"The first thing you'll notice when you climb inside is that you can not find the start stop button". Then proceeds to show a GIANT RED START STOP BUTTON RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STEERING WHEEL.
He just had to find one quirk which wasn’t a quirk at all.
What Doug means is that you won't find it in its logical place. The steering wheel is probably the stupidest place you can find for it. Steering wheel controls are supposed to be controls that you need to reach during driving without your hands leaving the steering wheel. That's the very reason for them. When did you last need to start-stop the engine during driving? Things like that should be left where they've been, and not without reason, for many decades. The fact that it's a button and not a key any more doesn't change a thing.
Gábor correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure that Ferrari’s also have their start stop on their steering wheels.
@@gabor7928 I quoted him exactly as he said, he said you can't find the start stop button as you get inside the car, but the button is labeled and very noticeable, right at the middle of the steering wheel, you need to be blind to not find it. Now, if that's not the usual place to put it, that's another story.
The last time he was in a Toyota and its central control unit went bonker? - Wait, when it happens, you have to switch On/off the car twice...

I really like the way the _infotainment_ screen is integrated into the dash. Most consoles and pop-up screens make the electronics look like an afterthought, rather than part of the vehicle.
Yup alfa looked at the market and knew exactly how to return to America and Canada. They did the return very well. I see stelvios all over my city where i live in Canada
I could not agree more! That is my least favorite part about Mercedes Benz and sometimes Audi is they just kind of mount the screen on there.
I agree I drive a BMW 1-Series F20 LCI and I hate the screen being basically a tablet stuck on top of the dashboard whilst on the 3-Series E90 gen was perfectly integrated in the dash

Doug that is not a triangle grill, it's a V grill, the V stands for Veloce, meaning FAST. The four leaf clover was put on the car by a racing driver to give himself good luck, in the 1920s the clover was on a white square, unfortunately he died racing, Alfa changed it to half a square with the green four leaf clover as dedication to the racing driver. Sorry I can't remember the drivers name.
Ugo Sivocci was the name of the driver who wanted to put that 4leaf clover on the car in the Targa Florio race,to give himself luck. After his death,in another race (in which he hadn't put the clover so...coincidence?),his number, the 17,was banned from every race car for superstition reasons...but they decided to keep the clover. Now it is a triangle because half of it is missing, cause the driver itself is missing.
No so lucky then is it?
@@audiquattro2003 you're right...he did NOT put the 4 leaf clover on the car the race he died. For some reason he thought it better to put on a little logo of a guy being ejected from a race car and his head coming off??? Not a great look really...they called the logo a quadrocalavasa meaning squash in four pieces.... just a bit of trivia.
Doug, when you're in dynamic or RACE the shock absorber button illuminates, which is the button to engage "bumpy road mode" same as Ferrari you can drive it in dynamic and still have a comfortable ride. I am surprised you missed that.
I second this one. It's kind of a key feature also present in the Giulia.
I second this, I hope Doug sees it.

Doug, the type of guy who says the handling of this car is amazing yet gives it a 6/10 score.
I agree that this seems a bit strange, however an explanation to this could be that while the performance modes, which are mentioned to be transforming the driving characteristics of the vehicle in a complete and positive manner, are taken into consideration, the main focus may lie on the natural mode as they would assume it to be in use most of the time.
@O 99 obviously you've never tried it
@O 99 Yeah i know the meaning of handling and i also know that it is strange to say that a suv have a good handling. But I drive a Stelvio and i can tell you that when you put in dynamic is not like a gokart but is very close to it. I think the stelvio can do that thanks also to the perfect balancing of the weight 50/50 a very rare quality for a car thesedays.
And I don't have the quadrifoglio one but a more normal Stelvio and I think the quadrifoglio is even better
@O 99 yep. But sadly a lot of italians prefer to spend 30k on a 1.0 3 cylinder Volswaghen Golf

