Baghdad, Iraq ➖ After waiting a few months for the Iraqi summer heat to subside, I finally made a trip out to Federal Iraq. Since the introduction of Visa on Arrival for tourists in March, I’d seen a few KZheadrs come here and explore the beautiful country. Their videos were amazing but they did one thing I DESPISE… they went on a choreographed tour. A tour where you’re shipped around like caged animals taken from one historical place to the next… then claiming at the end that you got an authentic experience.
Each to their own of course, but I know to experience the real Iraqi hospitality, I needed to meet the local people and go on this journey the proper Luke Damant way. I flew into Baghdad at 1am with @worldnomac and this is where the Iraq journey began!

  • just a tip luke whenever ur in iraq NEVER EVER take taxis from the airport bc they charge u 12x more than a regular taxi which is 3-5K

    • From airport to anywhere else for 3-5k?? You must be kidding... And I believe these taxi drivers don't charge. The airport staff who charge. So there is no way to scam

    • That’s not true. It was a good move from them to take the airport taxi. Safe and no scammers and the price is normal. it’s cheaper than a traditional taxi if the travelers are two or more

    • There's no other taxi option though? The airport has a 5km radius that only those airport taxis and army/police can enter. Civilians and other taxis have to wait at a checkpoint, so there really isn't any other choice

  • The guy at Baghdad airport that was helping you look for a taxi, when you asked him how much you charge a taxi to Baghdad he said 45,000 Iraqi dinner ($45 AUD). That is a complete rip-off and if you understand Arabic the other guy was saying to him becareful you are being filmed.
