  • Great video! I work at Dolby Labs and I just wanna add an explanation. Conventional surround sound formats like 5.1, 7.1 etc differ from atmos from the fact that, atmos mixes are object based and not channel based. Atmos supports upto 128 objects at any given time instant. Each sound object is accompanied by a metadata which tells the decoder about the location of the object in 3d space. The channels do not contain speaker information. The whole idea of atmos is to decouple the mixes from the speaker setup. Mixing engineers can use any setup (even headphones) to mix in atmos that can then be deployed to any setup (10.2, 7.1.4, etc). Devices that have the atmos label have the decoder to decode atmos mixes and convert them to the specific speaker config (object -> channels). Phones use something called binauralization in their decoding stage to bring atmos to headphones.

Are the speakers selling for 3000 (zebronics, chinese company) and 7000 (philips/panasonic etc) are just regular speaker that emits same audio irrespective of the details?

  • When I saw this video I was reminded of the late sound engineer Mr. H. Sridhar comes to mind. I would say he is the only one capable of this 5.1 channel surround sound. You can experience the 360 degree sound you mentioned by watching the movies he worked on. It is unfortunate for our cinema that he is not there. Dolby Atmos has arrived today. But it is regrettable that there is no one who can do sound design as clearly as H. Sridhar.

    @sridar@sridar Жыл бұрын
    • It is your opinion. If you want to understand 5.1 or dolby clearly you should watch lot of Tamil movies and lot of Hollywood movies. What you should not do you can learn from tamil movies including H. sridar mixing and what you should do you can learn from Hollywood movies. Sridar would have died because of the way he mixed only (noise pollution)

  • Need next video about HDR..HDR 10+ AND DOLBY VISION...coz samaung tv only used hdr 10+ not DOLBY vision...both of them uses dynamic meta data... explain difference in them

    @Rahul-px3jh@Rahul-px3jh Жыл бұрын
    • Dolby Vision is developed by Dolby Labs. Whoever uses it, should pay some amount to Dolby for the certification. It has dynamic metadata of HDR. HDR10+ is a similar technology developed by Samsung. Ithuvum dynamic metadata than. So, ethukku dolby kaaranukku kaasu kudukkanumnu itha mattum vachikittanga. Aana ippo ulla entha budget tv layu HDR10+ or DV ku yetha brightness range irukkuratha theriyala. Certification irukkura TV la mattum intha format ah play panna mudiyum. Illenna play kooda panna mudiyathu.

    • @@vuvaise yes....but thats y why they paying Dolby vision when there is free HDR 10+ certification....i also heard DV has 12 bit support...

    • @@Rahul-px3jh HDR10+ might have 10-bit color compared to Dolby Vision's 12-bit, But most TVs in the market are 8bit. Some providing 8bit+FRC panels like Samsung. Only premium TVs offering the 10bit panels. Also we shouldn't forget DV supports brightness upto 10,000 nits. Again most TVs offering 300nits to 500nits. So, it's not a big deal, I guess. Even our TV can decode DV doesn't mean it can display all of it. On the other hand HDR10+ is royalty free and easy to produce coz they don't have to correct the colours for each scenes like in DV. The producers can take HDR10 content and bring it up to par without any extra labor. So, the contents will be more in HDR10+ than DV. Many TVs has the DV licence but, might used cost cutting in different ways.

    • @@vuvaise yes. Although Dolby vision offers 10,000 nits support...but many tv having DV has max 1500 nits, but the Samsung neo series which has hdr 10+ reching upto 2000 nits, and their HDR 32x seems to reach even more...HDR10+ IS SO underrated

      @Rahul-px3jh@Rahul-px3jh Жыл бұрын
    • @@Rahul-px3jh Yes HDR10+ is not highly advertised as DV. So not all know about this. They might think HDR10 and HDR10+ are one and the same. Samsung panels are good. But, I don't think they are reaching 2000 nits😂