The engine itself is quite interesting and worthy of more discussion! It’s a 90-degree V6, which is not common, because it’s essentially a Ferrari V8 cut down to size. It’s perhaps one of the most interesting aspects of this car!
Not to mention that Ferrari F154 engine is a three consecutive years an engine of the year. This V6 is as you said F154 minus 2 cylinders which in a way makes it a very, very special motor especially the fact that you can buy it without being very rich (.... just rich will be enough).

the oval key in the center console is just the place to put your keyless remote when the battery dies so che car can sense the key even without battery so you can start it
You are right and here is the really strange part as in Portofino video he showed exactly this feature. Keeping in mind how close Ferrari and Alfa are it is not that hard to make a connection.
About the turn signal issue, you just hit it lightly. I have a Stelvio and I was confused for awhile as well.
Same with it’s predecessor, 159. There’s a small resistance in the half way. If you don’t exceed it, it blinks only three times. Doug needs to make fake quirks because it’s too normal.
actually goes of automatically after lane change or turn blinks 5 or six times as courtesy/safety feature
As for the bumpy ride you've experienced - in the centre of the DNA selector there's a round button with a shock absorber icon on it. Had you pressed it..... user's manual, page 124: "The driver can choose, even while driving, (only in"Dynamic”mode), between two types of suspension calibration: a more sporty or a more comfortable one. By pushing the button, the system prepares to work with a shock absorber calibration which favours driving comfort" :).
Exactly! It's bleeding obvious too. But will Doug address this serious error in his review, with a video edit, or a note in the video info? Of course not; he's but a goofball, not an reviewer, so "buyer" beware!
Whoa that’s real cool
It's weird because Doug knew about this in the Giulia QV review.
He forgot.
He's too excited of stelvio qv..like dating a beautiful italian model..hahaha
In the center console the Alfa Romeo logo surrounded by the oval is used when the key fob battery dies. In the event the fob's battery dies, place the key on the oval. There's a transponder that communicates with the car to allow you to start the car.

505 hp from a 2.9 liter. Thats crazy numbers twin turbo or not. That tuning must be off the hook. And that exhaust note is comparable to any super sport v8 currently available.
LUIS RODRIGUEZ Tuning companies have already achieved 610hp with just a tune and an exhaust. Ferrari engine you know
That's why no one who knows anything about cars is buying these. I blew up the giulia version after just a half hour of driving in the LA hills. If they can ease off of that engine and bring it down to ~450 hp they would be the best cars on the market

Yeah, he gave it a 6 for coolness too 🤔 sketchy scoring to say the least.
3.6 in an suv is ridiculous xD
Yes and 8/10 is very high so it makes sense no? He gives out 10 in acceleration to cars like the Chiron and the Koenigsegg Agera RS who does 0-100 in almost half the time as this.
Danial LameH I agree, should be a 9 out of 10, it’s a freaking SUV, so for an SUV that’s highly impressive!

I have a 10 year old Alfa brera and I can say there's been no major reliability issues, just routine maintenance costs. Puts a smile on my face every time
Proud owner of a Giulietta here, no issues as well (besides a dent I caused T_T )
Every car needs a bit of love, true alfa owners know this :)
Still driving my 2006 Alfa Romeo 147! Never had an issue, never left me stranded and never failed to start! And yes - the smile is still there when I drive it :)
Is it a 2.2 petrol or a 2.4 diesel? Cause I'm interested in the petrol ones
Had an Alfa Mito Quadrifoglio as my first car. The Abarth of the Alfas. Had any reliability issues, excellent fuel consumption, and one of the most amazing handlings I've tried, until I drove the Giulia!
@10:40, that is when the key battery is dead, you can start it by using the RFID transmitter for the starter.
I have a white with red interior 2019 Alfa Giulia and I absolutely love it. The A in DNA actually stands for Advanced Efficiency mode. It's basically eco/comfort mode with slower shifts. The AWD system operates differently as well to help increase performance in weather situations. The Dynamic mode also sharpens up the breaks
The big etching of the key in the center console is used to start your car if your key is dead. You can manually open the handles with the key lock and place the dead fob in the console and it communicates with the car to start it up
These Alfa vehicles are the best looking things I've seen since the early 70s, I've been curious about the build quality and reliability though. Any information in those areas??
I come back every once in a while to remind me why this is my dream car. Doug's reaction during the drive truly fills me with envy.
There is a small 'Shock Absorber' button on the DNA knob you can press in Dynamic or even Race mode to make ride comfortable like in Normal mode - but as default these modes make the car stiffer so you need to press it after.

