12-Year-Old Whiz Teen Solves 12-Side "Rubik's Cube" In 32 Seconds: Tiny & Talented | On The Red Dot
Many of us are familiar with the 3x3 Rubik’s cube, but how much do we know about the various other cubing events? 12-year-old Beth Lee's expertise lies in Megaminx, a 12-sided puzzle boasting 50 movable components-quite a leap from the Rubik's Cube, which features only 20. Getting good at this puzzle is all about being quick and handling the tricky finger movements. Beth is one of the few children and girls competing in the 12-sided cubing event. She wants to break the world record. Can she do it?
On the other hand, 10-year-old Luis Tan has honed his skills in an event akin to sitting for an examination. Picture this scenario: you step into a room and are handed a sheet with a scrambled cube image. Your task is to solve it in the fewest number of moves. Despite starting this sport only a year ago, 10-year-old Luis Tan has already secured the 2nd position in Singapore's rankings. His dream is to clinch the title of world record champion. What must he overcome to realise this ambitious goal?

Thinking 1 step ahead in cubing is usually easy, but for a megaminx? Tracking very specific pieces on a cube this magnitude and permuting them in rapid succession with no pauses is incredibly impressive. Her turn speed is insane.
As someone who can solve a Megaminx in a bit over 2 minutes, I think that someone who is almost 2 years younger than me that can solve it in 35 seconds is just IMPRESSIVE
@@TriXtreme1995I’m also a senior cuber lol. I got a 1:04 single today! I’ve been cubing for many years and gonna nerd out on some stats. Yu Da-Hyun from Korea is a hall of famer in my book as she broke 7 WRs and 8 CRs in megaminx. I think she would’ve broken many more had there been more opportunities to compete. I started around the same time and years could go by between opportunities. She was very dominant if I recall correctly and basically in a league of her own until Juan came around to make it a proper rivalry. I think she is owed a lot of credit for inspiring women to break records and succeed at megaminx. Her 32.03 avg is still a female WR and the longest standing.
Fewest moves kid is the really insane one
@@thorsflipflop I did fewest moves once and DNFed the first solve lol. Typically an event dominated by more seasoned older cubers so I think he has a bright future ahead of him if he keeps it up.
@@tommy7467I broke my PB single with a 1:04 last night 💪 I'm going to a comp on Saturday and I was hoping to make Megaminx finals but going off of the Psych sheet, it looks like I'll need a sub-1 average
@@NoahS4226 Good luck! I’m predicting a lot of prs in 2024! I also got a 1:04 megaminx single, first sub-40 4x4 single, pyraminx single 2.35, and 5x5 and megaminx averages this year already. And I got a bunch in the last couple months too. I’m an older cuber and had a very long lull of records so they haven’t come often for me. My 2x2 single and pyraminx avg personal bests for example were set way back in 2016!
this girl is currently ranked 51st in the world for megaminx single and 58th for average
yo, impressive
Beth is honestly very accomplished. I recognise her because I knew her from my primary school. Of course I thought that my brain was messed up at first but then I looked at her primary school photos and instantly recognised her. She’s really responsible, probably why she was prefect in our Primary School. She is also extremely good at cubing and also very resilient. I think she probably got into an outstanding secondary school but I don’t really know because I don’t have her number. I think she’s going to achieve a lot more in the future too. Wishing you the best Beth!
Those young talents are very impressive, I hope they can both achieve their goal. Great report and I'm happy to see how supportive the parents are.
Bot 😂
@@Dan-Rather Thanks for the compliment.
@@curiousNicI only know you because u comment on every cubing related video lol
@@MazezCubing Pls, I don't comment on every cubing related video, only 99,99% of them.
Very well made documentary! I think what's most amazing to me is that though both of these youngsters are easily world-class in both these events, they're world-class in events that are usually only seriously done by veteran cubers. I'm especially astounded by the fact that a 10 year old 's best event is FMC, which is probably the least appealing event to young children (the average age of a world-class FMC solver is at least 25).
this is awesome Beth! thanks for represnting us cubers :))

