Even Blake Griffin looks for new ways to train and improve his game on the court. As part of a new three-part web series called The Crossover with Blake Griffin,here is the first episode featuring handball champion Timbo Gonzalez. The 1-on-1 regimen focuses on Griffin trying new drills to enhance his hand-eye coordination and agility, skills that are needed on the basketball court. The next two cross-training chapters featuring the Clippers’ forward will be released weekly at www.redbull.com/thecrossover, all focusing on different aspects of skill development to prepare him for the upcoming season.

+RJ. It's the court at West 4th in NYC. Famous streetball court. It's not that unusual to see NBA players there in the off-season. Plus, it's NYC, nobody cares that much. Everyone has somewhere else to be!
You know what helps in handball? Having hands that can palm a basketball.

knowing how to cut it when you hit the ball so when it contacts the wall, it goes in the opposite direction, thats what helps, having big hands means nothing if you don't know how to use them properly in handball

Bro growing up and playing Handball in Cali most likely you’re probably in a hood court. You’re gonna get hit up by he homies who run the park and are gonna test you in a game of handball so be ready. Handball is hella fun and tiring, respect and durance is what it’s about.
Classic four wall handball does use a harder ball which moves faster. This is cooler though, and the culture is cool, and the man to man contact is probably greater even if the ball is slower and softer. One wall vs four wall changes a lot of the angles, but all the fastest volleys in four wall are back and forth of front wall anyways so you know big ball/one wall is lit. Both are cool sports. No small ball street ball unfortunately, and precious little in the gyms even.
I think it's just awesome that he recognizes Hard work in another sport, he is a humble professional kid who respects work, and the way he treated Timbo was awesome, I think he would've done the same whether the cameras were there or not, he was really professional , I respect humble people, rich or not. great video.

One-wall handball is mostly a NYC game. I think it became popular there because all the public parks had one or more concrete walls. It didn't cost much to build them, they didn't require any maintenance, and lots of people could use them at the same time. Perfect use of public money! I miss playing it, wish I could find a concrete wall where I live now! BTW, in NYC, when you say "handball", this is the game you're talking about. The game that's played in a four-walled court indoors is called "blackball".

+Art Vandelay . Dude, handball is major NYC and Irish sport great for walls in the City. There is a one wall, 4 wall and 3 wall versions and a selection of 4 ball hardness (black, red, blue and pink). It is easy to play but difficult to master. Terrific sport.

Ah, this takes me back. How I spent my summers growing up in NYC. I haven't played in decades since I haven't lived in NYC and I haven't found a court in other states. But I'm pushing to get an outdoor handball court in Houston suburbs

facts true.. as a handball player myself we know the struggles of first learning the game, power shots, "seeing" the ball, angle shots, spin shots, rollers, stamina, timing, and ball placement.. but he managed above average when it came to seeing the ball and stamina.. he juss gotta work on ball placement

This form of handball is common in Ireland, why are people hating?
Because it's not handball, it's wall-ball or something, just like "american football" is not football, they don't play with their feet and it's not a ball, a ball is round, theirs is more like an egg. Handball is played on a court with two teams and there is a goal, there is no goal and there are no teams in american wall-ball.

Wonderful video!. The Sport of handball goes way back. Invented in Ireland in the early 1700's. Abe Lincoln played it. Team handball was invented around 1890.

I have watched the video with Spanish subtitles and there is an error, they are translating handball as "balonmano", but that's the sport of Team Handball. The proper translation in this case is "pelota mano". As a side note, who would want Blake Griffin cross-train playing Team Handball? Could be cool to watch an NBA pro in it.
The Spanish name for this kind of handball is Rebote, which is loosely translated as ricochet.

European handball is very diffrent tho. I train it and it's like a very diffrent sport. In european handball ia a lot more contact.
+Lukas Gnidovec There is no such thing as European handball. Handball is handball. What you see in the video is another version which the "Americans" named handball. Though both sports use hands and ball, for me this is more related to squash > hands = hand squash. I'm from Europe myself btw.

I understand BG struggle with the endurance factor. I played tennis all my life and every time I play team sports like football or basketball I get exhausted much quicker than playing tennis. Handball has similar coordination like tennis so you need to have quick feet, hands and eyes to control the ball and to be able to move around. Basketball requires similar but also different types of movements so no wonder BG got tired.
It IS amazing how each sport requires great endurance; yet it must be in a different way being that Blake got winded even though he is a professional athlete.