@@ethanol2733 Now 17 months in and no issues! 1 oil change at 10k. My only complaint is wishing on the better brakes. The calipers look nice, but to stop that heavy SUV you need to get into the pedal sometimes. The Stelvio Quadrifoglio brakes are done proper thoufh.
Clarification on that four leaf clover badge. The driver Ugo Sivocci, who was also a dear friend of Enzo Ferrari, started the whole quadrifoglio symbol for Alfa Romeo to banish bad luck as well as them always finishing second place. They won so many races afterwards. Originally it used to be in a square. When Sivocci died, Alfa Romeo took one side off the square and made it a triangle in memory of him.
G K I heard that story a long time ago on another video and I kind of figured that it should be mentioned. Especially after Doug very briefly explained a tiny history of the badge. One thing to know, Sivocci died at Monza in a car that didn’t have the Quadrifoglio badge on it.
Gregg Cesaroni I like how Doug had to tell people it’s an Italian brand 😂
wow
well it wasn't quite like that... actually, it used to be a square, but in one of the mille miglias , a long time ago, an alfa romeo driver had a horrible crash. He somehow survived with minor bruises, despite the fact that the car was left like a ball of paper, all folded and useless. The cloverleaf sticker was also damaged, and the triangle was used ever since then, in a way to signal "good luck"...
and yes, Sivocci died because he betrayed the quadrifoglio, which used to give him good luck in his races.
No fake exhausts like some german "premiumcars"...thank you Alfa.
I didn't ever saw a fake exhaust on a German car that has more than 400hp... i can agree with you on the less powerful ones, but not on the +400hp cars....

This car does in fact borrow it’s paddles and engine from Ferrari. Ferrari is Alfa’s sister brand, which is why I think Alfa is so cool. Also note, Alfa borrows nothing from Chrysler, there is not a single FCA parts bin piece in Alfas. That is something that cannot be said about sister brand Maserati which has been ruined by FCA parts bin stuff.
I have a hard time believing there is no shared part in the Alfa.
Isn’t the infotainment the Uconnect system?
It's not the Alfa Romeo group it's the Fiat group. Fiat is the big corporation that adopted Alfa,Ferrari,Lancia,Iveco trucks,Vespa,Piaggio,Gilera almost all Italian motor brands are under the Fiat group.
Chewbacca Buddy no it’s a better non fca infotainment
Chewbacca Buddy nope. Alfa has its own unique infotainment. Only thing that I see is shared with any other FCA car is the plastic cover over the microphone on the roof. Either than that, 0 FCA parts bin stuff.
Doug, it has a bumpy mode and all you have to is click the middle of the DNA selector. It softens up the suspension.
Thought I'd look up the nice Suv I was following the other day... now I'm even more impressed, Thanks Doug.
Turn signals turn off with a soft push in the other direction before it clicks. It's weird at first but not an issue after driving it a while. Press the center suspension button on the DNA selector while in dynamic mode to return the suspension to normal mode while keeping all of the engine management and transmission controls in dynamic. Surprised you noted the paddle shifters are Ferrari like, without noting that Alfa is a sister company to Ferrari and most of the designers who built it came from Ferrari, and that the V6 is straight out of the California with 2 cylinders lobbed off. Lastly the 1st year reliability is rumored to be making many new dealers go out to business, due to lack of warranty / repair work. They have so far been very reliable vehicles.
Alfa Romeos fall apart after the warranty ends. I had two from 1991 and they paid for my Italian mechanics kid’s private school.
Chris B well now those kids can help you with your loan. #thecircleoflife
Pietro Matteo check out consumer reports reliability and resale value predictions. Alfa Romeo is still a beautiful piece of crap, and I still love them. Just wish they would hire as many good engineers as they do carrozzerias.
Pietro Matteo the Consumer Report estimation was based on 2017 models. You can also google reliability before that with European models. Unfortunately nothing has changed. Everything under the Fiat umbrella is crap reliability.
Pietro Matteo I think the cash infusion from Fiat has actually made modern Maserati’s and Alfa Romeo’s more reliable. Unfortunately a more reliable Italian car is relative. They should hire more, and better engineers. Coach design is what they excel at, but poor reliability still plagues them. It’s 2018, these issues should have long been worked out.
They say the turn signal on this very Alfaromeo Silvio Quadrifoglio is still on til this day... No seriously.. how do you turn them off?

