Thank you!
This video cuts through any confusing information and perfectly illustrates what beginners need to know for a minimum of basic knowledge. Nice job.
I do a little wood-cutting and a little video editing. Your falling techniques are so advanced I've never seen or heard of most of them. And your editing is superb! You don't waste our time, you get straight to the point showing us cut-lines. The multiple camera close-ups so well-edited makes me happy to subscribe just to see two subjects I enjoy learning more about.
Thank you very much John! And welcome to my channel!
Good job . Perfect 👍👍😊😉
Really cool seeing the fiber pulls on the different cuts
In Finland do you always cut the bottom out of the wing cuts or is this just so that we can see the hinge wood breaking off better
Good question,, but of course no answers. Why do people put up videos and not monitor for the best questions, .
Awesome hinge footage! Lots to learn from there.
Thanks for a nice video again! Is there a reson for not showing the benefits of practising the safe corner felling cut?
The lenght of the video
What's that?
Merci Michel
Nice video. But when should the different cuts be used? I believe different conditions request one of those?
That's what I was wondering.... seems to be no ryme nor reason for the different cuts
EXCELLENT QUESTION! I didn't think of that, this video was just to show them quickly to you Back to the drawing board...
There is one face cut he did not show. That is known as the birds mouth. It is about 100° angle and it allows the hinge to retain control of the tree even after it hits the ground. It is much more ideal cut when dropping a tree down a hill.
@@johnrobertson7583 I prefer using a down facing birds mouth most of the time. Better control.
Love this
Excellent!
I'm curious - will each of these methods repeat dependably virtually every time? It'a a great video, by the way...

Now if I only knew when to employ each technique. There must be a reason you would do it one way over another.

Very nice compilation. Thanks.. I have seen many felling videos , but no one has compared so many options before. The choice i noticed the biggest problem with was the very shallow facecut, which ifnsone on the wrong type of tree could cause a barberchair.
You may like to check out a video by Guilty of Treeson channel, with a rather shameless self-promoting title ;-) "WORLD'S BEST TREE FELLING TUTORIAL! Way more information than you ever wanted on how to fell a tree!" - where they show you eight different cuts and how a tree falls down on them. Here, in case you're interested: kzhead.info/sun/obCCdb2uf3-Ja40/bejne.html And then there's "Buckin' Billy Ray Smith" channel, by a guy who knows how to fell a tree before he sees it ;-) (just kidding, but he's knowledge and experience is VERY impressive), and then there's this channel by August Hunicke - and gazillion of others. Hey, just sharing my knowledge about them it's up to you if you want to visit them. Cheers.
exactly what I was going to say.
It wasn’t the shallow face that almost caused it, it was the thick hinge. A thick hinge especially on a leaner or applying pressure to the tree will always do that. That’s part of the advantage of a shallow face, it keeps the tree upright a little longer than a deeper face and let’s you cut a proper backcut without worry. He just left it a little long as was probably pushing it over with some force. A shallow face is generally used on leaners also because it gives you more room to plunge cut your hinge on smaller trees while still leaving plenty of holding wood on the backside
Truth. You don’t want to cut a deep face cut on a leaner because that can make the back cut angry and when you start the back cut it can pop your tart
@@u.sonomabeach6528 u sonomabeach, now I'm hungry for poptarts.
Most people I have seen felling trees tend to get away from a tree that's starting to fall. This guy must be very good, watching a near barber chair up close...😮
yes
@@FINNISHLUMBERJACK Haha, sir, I salute you!😉
He is very talented 💪👍 one of the best
If you watch any of his other videos you see he cut the tree off and only leaves 6 foot stump to use in his demonstration’s.
@erickdvdk its due to the type of tree…i think they are fir…absolutely the wrong thing to try with a US red or white oak…
👍
What tool are you using to help the tree go over?
It is a tree-jack "Stalpen"
Dang bro is working in soft wood with straight trees. Dream situation, yet still jacking? You rather carry that than a wedge and axe? Awesome demonstrations. God speed and be safe.
I'm also from Finland and we use jacks often. Probably has to do with the size of the trees, quite small so the wedge bottoms out before enough lift is generated to fell the tree over. Or that is my theory at least.
Mantap 👍

No example of a "Humboldt"

Które były prawidłowe?

All these examples does not show at all what would happen in many different cases: different wood, rotten parts, leaning degree, side roots,... So, the choice of proper way of felling is based on particular case, but at the same time on estimation that will provide statistically the safest procedure.
I'm ignorant on the topic and your demonstration is fascinating but there's something I really don't understand and it's this: surely how the tree falls is going to be almost entirely dependent on the how the weight of the branches is distributed? Take an extreme example where all the weight is on one side with nothing on the other, it will always fall towards the weight however you cut it. I don't see how you can compare how a tree will fall without considering the canopy first although I can see it might kick up differently from one cut to another or fall more slowly.
Yes! First you evaluate the tree, then you plan the cut, use the equipment needed and then cut the tree.
What is the purpose of the side cuts on the tree?
20" diameter tree and an 18 bar
Why do you trim the sides of your notch every time? Does it have to do with the length of your bar?
Shows the cut better for demonstration. Wouldn’t do it on the worksite

are these trees pine ? will this technique work on hardwoods like iron bark ? appreciate your skill !!
These are mainly spruce. Hard wood behaves differently, but most of the techniques will work

What's conspicuously missing is a brief explanation of when a given type of cut is warranted and in what manner the trees consequently fall. Only the rate of fall seems to vary. I've operated a tree service for ten years and I find this video to be rather useless, as it is. Kill the music and add a narration and then you'll have something.
you are cheating using a tool to push the trees over. This deprives the tree of the ability to fall pursuant to the cut method alone.
Yup pretty descriptive,
Your pushing the tree over with that pole! Let's see you not use that and use some wedges. This is stupid your pushing them over. 😂
