Wow. What a title race this is! Ben Foster is joined by Mark Goldbridge and Dave Watson to break down all the action from an action-packed thriller between Liverpool and Man City at Anfield on Sunday. Should Liverpool have had a last-minute penalty? Why didn’t VAR intervene?! The lads get straight into it all and what it means for the title race…
Arsenal were the real winners of the weekend as they left it late to beat Brentford 2-1 and move to the top of the table! Kai Havertz headed in the winner for Mikel Arteta’s side but should he have been sent off for a dive earlier in the game? And the lads also break down that Aaron Ramsdale mistake before debating where he should go if he leaves Arsenal this summer!

VAR continued to look at the incident until they found something and asked the referee to go look at it. It is very atrocious for these stooges to not ask the ref to go to the monitor.

Since VAR came about a few years ago, he’s just dropped off massively. VAR is just a big, sloppy mess anyways. They can no longer seem to work together as one refereeing unit, like they could when they were only 4. I’m not saying it has to go, but changes MUST come…

  • In answer to Mark's question about, what do you do after all the poor decisions. As a Liverpool fan, you look at the game and realize that Liverpool are the only team that can consistently upset the "best team in Europe", who continue to compete without national sponsors. You can stick your purchased titles, we are, and continue to be a proper football club.

    @generalsharkey@generalsharkey2 ай бұрын
    • A rather smug and deluded view. ‘National sponsors’ so that’s the Liverpool narrative is it? Let’s face it Liverpool are hardly poor are they? And this fine bastion for everything that’s good and proper we’re quite happy to bugger of to a European Super League initially. Plus FFP works quite nicely in Liverpools favour and maintains the status quo for the cabal at the top of the PL that other clubs aren’t allowed to spend money in order to break into. Have you heard of Schadenfreude? As a Forest supporter I’m glad to see hypocrisy is alive and well amongst some Liverpool supporters. I doubt very much that you would be critical of Paul Tierney last week. Every fan has a right to support their club, but to suggest that Liverpool is a ‘proper’ club and somehow Man City is not promulgates the myth that Liverpool are somehow different. It’s all very amusing.

  • All the points people use to argue why it shouldnt be a penalty are just complete bollocks. People say Doku got the ball, he did not, Mac got there first. Even if he did, reckless endangerment is a foul no matter if you get the ball or not. They say the followthrough or contact was unintentional, it is still reckless endangerment, and if that somehow is an argument then why did Curtis Jones get a red card when his contact was unintentional too? When you slow it down you can see the ball hits the upper right of his body the ball changes trajectory then Doku goes in with his kick studs up hits the ball whilst following through with his kick into Alexis's midrift. You would need to slow the youtube match video down to 0.2 speed to see it but clearly visible when it happens.

    • All of their comments against are actually false. Not one of their arguments for it not being a penalty have any weight because penalties and cards have been given for less, and been less clear. Macallister was not only there first, but it doesn't matter if he was there first or not. Still a high boot with clear studs out. Intention doesn't matter, softness or not doesn't matter. Time doesn't matter as several times this season teams have gotten penalties or calls back 2 minutes after the fact. United even had one where both teams were already in the locker room. It's all just bullocks and corruption. Michael Oliver used to be one of the best but he and his team are bought out. I don't think he should be a ref in the league anymore, but especially during city games due to conflict of interest.

And if you do think the first one was a yellow then you must also think that you can’t put hands on players at all meaning Trossard should have had a penalty. This would have put Arsenal 2-1 up and meant Havertz wouldn’t have had to dive to try to cheat a penalty

City looked terrified at times, they didn't look like they could last another five minutes at the end, they'd been run so ragged. If I was one of the teams both have to face in the run-in, I'd be more scared of Liverpool, tbh. Seeing how Liverpool negated De Bruyne so effectively, I'd have half a hope of making them struggle, especially now they've got Ortega for however many games. I think Liverpool have the easier run-in of the top three, but this is the Premier League, and stranger things have happened, I can't see Spurs making any great leaps but it'd be nice to see them in the CL again at least.

  • Liverpool with one first choice player in their back 5, no Salah for an hour, few options in midfield while City were full strength. That for me is the better way to look at the game. We can all say it should have been a penalty etc, but I'd rather look at the positives. When do you see KDB subbed as he is having no effect on a game? How often do City have less possession? When have you seen Rhodri so ineffective? When do you see Pep flustered? As a Liverpool fan to me that is what we should be looking at. Refs will continue to make mistakes, VAR is inept and needs rethought. It felt like a defeat in the end but once you watch it again and look for the positives then it could be the point that wins the title for Liverpool. Don't fall for YT pundits looking for clicks and for people to fall out with each other in the comments. Best of luck to all supporters of all clubs in the last 10 games, I hope you are as proud of your players as I am of ours.

  • Such a weird argument against VAR from Foster. Of course we would remember. I still remember Arsenal vs Liverpool quarterfinal in 2008. "VAR is bad because referee didn't use VAR". Like, what? If anything that episode is proof VAR is needed and should be used more.

    @lost1head@lost1head2 ай бұрын
    • A bad decision made back when officials didn't have the benefit of a 2nd look can be forgiven even if not forgotten. To have it and not be called to use it when a pen call was so obvious introduces an inconsistency that proves why it is better not to have it at all. The prob that will always exist with VAR is that it is making so many decisions on grey areas in the game, unlike hawkeye in the tennis or even goal line tech where it can't be argued that the decision is correct or not. Its black or white every time! The benefit of no VAR is no time lost. The amount of decisions made that remain controversial despite VAR and the time lost to come up with a controversial decision is frustrating for fans and players alike!

But, tbf, we've also seen some horrendous tackles not given as reds (Havertz's lunging slide at Burn, Nketiah's studs-up slide at whatever keeper it was, Udogie's two-footer).