Beth is crazy good at mega, and Luis at fmc! Great to see so many young cubers dominating
Good job Beth! Soon you can represent us cubers and our country in cubing competitions and if you break the record, it will be a historic moment for us!
Yay great job, Beth!
Let’s go Beth!!
hi Ram, thank you!!!
I love these kind of videos
Hey! I cube as well, and I can say that she is incredibly talented! Props to her!
Ye same
I cube but solving that thing in 32 seconds? That’s impressive .
these cubers are amazing!
yeah Beth lee is not just talented, she is the 58th in the world
as a cuber, quite entertaining report!
moe should make cubing a cca

When I did PSLE, my time in cubing really slow down significantly, im currently almost sub 10 tho… we cumbersome practise a lot, you see the best, yiheng wang…
Yesssss
wow. Megaminx is my favorite event, but I’m still barely sub 1! Impressive!
I'm averaging around 1:10. I have a comp this weekend and I'm hoping to make finals but it looks like I'll need a sub-1 average for that. I know full 4LLL, just trying to work on my look-ahead during F2L and S2L
woah you know full 4look? I’ve been drilling 3x3 OLL so I haven’t had that much time to drill 4look, so my main trick to megaminx is to turn rlly fast and inaccurately cuz the new Dayan can handle that due to auto aligning. Also, which comp? I’m going to Fullerton and Riverside!
Watching them cube looks like the precise calculated movements of a humanoid robot. 🤖
I'm only one year younger and I can't even get close to a minute. Props to her.
yay!
This is so funny they are the funniest person ever They are just the funniest sister KZhead
I solve megaminx, and I only average around 1 minute. Nowhere near Beth, but my goal is to average as fast as her!
I average around 1:10. Hoping to make Mega finals at a comp next weekend but I'll likely need a sub-1 average. I know full 4LLL, just trying to work on my look-ahead to whittle down my S2L times now.

It looks hard, but megaminx is easy to solve. She practices a ton. Good documentary nonetheless 😃
Easy? Is it easier than 3x3??
@@alexha2884 no
@@alexha2884 3x3 is easy compared to other puzzles
YESS BETHHHH
as a 12 year old i cant believe that she did that bc i mean like it took me over a day to figure it out
"12 sided rubik's cube" had me dying
at least they know its 12 sided lol, all my friends thought over 30 for some reason :/
Even more impressive, is a 9 year old who holds the world record for fastest average on a 3x3 over 5 solves. But either way, this is impressive
As a cuber I can confirm she is a legend
mega is like a 3x3 but you have to remember twice as many colors. it's so hard to find pieces to pair
I've been trying to find the weird pink-normal green edge piece since 1973.
as someone who has a poor memory, this type of solving/puzzle is very painstaking to me. same said when dealing history subject
trust me, i own one, and all you have to do is learn the original rubik's cube
i want cubing clasees
Megaminx is for the F2L enjoyer
Why no documentary on Tristan, our Megaminx world champion.

11:52 never let em know ur next move
Bruh I’m 19 years old and struggling to break 1 minute on megaminx. This is hella impressive.
3:20 I will say this is a mostly well-put-together video, but saying there are 17 types of cubing competitions is simply not accurate. There are 17 events, and therefore 131072 types of competitions, not taking into account venues and competition sizes.
Bro on cube my best is onoly 23 seconds.. I cannot imagine doing a megaminx in 32. it would take me at least 3 minutes.
meanwhile i can barely solve a square-1 lol

Cool documentary but like there are 6 years olds who can do this now
Even for Megaminx and Fewest Moves Count?
Its crazy how beth is like my age but i am like around averageing 30 seconds slover than her!

the internet really makes cubing more impressive then it actually is 😂
im not even impressed anymore, at this point its more impressive if a 20 yr old does the same thing
Lol
man cubing is being dominated by children now. a new era is beginning
Waitttt BETH???lol
It is an iNtErEStInG video
ask her if she's thinking , at all ... i don't think so ... she's just looking at the patterns and letting her brain do the work in zero mode , she's just a guitarist playing a song , in the zone
