my nose with a hook ànd i received the solar plexus straight right. Im a tank but one punch hard enough and that will really hurt me, i pressure people but oh boy if im mad i will sacrifice my own fists so my opponent gets hurt.
You’re a beast 😤
I started boxing a few weeks ago. When sparring, I easily pushed to the ropes. How to escape when the opponent succeed to cut the distance?
more footwork. ignore the pressure. more jabs.spatial awareness(always keep in mind where you are). keep the distance(assuming you are tall). if you are short and getting pushed to the ropes, i might be because you are letting him pressure you too often. you both have the same advantage in close range.
@@recurio Thanks bro i will improve my footwork. In that spar i just spam pendulum step and step back until hit the ropes and yea im tall. However my sparring partner are 20-30 kg heavier than me, i cant ignore the pressure, every hook feels like a bomb.
Circle to the sides and change direction in your movement more. Once on the ropes use the triangle step and look for an opportunity to quickly go to the side or fight back hard to make him reduce the pressure
@@akhotinbxng triangle step....I'll keep that in mind, thank you very much.
I’m an in and out animal style.
😤
Im Out-fighter what should style i use?
That which controls space, both within and ring and between you and your opponent. You should always seek to dictate the range of engagement: If you have the reach advantage, keep the exchanges at long range and don't let your opponent get close so he can work in close range. control the space with lateral, horizontal and circular footwork. Master the jab and keep it versatile, it will be your bread and butter. learn to throw it hard, fast, soft, whipping, in bunches, from different angles or as a setup for your power punches. if you can jab in 6+ different ways, your opponent will not be able to read it and you will land exponentially more hits. if you have good reflexes, incorporate more head movement and counter punch when your opponent misses. if you don't, then take the hit on your guard and "follow him back" with a counter punch
Good advice
There’s an answer in your question :)
*pressure fighter left the chat*
Hah, pressure fighters are often a combo of slugger, puncher and infighter
@@akhotinbxng oh aight 👍
