helping me practice sounding like Russian for my next D&D session thanks!
👍
Lol same : D
Hello, there fellow traveller. It's seems we have same destination.
Me too, I've watched a few "speak English with Russian accent" videos, this is the best so far. I struggle most with the rolling Rs!
so I'm not the only one lol
The funny thing with Russian accents is that lowering the voice while speaking English isn't for the purpose of humor, when you speak Russian your voice is automatically lower. This can count to a lot of other Slav languages too, that is why a Slavic speaker grown up in a western country can have such a high sounding voice when speaking English (or other western languages). For example: I live in the Netherlands, and I saw this really beautiful blonde girl, from which I assumed she was Dutch, she was speaking to someone on her phone in Dutch. Her voice was so high pitched like you would expect a Dutch girl to sound, cute and loudly. Later on I overheard someone talking fluently and perfectly Russian, it was really beautiful to hear someone pronouncing the language so perfectly, it sounded so smooth and soothing. The person speaking it sounded like a grown-up (let's say somewhere around 25 year old) woman, but she had a significantly deeper pitch than most Dutch woman and it just was so satisfying and relaxing to hear that woman speak Russian, so I looked over to see who the professional speaker would be, only to find out that it was the same blonde girl which I assumed was Dutch, talking with her Russian family member over the phone. I was actually shocked to find out she was Russian XD
What an interesting story! And that is absolutely true! When we speak Russian, we usually lower our voice. It just happens. And it often frightens people from other countries 😄
Because your comment is long and at the top of the tread, I'm here reading your comment out loud to myself to practice the accent. Warning: before long, you will be complicit in making me a Communist spy.
@@ikesteroma 🤣🤣🤣
And why the hell were you shocked? Hmm, Hollywood stereotypes.
I remember I heard a girl speaking english in a very high voice and then I heard her speak russian…..
This is the best Russian lesson I’ve had yet. I practice my vowel sounds, and now I am entertaining friends all the time with my Russian accent.
Thank you so much! It means a lot to me to know that you practice and have fun on the way. Way to go! ❤❤❤
I am Russian, moved to Latin America when I was 3 and completely lost the accent. Need it back for intimidation purposes, thank you so much!
Haha! Good luck relearning the accent!
Intimidation purposes😆
I’m Russian. I was born in Moscow. But I was adopted when I was 16 months and I really want to learn the language and be able to speak in a Russian accent so thank you for this vid 🤍
Hello, Alexandra! 🔆 It’s so nice to read your comment! It’s great that you want to learn Russian. Maybe you could tell me about the most difficult things in learning Russian because I am planning to record another video. Your feedback would be very helpful. Have a nice day! ❤️
@@RussianwithaRussian of course! 😊 I studied Russian when I was in college but couldn’t continue because of my health. So as someone who is getting back into it, it feels overwhelming. I think learning a language, especially one where you’re learning a new alphabet too, can be kind of daunting at first. If there’s any advice you have for beginners and how best to stick to a schedule for learning it that would be super helpful. :) I think a lot of it also comes down to is what resources are best to use for studying it? Books, shows or movies in Russian that you would recommend, etc. And how is the best way to learn grammar. Thanks!
This a base.
I love that you explain WHY there are these accent differences, not just what they are!
Thank you! I'm glad it helps.❤
I love the Russian accent, and language.

Thank you so very much! I’m glad you liked the video! ☺️
i tried doing a russian accent on my own before learning this and my dad said it was more french than russian and probably a mix of other accents
That's an interesting comparison.🤔 There are two types of "R" in French. The most popular ("uvular") one is formed in the area of the root of your tongue, while its tip is pressed against your lower teeth. And the second one may sound similar to the Russian one because the tip of the tongue vibrates a little. But still, this sound is smoother and not so "dramatic" as in Russian.😂 I wish you good luck in mastering your Russian accent! 🤗🙌❤️
If you still have questions, you can watch this video kzhead.info/sun/Y8mgo6ywrnOhhJ8/bejne.html (from 3:35)🤗 Have a good day!
@@RussianwithaRussian thanks so much!
About 20yrs ago my dad (native Spanish speaker) went to Europe & Russia. For some reason while in Europe, people (locals) kept mistaking his accent as Russian... then would apologize profusely when he'd say he was American, lol. Not real sure why; any Spanish accent is very faint.

I'm Russian and I approve! Thanks for supporting us!!
Thank you!!!🙏🙌🔆
The funny way to say this in (American) English is . . . "I'm Russian, and I approve this message." (All the annoying politicians say it this way at the end of each of their political commercials.).
You are hilarious and far more intelligent than most people might think. You could do stand up.
Aw, thank you so very much! Well, I already do theatre. So, maybe it’s time to add some stand up, too😁
I love the russian accent and the language aswell but I’m having trouble learning it
You just have to start, be patient and try not to quit. It’s only hard when you begin🤗 Good luck!☺️
haha same
In the past, when I've asked Russians how to translate an English phrase into Russian, they will give around 23,000 different ways to say it. (Very frustrating for someone trying to learn the language from a beginning level.)
Отлично……I see I am not the first person here to practice sounding “Russian” for D&D…my problem is I actually studied the Russian Language at university for a few years so it is very hard for me to “fake” a Russian accent because I just slip into speaking bad Russian. Thank you for the lessons..I never thought about the things you are teaching so I appreciate the help!! Спасибо❤️
Thank you so much for your feedback! It’s really great to see here so many people from D&D. And I am glad I could be of help. ❤️🇷🇺🙏

i would love her to make a similar video where she stayed in the accent the whole timee! great vido
Hahaha. I should try it😂😂😂
Tysm I've always wanted to talk in a Russian accent
I’d also like to add 2 things 1. Russian has a feature called “devoicing” If /b/ /d/ /ɡ/ /v/ /z/ /ʒ/ or /d͡ʒ/ are in the middle of a word, and it doesnt start with any of those letters, make it unvoiced 2: The “l” sounds The russian language almost never uses /l/, its more of a harsher l, /ɫ/

Wow! these tips were very helpful, do you have any extra tips for getting all of the tips down?
Speaking from my experience (i'm an actress and have had to learn a buttload of accents for different auditions, certain roles, etc) the best thing to do is focus on like one person who has the exact accent that you want to be able to imitate. Watch like a thousand of their KZhead videos/ interviews (like if you choose a celebrity) and just copy everything they say, the exact way they say it. Then practice all day speaking those same phrases. For maybe 10 mins, or up to weeks. Depending on what you want to do. But slowly try to incorporate other words/ phrases/ etc, with your newly learned accent. Try to perfect a handful of sentences and then you'll get some muscle memory on the accent and be able to freestyle soon enough. That's what I do lmao. Hope it helps !!
@@nikkizzlefoshizzle Wow! That’s an absolutely awesome piece of advice! Thank you, Nikita! And good luck with acting!🙏🌹

Thank you so much! What do you mean by the eliminating articles? The ones that are supposed to be used in some phrases but are not used? In Russian there are no articles. In English you can use one/no/them/those/a little/few etc. instead of articles. ❤️