Because Maserati shares designs and components from Ford, while Giulia/Stelvio are inspired and designed by Ferrari/FCA collab. That V6 is a Ferrari V8 with 2 cylinders lopped off
I wish Doug DeMurro was aware of the fact that in Dynamic and Race modes you can revert to soft damper settings by the press of a button, while keeping the sharp engine/gearbox/steering settings. This would eliminate the rough ride while still keeping the sporty character of the car.
Ah yes, soft damping while in performance modes intended as such and not for posturing, where sharp handling and not boaty floatiness is required...

My wife and I went to test drive a 2018 Stelvio (non-Quadrifoglio) and were amazed at how amazing it was. It looks amazing, it is comfortable and quiet and the things that a lot of reviewers didn't like, we really loved. The small, no-touch infotainment made the cabin so much cleaner and we feel safer because the driver isn't messing trying to find the menu for turning on windshield wipers. The RWD made the Stelvio feel like a dancer flitting about the road. I'm sure the handling is more like what Doug describes at 15:26 but it feels like a really, really good hatchback. IT WAS A STEAL! Seen that baby just like the one in the video - same color n everything- n OMG it is GORGEOUS! It’s just a beautiful piece of work. Where I live there r several Alfa Romeos running around. ❤️❤️
I live in Italy and some of my friends own a Stelvio, not the Quadrifoglio version, just boring diesels, and they all had german brands SUV. They're really happy with their car and, even if they are just diesel, they very sporty and the handing is awesome. Moreover, here's the most sold SUV in the market since it came out last year and most people loves it.
Fede2o you like pizza bro?
you like Kimchi bro?
Fede2o The only markets Italian cars sell are Italy and Italy.
Fede2o alfa Romeo stellvio quadrifollio 😂😂 troppo bello sentire la pronuncia inglese dei nomi italiani 😂
@@user-xt8pw4jn6e I love pizza and yes, italian cars make big numbers only in Italy because they have a very bad reputation in other countries. People only love German cars here in Europe, despite all the scandals and the Dieselgate.

That's was the worst one I have ever heard. Maybe you should pay someone to come up with these for you
OGXDream i thought it was clever, let’s see you make one
@@brandonmoretti5774 all these Doug jokes are beyond corny now
OGXDream excuse! Make a Doug joke
>critiques someone's joke >gets told to do better >"nah, they're all corny" You're a special kinda stupid, OG
Great video Doug, however I think that you should do a review on the Porsche Macan. I have always liked that car. Keep up the great work.
Buying one. Thanks Doug.
soooo.....how do you turn off that turn signal?
Take out the battery
Somebody please answer, Im also curious af.
Push some button in the trunk...
I assume you kinda half-tap the stalk. Ford did these signal stalks in their trucks for a couple years and it was infuriating to use. You'd tap for a 3-flash lane change signal, push all the way down for a full signal and if it doesn't auto-cancel, you'd have to do it again. Shit is dumb.

