Is the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio the Ferrari of SUVs? | TEST DRIVE
This is the new Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio SUV, and everything you want to know about it! From a full in-depth walkaround to pushing on in the countryside to get a full feel for what it's like to drive. As the range topping version of Alfa's Stelvio SUV, the Quadrifoglio has 510hp from the 2.9l twin turbocharged V6 and offers incredible performance for the price.
Alfa Romeo came back to the spotlight with the launch of the Giulia and Giulia Quadrifoglio, their saloon car that was heavily developed by ex-Ferrari engineers. The Stelvio builds on that base, using the same chassis setup and engine but of course now with a 4 wheel drive installation and increased practicality. It is by far the lightest car in its class meaning it offers hugely dynamic capabilities albeit at the expense of practicality and in some cases a premium refinement you might expect. Alfa Romeo are part of the FCA group, as were Ferrari until recently however the companies have largely the same shareholders which begs the questions whether this is the SUV Ferrari would like to build or what one will be like if they do eventually do so?
In any case, join me at the Nurburgring to take a look around the car in detail and run over some of the facts and figures before we hop in to go for a drive and discover all the different driving modes. Upon return it's time for a much more detailed interior overview and run through some of the systems and displays.

I was a bit disappointed with the engine characteristics. It did not feel like a V6, rather like a 4-pot with a lot of boost. Sound was also very artificial. Perhaps it was partly due to that it's so freely revving for a turbo V6 - which makes it feel like a smaller engine, but general impression was very 'cheap' compared to a Porsche Macan Turbo for example.

Does a Giulia QV have the Q4 system? If not, then the Stelvio offers something more.
STELVIO is the coolest SUV ever
g00dfeeling 9 colors to chose from, only one choice for stereo , no all leather options, General lack of option period . A cheap car for a high price for what you get. After the very few options you do get you get the price up at 92,000 American . Just not worth the money for such a generic vehicle .
Tt55 K Generic vehicles are SUVs from Porsche, Mercedes or Audi. Someone must be completely tasteless to avoid Stelvio.

Hi Tim. Just gotta say, I have just watched your lap with Sam from STG. You were whipping along at a good pace as confirmed by Sam’s reactions yet all the while you were happily chatting away whilst maintains that pace. You made the comment people will say ‘Shmee can’t drive’. I disagree my friend, you have skills to carry that speed, let along talk all the way through it. Respect.
Zoltán Juhász yes I know he can. That’s what my comment was saying, but he mentioned people may say he can’t in the video hence my comment. The fact he took that lap with ease and didn’t pause in conversation proves he was still well within his limits.
saw it today at the local dealership and what I can say is.. in real life it looks even more stunning then on screen! just wow! strangely I don't even find that offset numberplate ugly, compared to the normal Stelvio. The car is so beautiful you don't even really notice! what a stunner! would pick this 100% over any other SUV! even the Macan!
To all non alfisti complaining about less features, grainy backing camera, less screens, lack of driving aids, quality of interior and resale value...well let me explain what you do buy an Alfa for... You buy an Alfa for it's driving and handling as there is no other brand giving you so precise steering (patented front suspension), you do buy an Alfa because of it's racing and Formula1 heritage as you can see and feel it in many details and tech specs they are full of (frame and weight distribution is perfectly pitched). You buy an Alfa cause you want to "feel" you are driving and are in control, other brands dont come near as all electronics and feats kill this feeling and usually add weight. You buy an Alfa cause they got style and character no other gives you. You dont buy an Alfa for its resale value (the small i market share leaves a very little customer base) You dont buy an Alfa because of its comfort as clearly you are better off with a Merc or a BMW. You dont buy it cause of its reliability as they are performance cars and things go much faster than in regular cars inevitably it has higher maintenance costs. (An Alfa never left me stranded though 3 Vag i owned did suffer engine failure) You dont buy an Alfa cause they are practical... Style and Performance come at a cost get a Volkswagen with sober boring space solutions. YOU BUY AN ALFA IF YOU LIKE TO DRIVE no other brands transmits the feeling better as less stash means less weight and thats where all others lack

It's really astonishing that Alfa managed something beautiful and aggressive out of that very weird but signature triangular grill . I am still amazed.

Well, you can always start with ARNA. The thing is, some people do not like Alfa Romeo design, however Scudetto grill is one of the most iconic symbols in automotive history, while at the same time looks very good and distinctive. People have different opinions of course, so there will always be some folks complaining about Alfa grill and the number plate being on the side. Can you imagine how narrow minded those people are...
+Bojan Bojovic Alfa Romeos aren't the only cars which do not have the number plate in the centre. After all, as you said, this grill is iconic.

Hands down one of the best looking and sounding SUV's of its time. Definitely this and the Giulia Qaudrifoglio would fit well in my garage. Bloody fast time for a car standing true to the test of time.

Hey Shmee! Very good review on this car (as usual of course). I agree with everything you said on it, I just worked with that car and Giulia QV for the Emotion Tour during 3 days in France and it was clearly stunning. Some details are a bit disappointing... but it's an Alfa, and the driving experience is so entertaining that I forgave all those things. If someone want something different in the SUVs world, I think it's the Stelvio he should go for. Keep going for your videos ! Cya ;)

Actually after watching the whole review I take it back. From a driving perspective I'm sure it's amazing, but the interior, and quality of material, and way inferior technology I would much prefer the SQ5 as a daily driver , way to many mistakes I'm seeing here, can't always use the "italian passion" excuse all the time haha.

The BMW X5 Le Mans with the V12 (6 speed manual) managed a 7:50 time and apparently hit 192 mph on the Nordschleife with Hans Stuck driving. That's a exciting SUV!

I have seen it many times before and I’m going to say it now, the stelvio is the new version of the Infiniti fx35/50/qx70. The fx35 was so unique when it came out, it still is now, and has a wonderful sound and the stelvio takes a common vehicle and makes a unique, in my opinion, styling of it and boosts the sound and performance picking up where Infiniti left off as they haven’t updated the fx35 much apart from name many changes and significant interior improvements and removing the sound.

Engine sounds a little like a 3.2v6 Busso with Ragazzon exhaust. Throaty and raspy at the same time. Nice. Nice car. Would want one. No wonder tho,- I´m an Alfa guy.

I'll just point out, regarding the "not much space in the back", that the driver's seat position was actually not in your driving position when you went to the back - Giulia and Stelvio have the unnecessary feature - that you cannot disable - that the driver's seat automatically moves far back when you switch off the engine (easy access or something). So this has probably skewed your opinion on the rear leg room, to some extent.
Would you buy this particular Stelvio when it is up for sale because it's blue?

The gulia Quadrifoglio Is rather special I must admit, Its as you say, you feel the Ferrari enginering. Its more or less aggressive In racemode like the M4 GTS Is agressive In its race mode. To have that In the jeep must be nice as well

This car is one of the few suvs that does everything right and im very impressed, but i do believe that the glc63s if the rumors are true (about amg is on a hunt for a lap time faster than this) i believe it will beat it. And yes i know this is lighter than the glc

The car is beautiful but your review is a bad joke... the interior is nearly the same on the Giulia... the materials are the same... and other cars didn‘t do that better... what to you expect man? What should the gear selector be made of? Gold? And stop talking about Ferrari all the time... it‘s not a Ferrari... it’s sporty, driver focused and awesome driving and looking... and this is what Alfa Romeo stands for...
