  • Only problem I see is how do they stay open when going through an animal? If you can push the blades back with your fingers..?

    @bjamin3870@bjamin38706 ай бұрын
    • 15lbs of spring force keeps them open so thats enough force to keep them open in the animal. but i'd imagine they will collapse exiting through the ribs and leave a small exit hole. also im going to guess they don't expand completely in dense tissue if the blades are anything but perfectly sharp. but maybe meat cuts easier when its being cut super fast.... you can throw a knife into a tree deeper than you can stab it so maybe theres some similarity with meat...

      @nicholas2932@nicholas29326 ай бұрын
    • Exactly, how will they stay open? If u can push them closed that easily with your fingers, no way are they going to stay open while blowing thru an animal.

      @vrod1136@vrod11366 ай бұрын
    • Here's another thought. Why wouldn't we want them a bit closed? We really want a pass ? But fail to get it consistently with big mechanical brawdheads. So what if these brawdheads prevent the arrow from too much resistance, enabling it to collapse and pass through tough areas and expand through the organs. Keeping enough moment to consistently provide a pass through of the deer.... now I'm sure these wernt designed for that purpose, but its an interesting thought... but to visualize how this brawdhead would stay open. What's easier, slowly pushing a knife through cardboard or quickly stabbing it... the slicing of a blade is far more efficient so 15lbs of outward force slicing at 200fps would probably be enough to keep them open.

      @nicholas2932@nicholas29326 ай бұрын
    • @vrod1136 as a butcher and a hunter, warm meat slices extremely easy, with a razor blade like these, 15lbs of spring force is 15× more than is necessary for slicing meat. Also, with passing by ribs, rather than bend the blade upon impact, they spring back, then redeploy, again, at 600+mph, (triple the speed the arrow is flying at) and return to slicing the internal organs, and they'll do the same upon exit. Also, in my experience, with cryo treated blades, assuming a proper heat treatment first, and depending on the exact cryo process, you can see between 10 and 40% durability increase over standard.

Yes, the deer died, found all but one that left zero blood and showed no signs of being hit even though in the video you can see the arrow go in and come out. I've used swats in the past, and will be switching back to them this year, and will be trying an ozcut fixed blade as well, just to try it out as I've never shot a fixed blade out of a crossbow.

I would have liked to see this broadhead with straight blades and have them not open quite as far and maintain a maximum of 40 degree angle of attack. Just my two cents...