Doug was a millionaire way before he did his first video.

I spent a day at the Las Vegas motor Speedway recently driving supercars. Before getting to drive, my girlfriend and I were taken for a lap with a pro driver in a Stelvio quadrifollio to show us the track. The speed this thing did, and the way it took corners, was utterly insane. It felt like it should not be able to take corners at the speed it did. I was amazed we didn't roll over. This is a truly phenomenal car.
Hey Doug big fan! I have a Stelvio Ti and I hate the turn signal as well, however, if you do a soft press on the stock (not a full click to change signal) it will cancel the signal. Idk why they couldn’t have done the stock the same way it is in my SRX. Keep up the great videos! And on a side note my we also have a 72 Pontiac LeMans if you are looking for another vintage car to review.
I am surprised Doug didn't lose a word about the fact that the V6 origins from Ferrari's V8 Turbo.

I think it's crazy how this has the same score as the Giulia despite being an SUV. Crazy how a SUV is now as dynamic as a performance sedan
True, but the giulia looks sleeker because its lower to the ground and lighter. Pretty sure it's lighter
Ferrari helping with the engine design helped a lot.
And he is quicker. O-62mph Stelvio 3.8 Giulia 3.9
because it's all wheel drive it beats the giulia 0-60
Exactly! Stelvio is quicker in the first part but in the end Giulia wins. Because All wheel drive is better in the 0-62 but after that the RWD recovers the gap
Your explanation is awesome ... you are one of the best car reviewer in KZhead.
I've watched other stelvio reviews but this is truly in depth...
and THIS is the Stelviooo Quadrifogliooo
NINOOOO
One of the best SUV's imo.
the only thing i would worry about is reliability, alfa makes good cars but only when they work.
GLC 63 is a better car in every single way
Fuck that. I’ll take an SRT Durango

@@SheepRacing uhhhhhhhh nope, it handles waaay better, its faster, its sportier and so on. Every car is great by its own
His reviews are the best
Hey Doug, great video! Just a couple observations: -The key graph inside the center console is the place where you can can place a discharged key fob and still start the engine. -In the Alfa DNA selector, the "a mode" stands for "Advanced Efficiency" and it does not mean "All weather". I know, it is confusing. I Love my Alfa Giulia. It would be great if you make a video. @DougDeMuro @AlfaRomeoUSA
So... how do you turn off the indicators?
Legends say the Stelvio was born around a flashing indicator
Once you turn it on there's no going back, choose wisely.
Flagdrop Light press down or up. Exactly the same as BMW. And once you learn it (about 5 seconds for most people) it's easily the best system.
I guessed that you need to pull it toward the steering wheel... but I may never gonna find out .
They turn off after a few seconds automatically, or when you turn.
This is the X3, GLC63s, SQ5 and Porsche Macan. Not the large SUV variants
It is bigger, the video doesn't make justice.
op is right. Its in the same class as the x3
Hi Doug, A tell-tale, sometimes called an idiot light or "warning light", is an indicator of malfunction of a system, indicated by a binary (on/off) illuminated light, symbol or text legend. - Found this on the internet. Thanks for your review, I really enjoy them. I use to (as a bit of a hobby) test drive cars during my lunch time breaks. It is huge fun. Enjoy it
Great SUV and great video! It would be nice to see a video with the new Maserati Levante Trofeo, with its V8 and 590 hp.
I hope that clover brings the owner good luck after the warranty runs out.

I'm just so beyond lucky to drive an Alfa Guilia as a 24 year old. What a wonderful gift from my parents. The more I hear about alfa romeos, the more I fall in love with it everyday.
He also gives it a 6 for handling. He raved about the handling, especially considering it is an SUV. He seemed amazed about the handling.
It’s has excellent handling for an SUV. But it wouldn’t handle anything close to a sports car which is why it’s only 6
