Zippo Lighter Restoration repair and refill

Restoration and repair of broken zippo lighter plus correct fluid refill. Today I restore a relatively new lighter with a beautiful sexy lady keyhole motive on it.
This zippo lighter is not very old. A subscriber on KZhead sent it to me to restore. He wrote that it has been laying in the water outside his house for some time now and wanted to challenge me do the restoration and make it work again. I accepted the challenge.
Restoration Process
I started with loosen up the parts with WD40 rust remover. The zippo lighter inside case was stuck in the zippo bottom case. It was not only the rust, someone/something ran over it for sure. When loose I separated all the parts and cleaned them all with the methods that I found necessary for this restoration.
I chose to sandblast the metal motive and the lighter case + hand grind the lighter outer case with grit 1500 paper to get rid of the plating and get that beautiful brass visible again. I loaded the sandblaster with glass beads to achieve perfect results when sandblasting on cast iron. I use only 80 psi pressure on my air compressor when sandblasting.
In this video I also describe how to refill fluid correctly on your Zippo lighter and show you where you can spare an extra flint.

    • Hey, love your videos, you are catching very good camera angles and details. Do you film with one camera? I see that your camera is focusing very well, what model it is? Where are you located? I repair power tools and now I have drill thats need to be restored and I have old Makita drywall screwdriver I repaired it, but I need to restore metal case...

  • As a Zippo collector, I must say... Man, what a great job! I thought that I was giving proper maintenance to my own lighters, until I saw this. I learned a lot, and I'm thankful for it. Now, about the fluids... It depends for what you're going to use it really. The original fluid has very good qualities, since it burns slow, useful for prolonged uses before refill, and because it's odorless, a most-have feature for a smoker. Other fluids have one quality or the other, bur rarely both. If the burning is good, then it's very smelly; If it doesn't smell, then it burns a lot of fluid on very little time.

  • I have no idea why I enjoy these lighter videos. But I watch fascinated to the end. Perhaps it’s from seeing Zippos in the hands of so many of my family, or the memories around the ones from military personnel and how much they were loved by them. Or maybe it’s the little bit of WD-40 and the amazing containers of various liquids. Could the cooler filled with beer…. Or the tools…I remember refilling my Dad’s Zippo, putting in the new flint and the smell of the lighter fluid.

    • Zippo would have repair it. But not the insert; those get replaced & the original returned to the owner. I've had a few repaired by Zippo. Clever touch with the snappy Titanic reference, btw. I wonder how many people know that's not possible because timeline.

      @Bob9961@Bob9961 Жыл бұрын
    • @@Bob9961 Zippo absolutely would not have repaired this. They would have offered a replacement from their current range. The restoration of this lighter is very skillful. I have sent some Zippos back for repair, they are great at redoing hinges, but any 'restoration' of the case is just something they don't tackle. On one of my dads old lighters, they offered a replacement case (current range) rather than repair damage...

There is an unspoken expectation by the viewer that if someone shoots, edits, reviews, and posts a video then each shot or framed close up matters and it doesn't need pointed out. I'm fine with what the video is about but really do not like the pointing. I didn't dislike but I kinda wanted to...
